All I can say is THE HELL WITH DISNEYLAND! Head your lil booty on down to 7250 Melrose Avenue to El Guapo Mexican Cantina! Not only is it the only bar in Hollywood, famous celebs are there all day long! With David Spade and Nicole Richie walking about, and that manager actor who was on numerous tv shows, I don't know how the paparazzi doesn't just sit outside by that badass fountain that I had a pool party in last summer- make sure the lifeguard is on duty! They have this terrific little firecracker of a bartender named Alison and she is like hot chocoloate by a the fireplace on a stormy night. I also love their singing bartender Jackie- he is like playing scrabble with your family and have jiffy pop on Christmas Eve! What great food and drinky drinkies. My only suggestion is making a trapped door for Dell to fall through so I don't have to listen to his piercing cackle...Two thumbs up!!!!! Pros: Allison, Jackie Cons: Dell more

I recently stumbled upon El Gaupo trying to find a place to watch the final four( Go Kansas!!!!). I was excited to see what a huge kansas following goes there. It was a busy night but the service was still really good, our food and drinks came out quickly, and the crowd was awesome. The two bartenders were great and made sure we always had what we needed. I will definetly be back :) Pros: service drinks crowd more

This has my spot for over 4 years now. By far, the BEST Sportsbar in Hollywood. Where else are you going to find 40 TV's! I have turned so many people on to EL GUAPO, TRUST ME! Come check it out, knock down some tacos and a Cheese Steak, and come play some PONG. They have EVERY SINGLE game you want AND LA's OFFICIAL HOME for UFC! Pros: LADIES! Cons: NOt open til 2am during the week! more

Ok.. I've lived here over 6 years now from the eastcoast. I love nice steakhouses, sushi joints, and sometimes the Hollywood scene, but really miss the old eastcoast comfortable places I can meet real/good friends for conversation and old laughs!!!! Finally!!!! A friend told me about El Guapo. I'm in the advertising business, and a art director told me to go to the coolest, most casual place in LA. I trust her, so I went. OMG! We got there before sundown. It wasn't very busy, but we sat on the deck and talked for hours! Drinks were great and the bartender was so sweet! We actually called more of our friends to come down. It ended up being the most fun I've had out here since the MTV Awards 2003!! The manager.. don't remember his name.. (bald, i think.. very cute) acutally bought us a round and made us feel like family! Go! We are regulars now! Pros: Drink prices, ambience Cons: Always Casual!! more

best patio margarita bar, a must for all sporting events 2/20/2008

funinla Provided by Partner
this place is one of a kind - it has the best & biggest outdoor patio i've ever seen in LA - margaritas are fantastic - if you're from back east you'll love this place - it has beer pong & a ton of hi def tv's - lots of different rooms so you go where is best for you i guess. smokers will love this place. the food is pretty good, the service seems ok too. last week they even tarp off the patio when it rains and they have toasty heat lamps so i was pretty comfortable even in the bad weather. summers must rock here. try the shrimp fiesta or the continental wrap. Pros: patio, valet, tv's Cons: not really anything more

A disappointment 9/29/2007

Despite the glowing reviews this place has gotten, I've been stunned at truly how bad the service was. Generally I don't mind slow service when a place is slammed, but to be flat out ignored was a bit too much. The food itself wasn't bad, nor were the other patrons of the bar. The setup was decent enough. However, the waitresses ranged from lazy (didn't see mine for over half an hour, or was ignored when she walked to the bigger table) to flat out hostile (got sneered at for asking another waitress to find ours.) Since these sort of things don't exist in a vacuum, I feel that the management is probably dictating this. If you are reading this, I recommend reassessing how your waitresses are treating customers. There are places that have better looking women that, gasp, actually treat the customer well. You're behind the curve here. more

Great Time! 8/10/2007

I had my girlfriends birthday day there last night (Friday, Aug 10th). Our group was about 15 at first and kept growing to probably close to 40. Our server was this very sweet girl named Naomi who was badass, she kept checking to make sure everyone was set- and gave my girlfriend a birthday shot too. (Even when the party kept growing she got those people too). I recommend the Green Iguana drink (or something like that) it was rather tasty -but all the drinks are good. Its a good place to party and we even met more people in the beer pong bar. Awesome time! Pros: Fun environment Cons: Cheaper pitchers more

Pros: beer pong, a lot of tvs, cute waitresses more

i am obsessed. last friday was one of the best nights of my life! i actually arrived @ guapo by myself around 10pm. i was bummed that my friends were late until i bumped into a crowd of people that seemed to be more entertaining than the people i know! everyone was buying eachother drinks, dancing, playing beer pong and flip cup, i almost forgot i rolled in solo. when my crew finally arrived, it seemed like everyone had combined forces. no attitudes, just plain ol fashioned FUN. just when we thought it couldn't get any better, the owner stopped by our table with a round of 20 patron shots. the girls and i devoured the best buffalo wings on the planet around 11:45pm, and after that, well, it's all history. i highly reccommend this restaurant/bar to anyone looking for food, drinks and most importantly, NO FUSS NIGHTLIFE. see u there! Pros: atmosphere. service. parking Cons: monday - thursday closes @ 12am. friday & saturday closes @ 2am! more

The new place to be..... 8/5/2007

Now that football is right around the corner I decided to pregame at the only bar in hollywood that provides me with every game available. When I went inside I was blown away. They had completely remodeled the place and add a ton of more Tvs. With the bar being pushed back along the wall you can see every tv from where ever you sit. Normally I come to El Guapo strictly for the games, but with this new bar set-up and rock n roll feel I'm going to start heading to El Guapo all the time. And they have beer pong all the time!!! Pros: Beer pong 7 days a week more

Drunken servers, terrible management, an absolute joke of a restaurant!! 7/15/2007

underage_drunk Provided by Partner
Let me preface this review by stating that I have been to El Guapo a few times. Each time my experience has been an abomination. Why would I keep coming back you ask? It's because I work in the area and a group of my friends and I like to go there for drinks after work. After my latest attempt to get some kind of service in vain, I realized I will never return. In the past I was able to look beyond the staff being wasted and the service being at best, mediocre. My last visit, however, was absolutely intolerable. Our server was miserable, immature, rude, and visibly underage and smashed. How do I know? I asked her if she was old enough to take the free shot she gave our table, she said "no" and took it anyways. Perhaps even more disturbing than the fact that our waitress was so drunk, was that her skirt was so short and revealed so much butt cleavage that I couldn't even enjoy my food. But wait, there's more. She also charged another tables check to my credit card. I informed her of the mistake and she rolled her eyes and walked away. I tried tracking her down a few times to see if she had fixed it so we could leave. Every time I found her she was up at the hostess stand playing with a cell phone, as she had been most of the night. I finally gave up on trying to get my server to fix it. I asked a passing buss boy where the manager was. He then pointed to a drunken group of people playing beer pong and said that he was the one that just missed the shot, and therefore chugging his beer, later to be seen taking a shot at the bar. Just as we were giving up on the whole place, another manager named Marc I believe, sorted out our credit card fiasco, unfortunately it was a little to late to redeem my experience. I feel it absolutely necessary to post this review. I have read numerous outstanding reviews for this place, yet never had a good experience here. For all I know, it could be their own employees writing these reviews. Pros: Drunken Waitresses Cons: Drunken Waitresses more

Applebees-style "Mexican" food 7/3/2007

While the margaritas were passable, the "Mexican" fare at El Guapo was bland and had all the authenticity of any corporate chain. There are probably 135 better Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. more

THE VEGAS OF HOLLYWOOD 6/20/2007

Two bars. A huge outdoor patio equipped with TV's. A plethora of plasmas. A bevy of hot chicks working. Above average bar food. Every sporting event under the sun including all the UFC games. What more could you want from your local sports bar? Beer pong tables? Oh wait, they have that too. I've been going to El Guapo for years and it seems to get better and better. I know that in the past the reputation for the service has been horrible--but I have to say the staff they currently have is amazing, friendly and efficient. Clearly they are stepping it up and finding their rhythm. I recently took my friend visiting from the East Coast and he commented that he had never been in a bar in L.A. where everyone sitting at it knew the name of the bartender and every waitress working. I've also been often enough to witness the complaints about the food and service. These poor girls will be serving DOLLAR TACOS (a HUGE perk on Tuesdays) and these posers will be complaining that the free chips they got aren't crispy enough and their water tastes bad. It's hilarious. Get the fajitas or the steak quesadillas. You'll never be disappointed. If you want gourmet mexican food and upscale service, this isn't the place for you. If you want a high energy atmosphere with a low-maintenance vibe, this is your spot. This is a locals bar. A place to hang any time of the week. A spot where you can roast your bartender and she will roast you right back. No pretention. No lines. No cover. No fuss. It feels like Vegas inside now with the wall of flat screens. And I can't WAIT for football season. This is going to be THE SPOT. This watering hole is a genuine oasis in a desert of phony clubs and hipster bars. You don't go to El Guapo to be seen. You go to be yourself. Pros: plasmas, friendly fun-loving beauties, valet parking, laid-back environment, location Cons: no pool or darts, can be very loud, too much Timberlake-not enough rock and roll more

I love this place! 6/20/2007

I usually meet my friends here Friday night to kick off a great weekend!!!! We always come for Happy Hour around 6 and usually end up staying the rest of the night. (The waitresses at El Guapo are cuter than the girls at the clubs anyway!) The music is always great, the food rocks, and the drinks get you hammered! All the food looks so good, but I always order the Ceviche Tostada with the huge 42oz. Monster Margarita. I've never been to El Guapo and not gotten a free shot from the waitress. This resturaunt is a favorite of mine and my friends. 5 stars! I highly recommend it! more

HD TV's everywhere, good cheap food, and a great atmosphere 6/18/2007

I came into El Guapo to watch a Dodger's game a couple of days ago. A buddy of mine referred me here and boasted about the cute staff and massive array of T.V.'s. He was right! The whole staff is very friendly and personable. It's not the type of place where as soon as you've finished your meal your server is trying to push out the door. They actually seem to expect you to stay and watch the game in it's entirety. Oh, and if you make it in between 4-7pm on weekdays you can get half off of any of the appetizers. I went for the boneless buffalo wings. They were delicious and about $3.50 since I came in around 6pm. You seriously can not beat that! This place is the only one I know of where you can smoke on their patio and still not miss a second of the game since there are literally TV's right in front of you facing the patio! I will definitely be back to El Guapo! Pros: attractive staff, tv's everywhere, good food, awesome margaritas Cons: happy hour is only on weekdays more

Great food at very affordable prices and not to mention that the waitresses are gorgeous! Also, many great specials like $1 Tacos on Tuesdays (highly recommend the fish tacos) and 50% off all food on Sundays from 5-close. It's a great place to go with friends before a club or maybe after, or just to hang out for a bite or perhaps something to drink. There's amazing melrose seating and also a huge patio with heated lamps. The waitresses frequently pass out fun shots, so that's great! And overall the management is very accomodating and my experiences here are always positive and enjoyable. Pros: Plasma screens and great music Cons: $1 tacos are only on tuesdays! (because they're so awesome) more

$1 Taco Tuesdays, TVs 6/12/2007

We were looking for a different place to watch the game and walked by this place on Melrose. Good fun fellow sport loving crowd and hot wait staff. It's kind of like a "H*oters", but an actual place you can hang out and watch the game. I guess on Tuesdays that have dollar tacos. And they were actually good. Servers and bar staff look like they actually enjoy working there and were fun to talk to. I'll be back for the UFC Fights. Pros: TV and HD TVs everywhere, Patio, $1 Tacos on Tuesday Cons: Parking more
