Love bluehour! I think it is the prettiest and classiest restaurant. I like that I can sit in the restaurant and have a special meal or hit up the cheap happy hour or eat in the b...

Darn. How Dissappointing. The food is unfortunately highly inconsistant, as if the cooks one night differ significantly in skill or commitment from the next. On top of this, it is...

Are we in San Fransisco?? 5/10/2005

Reminded me of being in the city of San Fran.. Loved it! Pros: good food, great service Cons: high prices more

Where's the James Beard nomination? 4/11/2005

Look beyond the music, the crowds, and the laughter. You see a kitchen that puts out some of the best food in the Northwest- the best ingredients presented in simple techniques to bring out their natural flavors. The chefs at Bluehour are clearly passionate about their food. After all, ambience is important but it's always about the food. Pros: Food, Ambience, People Watching more

I'm in Love 4/4/2005

My friends and I like to meet in the cafe and are always impressed. The quality of the food and value is so good. THey serve the best oysters in the city! No one else cooks food as consistent and tasty. WE celebrated a friend's birthday at the chef's table and it was perfect. We must have ordered everything from the menu and all of it was delicious! if you're looking for a great place to eat, any time of the day...this place is it! Pros: happy hour, free valet, consistency more

A bad scene 4/1/2005

A double birthday! Greeted with a succession of wait persons who seemed surprised to see us every time they walked by. My food arrived on time and was OK, but my spouse and co-birthday-celebrants waited an additional 20 minutes, were served what they hadn't ordered and, work of all, it was inedilble. I find myself scratching my head at all the positive reviews. I wouldn't risk it. more

I love this restaurant! 3/25/2005

Besides the food being absolutely amazing. The service is wonderful. You can tell a lot of thought was put into making people feel comfortable. Most restaurants you go in eat and leave. When my husband and I dine at Bluehour it like time stops.... when you are in there you dont feel like leaving. You really feel as you are on vacation right in your own back yard. We love it there and will go back again and again. Pros: parking, service, clean more

Love the music 3/25/2005

BlueHour has an eclectic music music mix which I love- reminds me of London, Berlin and Paris more

Don't get it!!! 3/21/2005

What is with this place? Service has become lousy, unless you are ""in"" with someone. Food is good, but after our 3rd visit, it went down hill. My entree was over cooked, vegetables were nearly cold. Drinks were good, but we had to ask for water and coffee several times. The place screams wanna be ""L.A"", without the service. It was a busy night, but we made reservations a month in advance. I am a 20-something and make 6 figures, and I still don't get it, nor appreciate the blaring noise. Won't be recommending this place for dining, romance or service. Perhaps if you are from Oregon City or some other dump of a place you would think it's the place to be seen. Don't waste your money or time, there are better establishments in Portland. Pros: Building, valet parking, cocktails Cons: service, service, much of the food, attitude more

SPECTACULAR! 2/25/2005

I'm glad Bluehour is in Portland because it raises the bar for all other restaurants. Both the lunch and dinner menus are loaded with my favorite dishes. Best salads, fish entrees and pastas in the city! I highly recommend Bluehour for lunch and dinner. Pros: Lunch, Entrees, Wine List more

Service and food does not match price & hype 2/15/2005

We expected a lot more. My wife had the ""dinner portion"" mushroom risotto and the presentation was just awful. My red snapper was a overdone for my taste. The dessert was better than average. The biggest problem we had was with the service. We told the waitress we will be sharing the salad but they did not bother to split to portion for us, the waitress never check on us until well after we were finished with our main course and we had to ask twice to get our coffee refilled. I can see how Bluehour may attract the trendy dating crowd but I personally don't find it to be an intimate dining environment for those who are in a more serious relationship. The bottom line is the food and the service just did not match the price and the hype. Cons: Poor service, Average food more

Still my favorite 2/5/2005

My friends recently moved here and we have taken them to Bluehour on several occasions. They have gone back on their own for birthdays and anniversaries. The service is great and the food is always memorable. Whether it's caviar or a great burger, this is the only restaurant in town who know how to do both above and beyond anyone else. Pros: Food, Decor, Cocktails more

Fabulous! 1/27/2005

I love taking my out of town clients to Bluehour. They are always very pleased to see that Portland has such world-class food. Pros: Elegant, Wonderfull food, Great service more

Keep your Expectations LOW 1/10/2005

Keep your expectations well below standard to avoid let down. Food was good, not exceptional. Service was POOR. We arrived 10 minutes prior to reservation time, expected a wait, but 35 minutes is unexceptable. Only once did the hostess check on us. There was no room in the bar, only enough for 1 and there were 2 of us. This was a special occasion, ruined by rude bar and waitstaff. We were NEVER offered a drink or menu while we waited. We almost walked out, but wanted to see what the hype was about. Hype is all it was. Once finally seated: forgotten several times, incorrect order, etc, our bill was over $200, but we planned on spending that, however service did not match. AVOID bluehour and save yourself the let down. We should have paid attention to the negative reviews. Yes, the music was way too loud for dinner. Pros: Wine list notable, building, food, "ok" Cons: , SERVICE, RUDE Service more

Cosmo 1/4/2005

Bluehour has the best cosmopolitan in town. I've tried them everywhere, but none compare. As I've only dined formally (not at the bar for the fondue) once, I can't say I know enough about the food, but service was excellent, they provided us an appetizer on the house in the bar as our table was not ready in time. Now that's how to do business! Try the caesar salad for two! It's decadent. Pros: You can dress up, Architecture, Cosmos more

Food is a 10, .....BUT 12/12/2004

Been to Bluehour a few times, but recently the service is absymal. Attention is desperately needed to fix the problems. Our water ran dry several times, they forgot to bring the coffee we ordered (twice). To top it off, when our food arrived, we had no silverware. When we asked, they promply brought utencils and were very apologetic. The building is spectacular, but ruined by very loud ""techno-like"" music. If I was 20-something, I wouldn't be bothered, but the more sophisticated crowd are annoyed. We waited 20 minutes beyond our reservation time, and attempted to find seating in the lounge, but the aggressive patrons monopolized all the empty seats, ""saving them for others"". We were never offered a beverage in the lounge, as we stood waiting. While I can not fault the marvelous food, wine list and desserts, it just isn't worth putting up with par service and attitude. Pros: food, food, wine list Cons: , other patrons, music more

Slipping . . . 10/4/2004

Bluehour is one of my favorites, but last Saturday was a little disappointing. They insisted on 7:45pm instead of my requested 8pm reservation, then wouldn't seat us until 8:20. Plus, I was being pushed by the bar waitress each time she walked by. I usually appreciate the slower pace between courses, but we were left for long periods of time without food or drink. The food didn't meet it's usual standard and my fish was dry. We will still go back, but I won't set my expectations so high. Pros: drinks, setting Cons: , rudeness more

Wonderful experience! 9/28/2004

As a Southern Californian, I don't think Portlanders know how good they have it. I just had an amazing Saturday night dinner at Bluehour; the food was spectacular, the service was flawless, and there was absolutely none of the ridiculous attitude that a restaurant like this would have here in SoCal. The staff was genuinely gracious while still being stylish and hip. Our only quibble was that several other groups of patrons were there in grungy jeans or too-casual outfits. The majority in the dining room knew how to dress for a sophisticated Saturday dinner downtown, but some folks looked like they got lost on the way to the hardware store and ended up at Bluehour. We'll return to this great find next time we are up in Portland! Pros: Food & Presentation, Gracious Service, Style Factor more

Portland Gem 9/24/2004

One of Portland's power lunch venues, to be sure. We enjoyed the dungeness crab salad sandwich (to die for). The chicken salad sandwich was also tasty but the cheese overpowered the delicate chicken flavors. Hand-made potato chips were fun & innovative. Carrot ginger soup was very good although I think mine is better. Very inquisitive fellow diners (think: LA lunch crowd without the attitude). Pros: food, decor, local ingredients more

Underrated 8/25/2004

It is tough to replicate Zefiro's success, and it isn't easy to create in Portland a cool environment for the hip crowd, the beautiful people. They pulled it off. Though so much coolness -borderline discomfort- may put some people off, it is well worth getting over it, and getting in. The food is delicious and well prepared. In small portions, the plates all come out perfect. Flavors and textures are classic and refined at the same time (e.g.: gnocchi appetizer). Nothing exotic - good French/New York fare, well executed. Service is knowledgeable although as it got busier (and louder), it grew less attentive. Food may take longer than necessary to come out of the kitchen. The wine list is not quite value driven, but is wide enough to give options without overwhelming. Overall a great dining experience with only few setbacks. Only one issue: it is really expensive. Pros: valet, hip crowd, food Cons: , expensive, loud! more

Lovely & Amazing 7/29/2004

It's easy to see why this place is so busy and well liked. The cuisine is unlike any other in the city - the restraint and flavor is unmatched. The decor makes me feel like ""this place gets it."" I'm not a happy hour goer but I will say that if you must, this is the place to get it. The selection and the prices are incredible. Where else can you get a bruschetta trio (one including grilled steak with black truffles) for under $5.00? Amazing. Anyone who thinks that the price is too high is blind. I've spent more at shotty, overrated restaurants and the food was about as edible as a sock. Thank you for such a lovely restaurant that Portlander's can be proud. Pros: Value, Cuisine, Ambience more

Sneaky. 7/13/2004

This one sneaks in on the wine angle, and to be fair, I've never even seen their list. Nothing could make me happier, though, than sitting on the deck after attending a tasting somewhere, and having the best happy hour burger in town with a couple of beers or foo-foo cocktails. Burger makes me happy. Pros: Burger, Beer, Beautiful people. more
