Two bars. A huge outdoor patio equipped with TV's. A plethora of plasmas. A bevy of hot chicks working. Above average bar food. Every sporting event under the sun including all the UFC games. What more could you want from your local sports bar? Beer pong tables? Oh wait, they have that too.
I've been going to El Guapo for years and it seems to get better and better. I know that in the past the reputation for the service has been horrible--but I have to say the staff they currently have is amazing, friendly and efficient. Clearly they are stepping it up and finding their rhythm. I recently took my friend visiting from the East Coast and he commented that he had never been in a bar in L.A. where everyone sitting at it knew the name of the bartender and every waitress working.
I've also been often enough to witness the complaints about the food and service. These poor girls will be serving DOLLAR TACOS (a HUGE perk on Tuesdays) and these posers will be complaining that the free chips they got aren't crispy enough and their water tastes bad. It's hilarious. Get the fajitas or the steak quesadillas. You'll never be disappointed.
If you want gourmet mexican food and upscale service, this isn't the place for you. If you want a high energy atmosphere with a low-maintenance vibe, this is your spot. This is a locals bar. A place to hang any time of the week. A spot where you can roast your bartender and she will roast you right back. No pretention. No lines. No cover. No fuss.
It feels like Vegas inside now with the wall of flat screens. And I can't WAIT for football season. This is going to be THE SPOT. This watering hole is a genuine oasis in a desert of phony clubs and hipster bars. You don't go to El Guapo to be seen. You go to be yourself.
Pros: plasmas, friendly fun-loving beauties, valet parking, laid-back environment, location
Cons: no pool or darts, can be very loud, too much Timberlake-not enough rock and roll
