Best

Love bluehour! I think it is the prettiest and classiest restaurant. I like that I can sit in the restaurant and have a special meal or hit up the cheap happy hour or eat in the b...

Darn. How Dissappointing. The food is unfortunately highly inconsistant, as if the cooks one night differ significantly in skill or commitment from the next. On top of this, it is...

Best place in Portland 10/4/2002

BLUEHOUR is simply the best restaurant and bar in Portland. Of course the usual insecure people will call it pretentious because they don't feel comfortable in nice surroundings, but it isn't. The staff is incredibly nice, the food is wonderful and so are the drinks. Besides all of that the prices are really reasonable considering the quality you get. The bartender Duke has to be the best in Portland or maybe even the entire West Coast. Aesthetically there is absolutely no competition. I find it hard to go anywhere else in Portland after having gone to Bluehour, nothing compares. - Scott Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Gnochi! 9/25/2002

If you're a fan of Gnochi, then look no further. There's a $10 appetizer size or an entree for a bit more. If they could add just a bit more of the truffle sauce it would be the best I've ever had, never mind, it is! The drink menu is extensive, with a stunningly beautiful bartender that makes them. The only disappointment was the chocolate cake and ice cream. Great food at one of the best people watching spots. Pros: gnochi, soups, drinks Cons: chocolate cake more

Not For The Poor 9/3/2002

Pretentious, overrated 8/19/2002

Let me say first that the service at Bluehour was friendly and prompt. And the cocktails were quite good. Unfortunately I've had better meals at the Olive Garden. There was absolutely nothing subtle or interesting about the entrees or the appetizers we ordered. Across the board, the dishes my friends & I ordered were overseasoned and disappointing. We left feeling like we'd spent the evening at a salt lick. Which would be fine if we'd been to TGI Friday's and hadn't spent several hundred dollars. Save your money for a nice evening at Genoa or some other restaurant where the chefs care about (and respect) their ingredients. Pros: service, cocktails Cons: bad music, obnoxious patrons more

Romantic 8/15/2002

Put's Oba's to shame. Love this spot. Romantic, great apps, drinks, and food. The servers and bartenders are very friendly. Not with out problems that arise, but they always make it right. I find their specials are what is best on the menu and would recommend making reservations. Great place, a personal favorite in the Portland area. more

The service is terrible. One day, we had steak which contained 70% fat. When we told the mananger, he didn't seem to care. I won't go back. Cons: expensive, bad service, slow more

Overrated! 8/7/2002

Bluehour is evidence that it's hard to live up to the hype. You WANT to love it: it's chic; It's hip; It's full of pretty people; It's everything that the Portland dining scene really needs.... if you aren't hungry. In short, it's all form and no substance. Before I sound too harsh, I'll say I'd start my evening there. Bluehour knows how to treat a drink, and the appetizers were great! (Pay the tab now, and go grab a show.) The rest of dinner was another story. Again, it LOOKED great both on the menu and on the plate, but what didn't get sent back was uninspired. To their credit, the servers (half-) tried to save the meal, but there wasn't much to work with. Good luck! more

Oh so chic... 8/6/2002

Yum, yum. Fontina truffle gnocchi, duck breast with morels, desserts a plenty. Probably one of the best meals I've had anywhere in town and I go everywhere. Everything was superb. And I sat at a table right next to Ron Wyden (and soon after went on a flight to Chicago where I sat next to Wyden; I think he's following me). Excellent food with interesting combinations of ingredients. Pros: great taste, chic, desserts more

Always a good time... 8/4/2002

I always have a good time at Bluehour the food, service and drinks are great the vibe, music and decor even better. You people that wanna drink a long island should just go somewhere else or better yet have Duke make up something new for you to drink. Pros: food/yum!, drinks/yes please, music/turn it up Cons: little chairs/ouch!, amateur weekend, crowds more

Superb!! 7/4/2002

Bluehour is truly wonderful. My husband & I have had several flawless meals there, and take all our out of town guests as well. Then they are impressed and tell all of their friends exactly where to go for the finest restaurant experience in Portland. Pros: desserts Cons: weird music more

Not Worth It 5/27/2002

The service was too slow. The tables too crowded. The prices are too high. The wait staff lacked knowledge and experience. I tried to order three different drinks and the bartender didn't know what two of them were and was out of an ingredient for the other. So I settled on a long island ice tea with was okay but cost $12, which is way too much. The scallops tasted incredible. But they were $3 a piece. That's $9 a plate. The waitress never spoke to us again until she gave us the check. Absolutely an horrible experience. Pros: Good scallops Cons: Too expensive, Slow service, Crowded more

Portland is Lucky 5/20/2002

Like Zefiro did before it, Bluehour raises the bar for dining in this town. It's sophisticated in every regard. If you don't like it the first time, try it again--it'll grow on you. more
