Best

Love bluehour! I think it is the prettiest and classiest restaurant. I like that I can sit in the restaurant and have a special meal or hit up the cheap happy hour or eat in the b...

Worst

Darn. How Dissappointing. The food is unfortunately highly inconsistant, as if the cooks one night differ significantly in skill or commitment from the next. On top of this, it is...

fabulous service, fabulous food. 1/13/2006

Definitely one of the top 3 restaurants I have ever been to. The service was probably the best service I had ever had, very helpful but not to overbearing. The scallop appetizer was beyond amazing. You must try these if you ever go! Pros: service, food, wine more

Yummy! 12/21/2005

We arrived early so we had a few drinks first...the cocktail was perfect. Oh, and free valet parking...I didn't believe it. The goose liver for an appetizer was probably the best thing I've ever eaten, sorry I don't know how to spell it but it is goose liver. The chicken and tuna were awesome. The vanilla panna cotta was wonderful. Overall I loved just about everything at Bluehour. I've never had three consecutive dishes so damn good. It is pretty expensive but it's well worth it for a special occasion. Pros: Goose Liver, Free Valet, Atmosphere more

Blue Hour or snob hour? 12/12/2005

Blue Hour is a great place to go if you want to be surrounded by a bunch of VIP snobbs and want-to-be's. The food is over-rated and priced, the wine list is overly obscure and the service is not up to par at all for those kinds of prices. Also, the staff seems to be forever in flux and changing. This is a sure sign that the management at Blue Hour does not value their staff or doesn't know how to hire an experienced capable server. Get it straight, Blue Hour. Your establishment is phony and waaaay over-rated. City Searcher's, don't bother with this bad egg. more

House of the snobs. 12/11/2005

If you feel like paying to be surrounded by people that think the world revolves around them be my guest. I dont know how so many people think that they are cool because they have the money to buy a fifty dollar plate thats worth five. Id rather go somewhere where people dont judge you by the size of your wallet. This isnt L.A. and you arent fooling anyone but yourselves. more

wonderful food in a beautiful elegant space 12/3/2005

I've been enjoying Bluehour for years now and it just keeps getting better, even though I thought it perfect before. Constantly striving for perfection leads to a wonderful innovative menu and seamless service. Whether I'm dining in the elegance of the dining room or sharing a pizza and ""best burger ever"" with my 9 year old son in the cafe, we always feel well taken care, comfortable and with ""happy buds"", (taste that is . . .) I love knowing that the the chefs of Bluehour use local sustainable produce and meat as well as going the distance to get fresh interesting foods, including this awesome cheese thing they have going. This adorable guy comes around with this cheese cart and well, the drooling begins, (over the cheeses I mean). Tis' true, there are many good restaurants in this ""town"" now, but the experience of Bluehour is unlike any other. more

Nov 4, 2006 12/3/2005

I will NEVER go again. My friends and I were out on the town for dinner and drinks and were mistreated by a highly arrogant and condescending floor manager over corked champagne. An intelligent fellow would simply return the wine to the distributor for a credit.\r \r This year's holiday office party will not be held at Bluehour and neither will any of our other professional gatherings. Let the owners beware: even one snooty staff member is like cancer to a business. Pros: decor/scene, service, proximity Cons: wine list, limited menu, food more

So-so food in a beautiful space 12/1/2005

I visited Bluehour for the first time. My friend and I went for happy hour and sat in the bar. First impression was that the space itself was very well done: trendy was the first word that sprang to mind. However, the bar stools and the tiny bar tables were not very comfortable. Our table was positioned directly over a vent blowing cold air! The service was a bit slow. The speciality drink we ordered--Spice Sidecars--was one of the best bar creations I have ever had. We ordered five happy hour apps (for a food total of $15). The food we had was ordinary to bad. The bruschetta was a mess of either overwhelming or underwhelming toppings. The pizza was at best average. The homemade mozzarella lacked flavor. Beautiful space, great drinks, mediocre service, food so-so. Go for happy hour and save your money to spend on great food elsewhere! Pros: drinks, atmosphere, scene Cons: food, price more

Great food 11/18/2005

We had brunch there last weekend-took parents from out of town. I had always wanted to try it and am glad I did! The place was packed but we got a table right away and the service was very attentive. I got the steak and eggs and a bloody mary. The saucebox bloody mary was awesome! Just the right spice. My mom had oatmeal -incredible. i have seriously been thinking about it all week. It was sweet and buttery goodness. The banana pancakes (I think they were a special?) were equally unforgetable. If you are looking for a place to see and be seen and also eat wonderful food and get great service, you will not be disappointed by Bluehour. Great for a date or special occasion, or for just a regular day when you know you want to be treated well and you want to eat great food. Pros: service, food, presentation of food more

Tough call, trendy, food is average 11/15/2005

Definitely place to be seen. Its more about the scene, then food. From a guys aspect, if you want to impress, this is the place to impress. Scene, drinks, atmosphere. Now for food, its so so. Presentation was excellent Had Fois Gras to start. Good. Not many places serve this. Venison and Veal Chop. Venison is very lean anyways, but nothing special. You would have expected a little more. The Veal chop did not impress. There was no taste as hards as that is to say. Desert was average. Go for the scene and to try out. Usually at those prices, you usually expect better food. Pros: scene, trendy, had good service Cons: average food, pricey for quality more

Disappointing 11/8/2005

My husband and I had not been out in 4 months and were looking for a romantic place to have a nice dinner. Blue Hour was highly recommended to us by friends. Unfortunately for $157 for 2 of us, our overall experience was average at best. The atmosphere was great and the very best Cosmopolitan I have ever had. So we were off to a great start until the food came. The salad was ok, my tuna was ok. My husband liked his steak, but had better. The waitress recommended the chocalte ganache cake for dessert. It was terrible. So much so, that we asked the waitress if she had brought us the right dessert because what we were eating was not what she had described. She apologized and took it off our bill. I would go back for the drinks, service, and atmosphere, but not the food. more

Happy Hour, I'll Be Back 11/6/2005

So there's this chick, right. We're in love, and we haven't seen each other in years. We go to a great concert, Toronto's Deadly Snakes at the Towne Lounge. We end up, ahem, going back to my place. In the morning, we go to Bluehour. 4:30 in the afternoon. We order everything on the menu. Superb. Romantic. Dramatic. Things arrived one after another. First, fondue. Then sliced Italian meats with fresh (still wet) mozzarella, and totally out-of-control, freakishly good bruschetta. Then an amazing Caesar salad, made out of whole pieces of lettuce that had to be, romantically, cut. Then an entire pizza. For all of this, with coffee and great, attentive, alert service (at 5 in the afternoon!), I paid thirty bucks. I left a ten-dollar tip. If you've got a friend, and you've been up all night, this is the place to make a touchdown. Pros: Food, Happy Hour, Service more

Perfect Sunday 10/7/2005

They even provide the Sunday New York Times. and even though I stick with the classics, like the Benedict, the pancakes and the pastries I've tried are great. I'll be back to try lunch and dinner. Nice servers too. Pros: spick bloody mary more

You've Got to be Kidding! $62 for 1 person? 10/2/2005

Ok - how incredibly disappointing. Went to Bluehour with friends, went for the food not the scene and let me tell you the scene is the only reason to go. I had an average martini, a small green salad, a scallop APPETIZER, another martini and an after dinner drink for $62!!!!! I left hungery, went home and made popcorn. The scene is trendy, snotty, filled with tight jeans, Coach handbags and offers little else. For $62 I expected to be dazzled as did my friends - none of us were. The creme brulee was runny, the warm pear tart was too tart -- I'd say the new pastry chef should go back to school. Anyway, skip this ""scene"" unless you grab a burger! Pros: the "in" crowd Cons: small portions, small menu more

Super Blue 9/29/2005

We haven't dined at Blue Hour often, only three times in the past year, but when we have the food has ranged from extremely good to flatout exciting. We've had very happy Happy Hours (with our pooches on the porch) several times, but what seems overlooked in most reviews of the restaurant is the excellent and imaginative Brunch menu... that we've done a lot, including once with a party of eight, and it's a fantastic opportunity to sample the work of a clever and thoughtful kitchen crew at a very affordable price... the Blood Orange Miimosas are seriously special. We have, unfortunately, also experienced the phenomenon of waiters who seemed more interested in each other than their guests, but never to the point of outright rudeness. Finally, I strongly suggest a visit to their website, which gives you a real sense of the place and the prices. Pros: Food, ambience, adult beverages Cons: pricey, service sometimes more

Great after-work place! 9/18/2005

My co-worker and I are at the Bluehour quite often after work. Great drinks and good food. more

Cafe service, where's the love 6/27/2005

Bluehour is fantastic, I've been a longtime customer. I've always enjoyed hanging out in the cafe with friends, but lately I have had terrible experiences with the service, especially while sitting outside. I've waited 20 minutes for a drink, 10 minutes just to be greeted! All the while the servers dressed in white chat with eachother...... Great drinks, great people, but poor service in the cafe. WHAT HAPPENED BLUEHOUR? Pros: food, drinks, atmosphere Cons: poor service in the c more

Positive and Negative 6/21/2005

Never had a negative experience until today, when I ordered a proscuitto sandwich for lunch that definitly was not proscuitto. It was plain, seemingly overripe ham that made me feel sick and I actually got sick shortly thereafter. The staff is generally excellent, but this time they said that it just looked different, and that maybe the proscuitto was hidden in the sandwich. Ever time aside from this has been excellent, but I may never eat their again, as it's a daily thing for me, it's their $12,000 a year loss. Consider this place just be mindful, it's got a funk about it. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Food, inconsitencies, Service more

Great Food 6/9/2005

This place is awesome. They always have great standbys which include the gnocchi, the bacon wrapped scallops, and a to die for foie gras! The menu is always changing and inventive. This place is both romantic and edgy. I've never had the steak, but it always looks great. The drinks are great and made with fresh juices. They even have some non-alcoholic drinks that are delicious to. This place is great for celebrating a special occassion or just going out with friends. I have yet to eat on the bar side, but it seems very neat on that side. Pros: Ambience, Food, Drinks Cons: Price more

Overrated at best 5/23/2005

Just because Portland does not have many top restaurants or trendy if you wish, why should we just give in to just an average performance by a restaurant that aspires to be great. If Bluehour wants to be that league, consistant food and service is a good place to start. Something they have yet to do. Pros: location, sometimes very good Cons: overpriced, staff can be cold, food quality up and d more

Best Bartenders in Portland 5/11/2005

These guys mix cocktails better than anyone in town. Fantastic every single time. And the bacon wrapped scallops may be the best dish I've ever eaten. Period. Can't comment on much else, but it's a cool place and those two things keep me coming back. more
