Cajun Seafood Corner

We tried this place for dinner early on Saturday evening - the four of us were the only patron except a few people at the bar that early. The service was quick as to be expected under the circumstances but not especially friendly given the neighborhood aspect of the place. The appetizer, the catfish fry and the shrimp were good. The gumbo was watery and lacking dept of flavor. The desert was different and enjoyable. We eat out often, love cajun and would normally have made this place a regular stop for fish if not for the cajun dishes. However the fact that an 18% gratuity was added to the bill and was not ponted out so we added our customary 20% was a huge disappointment. Of course we should have noticed but we were focused on our friends and that conversation so we missed it. Another case of buyer beware. We have a large network of friends who meet regularly for dinner and we'll be sure to eliminate Canjun Seafood Corner from the list of potential restaraunts for all our friends. Hope it was worth it. The food is good in the way of flavor but it's not authentic cajun. The food was made for a diverse palette not for someone who is looking for hardcore cajun - you can't really find that outside of Louisiana or east Texas at best. Haven eaten here more than once, I know the food is good flavor and can appeal to a lot of people. My only complaint is that to get a good samples of fried and sauces, it can get pricey. If you're looking for authentic, you may not find it here - but what you will find is a cozy atmosphere with good food and a good time. East meets southwest Louisiana and it was a trainwreck!!! I read another review on this website that gave this restaurant a glowing recommendation. Nothing could be further off than that. I came in because I'm from southwest Louisiana and love good spicy crawfish. What I got was a BIG disappointment. I ordered two pounds of this and when it came out I noticed that instead of being big (like the other review said) they were about the size of my pinky. Then the second disappointment: I ordered them EXTRA SPICY and they tasted like they had been boiled in day old bathwater. Oh and the ownership is Vietnamese (NOT that I have a problem with Vietnamese...I just don't expect them to know how to cook Cajun and my concerns were validated by the poor excuse for Cajun food that they served!). I love Thai food and I love Vietnamese food...the fact remains that I came to eat Cajun and got slop instead. I complained that the crawfish weren't spicy at all and the waiter just shrugged his shoulders. $45.00 later my wife and I left and went to another restaurant to eat because the food we ate there wasn't enough to make up for an appetizer at a REAL restaurant. I was totally put off by this restaurant and will NOT fall for fake posts by obvious POSERS who know nothing about the restaurant or the food they serve. Don't make the mistake I made. Yesterday my girlfriend from Houston and I were amazed with how closely they resembled the crawfish from home. We've tried multiple places, Pier de Orleans, Pappdeaux, etc. and none of them compared to these buggers! They were much larger than the other restaurants and cooked to your liking. They asked how spicy you would like them and also have a variety of other spices to chose from e.g. lemon peper, garlic butter. We obviously did the traditional but extra spicy. My stomach hasn't been this happy for a long time and you can't beat the happy hour with $1.25 beers to go with it! more
