I live in Northampton, Pa. I recently had some plumbing issues and needed a plumber.
I called Curtis despite a few negative reviews I read. In two of the negative reviews I read, the same service tech was called by name. I will not repeat his name, but he showed up at my house. My 4 inch main sewer line was clogged. In my basement there was a sink then the 4 inch pipe leaving the house. Six feet from the house was a clean out port. There was no water flowing to the clean out port from the house. Water was backing up in to the sink. So we both agreed the clog was in between the house and the cleanout port six feet away, outside. So the tech wanted to auger from the cleanout port, to the street. He then informed me that it would cost $75 for the service call and $425 to snake from the cleanout port to the street. Wait a sec....Rewind....We both agreed the clog was not there. So lets get this straight, it was going to cost $500 to snake where there was no clog. After that failed, there would be additional cost to fix the real problem. This gave me a moment of pause. (Did I hear that correctly)
I threw him out.
I was born at night, but not last night.
I called a local contractor. (D Williams Plumbing & Heating in Northampton) He said his standard rate for snaking a 4 inch sewer line is $88.
$500.........$88........hmmmm. Ok, now I,m not shopping for a heart operation or a lasik doctor. I'm augering out a clogged sewer pipe. What could Curtis be doing so much better to justify their price. Perhaps they are going to insert a tiny magical unicorn into my pipe to unclog it. Now that would be worth $500.
So if you want a unicorn, call Curtis Total Service. If you just want your sewer pipe unclogged, call some one else and pay much less.
Pros: the tech was very nice.
Cons: Way over priced for work not needed.
