We live close to this place and enjoy coming here when we want a quiet, low-lit environment in a restaurant with good food and a good beer selection. We get the chicken pot pie an...

We sat outside to avoid the musty smell from the bar. The server was attentive and the beer was cold. Pros: bread Cons: food is not fresh

I may have a somewhat unpopular opinion of this place, but when I went there, I didn't particularly like it. The food and drinks were good, but a tad overpriced. The staff wasn't very friendly. They weren't especially rude, but I didn't feel I was welcome there. The experience was mediocre at best. I don't have any desire to return to the Bakehouse. more

Bakehouse is a very pleasant surprise. It is located in South Austin on Manchaca Road in an old strip mall. It's not a location where you would expect to find gourmet food at low prices. We had the crab-stuffed mushrooms, the stuffed shrimp and several of the chicken dishes. All were outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

I have yet to have a bad meal here. I started going to the Bakehouse a little less than a year ago and I have enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner there multiple times. This place's atmosphere made up of extremes. Your choice of a naturally lit dining room with plenty of windows or a backroom booth lined map room that makes you feel like you are in the dining car of the Orient Express. Bring your appetite, because like all diner-like restaurants, they don't skimp on portions and there's really nothing light on the menu. \r My favorite breakfast right now has to be the marvelous Mushroom Omelet made with Burgundy Sautéed Mushrooms with Swiss Cheese--amazingly decadent. I've tried their burgers, also which are really yummy and also just inhaled the South Austin Wellington for dinner one night, which is a chopped sirloin steak baked in puff pastry with cheddar cheese and mushrooms and served with Burgundy Sauce. All the prices are MORE than fair and this place seems to be a secret as I have never seen it filled to the brim with hungry customers. So there is a down side...no Pepsi or Coca-Cola on the premises. Can you fathom that? RC products only. But we can't all be perfect. Have I mentioned they have a great side bar and amazing selection of Bavarian beer? more

I really like their fried zucchini sticks. It's lightly battered (tempura like), and served with their horseradish sauce (or you can ask for ranch). They are delicious. I've had burgers, chicken dishes, and other sandwiches there..and always enjoyed. more

Upon first glance, the Bakehouse is a place you'd expect to find authentic American comfort food, not the wide array of international dishes the menu offers. But the variety...
