Editorial review from Citysearch 8/11/2012

I've been driving from Oklahoma City to Austin to get a half-sleeve from Craig Sheets. He's just that good. The shop is clean and everyone that works there is professional and super nice. The shop is very clean. Craig is a true artist and everyone that sees my tattoo is blown away. I'm very surprised to see bad feedback on this review. I'm guessing it must be rival shops. My good friend has also had a large cover up by Craig and another friend had work done with one of the other artists. They were both very happy with their tattoos and the experience. I've been to plenty of other shops in several states but this has by far been my best experience. I highly recommend this shop. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/1/2012

This is by far the best tattoo shop in Austin. I have been getting tattooed here for years and will never go anyplace else!! Craig Sheets has done both of my custom-designed sleeves and I could not be any happier with the design outcome or his professionalism. The owner Justin is always courteous to me and no matter how much time passes in between sessions he always shakes my hand and remembers my name, making me feel like a part of the Atomic family. I would recommend this shop for ANYONE who wants high-quality tattoo work,. more

Justin Timming is the WORST 4/11/2012

I would highly avoid this place. I went in to get a simple tattoo. Not only was Jason rude, but looked like he had a hangover. He spent more time stopping what he was doing, which was work, and spent more time txt messaging on his phone. He work is shoddy at best. He really need to also clean himself up and look at little professional. His ego is big but his work is horrible. Go elsewhere. more

BEST OF THE BEST 2/28/2012

ATOMIX on Burnet and Ronny Veritas? 5 F'ING STARS! This dude tattoo'd four words on my sister's foot, and made ME (who wasn't even getting a tat) feel like a welcomed guest. He was professional, explained each step to her (and me), cut jokes, and really gave us an overall GREAT experience. I will be back to have mine done by Ronny next week, and wil tell everyone I know how great this dude is. If you are new to the beautiful world of tat's.... Ronny is you guy. He is at the Burnet Lane store (and by the way, this store is so clean you could eat off the floor!). I swear, the experience we had tonite with Ronny is exactly what you HOPE to have, regardless if it is your first tat or the completion of your sleeve. AWESOME JOB, Ronny!!!! Pros: null Cons: null more

Worst Tattoo Experience Ever! 9/26/2010

In 2000, I moved to Austin the & wanted to mark the occasion by getting my 1st Tattoo. I drove by Atomic North dozens of times and finally decided to check it out. I looked through a portfolio by an artist named ""Tim."" (He's not there anymore thank God!) His portfolio looked respectable and I had a picture of the exact tattoo I wanted, a tribal Shark Circle. I thought it would simple enough and paid $90. ""Tim"" then proceeded to deface my chest deeply and tattooing his square version of my drawing larger than the drawing, off center without even stenciling or drawing on me 1st, Being a 1st timer I thought this was normal. There was so much blood, he cut deep,a and it was on my chest so I couldn't see what he was doing. It hurt like hell. When ""Tim"" was done I had a square tattoo instead of a circular one in the drawing i gave him. I was in shock that this jerk would deface my body so badly rather than refer me to someone who knew what they were doing. The owner of Atomic North saw the picture and theTim's horrible results the next day. None of the shark fins or tails were the same size and it looked nothing like the drawing. The owner actually gave me a full refund because ""Tim"" did such an awful job. But I've had to live with this monstrosity for 10 years now, and it sadens me whenever I look at it. There was no L.A. Ink show back then. Kat Von D & Cory Miller, 2 of the best tattoo artists in the world, will DRAW FREEHAND on someone occasionally, and then OK it with the client, but they never ever TATTOO FREEHAND. If only show like L.A. Ink existed in 2000. I ran into ""Tim"" at the old Ritz Club on 6th months later and he tried to talk to me. I said simply, ""I recognize you. I don't ever want to talk to you. You ruined my life."" I hope ""Tim"" is out of the tattoo business am disgusted with Atomic North for hiring someone so inexperienced who has scarred me for life with an awful tattoo! The only reason I didn't give them a 0 rating is because it wouldn't let me. more

Chris at Atomic on 183 was great!! 5/29/2010

I went to Christ a little over a year ago and got my husbands name tattooed on my rite inner forearm. HE DID AN AMAZING JOB on it...totally exceeded my expectations! It was only my 3rd tattoo so I was a little nervous but he totally made me feel at ease shooting the s*@t and cracking jokes and was NOT unprofessional ONE TIME!! My brother in law stayed with m while I was getting it done and he LOVED the work so much he is going to Chris when he is ready for his second. My best friend and I are going in next month to get matching tattoos and using Chris. So is my husband when he gos in to get our 4 kids names done. I have had SO MANY compliments on the quality of work on my arm and I always recomend Chris when someone I know is looking for an artist. I cant wait to go back and get MORE!! Pros: great work, fair pricing, fun atmosphere more

Mike Pain is the best. 5/4/2010

I recently finished a two tattoo project with Mike Pain at Atomic Tattoo & Body Piercing on Burnet. From the time I started to explain the idea until the finishing touches, this tattoo was a great experience. Pros: Honest, Clean, Amazing work Cons: None. more

My First Tattoo 4/4/2010

I got my first tattoo at the Burnett location tonight. Dallas was the artist I worked with. Walking in at 9ish, being kind of a yuppy-looking late 30s guy, I wasn't made to feel unwelcome or ""what are you doing here?"" He worked with me on the vague idea I had in my head for what I wanted and sketched out a great design. He could tell I was nervous (or maybe I came out and told him, I don't remember!) but he gave me a good idea of what I was getting into, kept me informed along the way to let me know how close to being done he was, and in general was quick, skilled (as far as I can tell so far), and professional. The place was clean, well lit, and in general pretty approachable. He even took a picture of it for me with my cell phone before covering it, geek that I am. He said he was new at the studio and didn't have written instructions for after-care, but he went over them verbally several times. He covered it with saran wrap, which I guess is a personal preference, but there is where written instructions would have helped allay my concerns when the first thing I read after googling ""how to care for my new tattoo"" said ""saran wrap....bad!"" Pros: Professional, quality, friendly Cons: Artist didn't provide written after-care instructions more

sorry bout your bad luck, but... 3/14/2010

I've had several tattoos and ear stretchings done at the Burnet location, and while I can understand why some people might feel intimidated... you should know that a tattoo is not going to help your self esteem if you're already having issues:( I have had nothing but great experiences here, and I have referred many of my friends and coworkers. I just read some of the not so shining reviews and I noticed that each one specifies that' the person ' giving the review was dressed like a dork and 'wah-wah-wah' was treated like crap. Not to mention they each strategically put the name of a competing tattoo shop in their reviews. Kinda dooshy if you ask me. Yes there are a ton of good shops around Austin, but from my experiences, I haven't seen anything out there that makes me want to switch shops. I recommend you only go to Atomic if you want a serious tattoo, not if you're looking for someone to blow hot air up your rear to make you comfortable. Pros: Artists all have extensive experience & backgrounds Cons: Other tattoo shops are jealous;) more

atomic cherry 2/23/2010

real neat boutique. the name of it is cool so i walked inside and was very suprised. i thought it would be all cherries but its not more

Don't Waste Your Time 2/7/2010

I read all the reviews here before chancing it at Atomic- but I figured I would check it out anyway. I walked into the Burnet location, and yes I admit I looked a little like a deer in headlights- I had never been in a tattoo shop before, and there was all kinds of flash to look at, so it was a little overwhelming. But regardless, instead of being helpful- the guy at the front took it as a chance to jump all over me and be a total jerk. While I was talking about what I wanted, the woman sitting behind the counter was rolling her eyes, because apparently I'm not quite badass enough for them. Then I watched as a tattoo artist talked to another customer like they were a total idiot. At that point, I knew i wouldn't be choosing them. So, sorry to say that those negative reviews probably AREN'T made up. Really- don't waste your time here...there are MUCH better tattoo shops in Austin (I ended up going to Southside, and it was a totally different experience...in a good way!) Pros: Lots of flash to choose from Cons: Rude, lack of customer service skills, crappy atmosphere more

So far, so good! 1/24/2010

I'm working my way up to getting my first tattoo. All I need to do is turn 18! While I was at work one night, me and a co-worker of mine were talking about tattoo's, and she referred me to her tattooist. We called him up, and he was pleased to hear that I wanted a tattoo. That next weekend I went down to see him, and he worked with me to help me find the perfect position and everything that I want. After our first meeting, I have been going down there every few weeks, and the pictures that my tattooist has come up with for me are absolutely breath-taking. Every time I walk in, I am professionally greeted, and I receive excellent service. So far, making the trip down there has definitely been worth my time. I'm extremely excited to see what the outcome of my tattoo will look like. The price is definitely fair, I think, for all the detail that will be going into my tattoo. With the way I have been treated so far, I'm sure the after effect of my tattoo will be tremendously great. Pros: I am able to get the exact tattoo I want. Cons: I can't think of anything! more

Best tattoo parlor I've ever been to! 12/28/2009

I have six tattoos and wanted two more, to celebrate this year for me. First of all, I turned 21, and secondly, I got early admissions to Yale Law! For my 21st, I knew exactly what I wanted. I'm 1/2 Greek and was raised by my Greek grandmother, so I got Greek characters for 21 on my inner arm. But I didn't know what to get to commemorate the other, so a team (that's right!) worked with me to learn more about me and my perspective/attitude/reasons for going to Yale and working so hard to get there, and we decided on ""de iure"" on my heart, since it is so important to me. ""de iure"" means ""according to the law"" in Latin, and legal jargon is chock full of Latin, so it was perfect! Pros: They will work with you to create something that is foryou! more

pretty good for the price 12/1/2009

The staff is friendly and they charge a decent price for what you get. I went to a different place and they were so dirty I had to walk out. But atomic is fairly clean and the instruments look well taken care of. more

Great for your first tattoo! 10/24/2009

I wanted to commorate my 50th birthday with a tattoo, but I didn't have a clue where to start. I met a girl at Kerby Lane who showed me her new tattoo, it was beautifully detailed, the lines were thin and the colors bright.I didn't know a tattoo could be such a work of art. Scott at Atomic Tattoo on Burnt Rd. was the artist. After breakfast we headed there. When I walked in Scott greated us,(my husband & me), he was very nice, told me to look around to get an idea what I wanted,I decided on a humming bird. He drew it out several times untill it was exactally what I wanted. He was very patient. He put the stencil on me, had me look at it to be sure I liked the placement and explained how it was going to feel.We also talked about the colors he would use.It came out beautiful, I am so pleased with it, I show every body I know. Two days ago I went back to Scott and got a flower to go with the bird, it's gorgeous,I love it.I waited a long time to get a tattoo and I am glad I found such a profesional to do it. Pros: very, very clean, friendly & professional more

Professional, respectful body piercers 7/17/2009

I had 3 piercings done - no problems - staff are professional, respectful and know what they are doing. Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable, sanitary Cons: Need a front office staff more

GREAT PIERCING JOB! 3/14/2009

I got my cartilage pierced by Curtis, and he did an amazing job! I did not have to wait, and he was very friendly and informative! Pros: friendly, fast, and painless! Cons: Pricy more

Friendly and Genuine Artists. 3/8/2009

I got my first (and only) tattoo at Atomic's MLK location. I thought I'd feel awkward in the shop, but everyone in this place was laid-back and friendly. Seriously, the negative reviews have to be bullshite. I never write reviews, but I felt like these negative feedbacks had to be discredited. The guys at the MLK location were genuine and friendly people. Just stop by and talk to them if you don't believe me. I'd make a fawkin infomercial for them. My girlfriend and I went into the shop with a design, and the artist, Silver, sketched something up pretty quick. He gave me a price quote and then asked if I wanted to continue. I said yes and he finished the sketch. Silver knocked it out of the park. I told him to use his artist senses for the coloring and he did. Thanks to Atomic, I think I might be addicted to tattoos. My girlfriend really liked the work Silver did. So much that she almost considered going in the next day to get her first tattoo too. Pros: Cool, Skilled, and Patient Artists Cons: None. I mean, hell, one of the dudes asked me if I needed anything from the gas station. more

Friendly AND Professional 3/6/2009

Honestly, one of my better piercing experiences. I just came in to browse with an vague inkling of getting a piercing (haha) The guy was super nice, friendly, answered all my questions w/ no pressure. I ended up getting my tongue pierced, painless by the way and I still have it 4 years later. These guys are great and I recommend them all the time. Cons: Parking more

Cold shoulder, didn't want my business?! 1/17/2009

I read them online first, and picked out my artist. When I went there, I got the weirdest look from the guy at the desk (I think it was the pink Longhorn jersey I was wearing). I told him I had read their website and had picked out the artist I wanted. He said the artist wasn't there, but anybody else could do it. I said I really liked that artists' work. He said call around 5. So, just to be on the safe side, I called at 6 and talked to the artist. It was horrible! Talk about the cold shoulder! This guy might have just as well hung up on me! I tried to tell him about the tattoo I wanted, and he said he would have to see what it looked like because he had never heard of a dream catcher. I said what time can I come by? He said anytime. I'd name a time, and he would say he had an appointment at that time. I'd name another time, he would have an appointment. I started naming other days and times, and he either had appointments or was off. I once again asked him what would be a good time. He said anytime. At this point, I decided to give up. I was tired of the runaround. If they didn't want my business, that was fine. I would go elsewhere, and I did. Pros: Colorful Cons: Has an atmosphere of ""Customers NOT Wanted"". No benches or chairs, counter guy looks at you like he wants you to go away or drop dead on the spot so he doesn't have to be bothered with you. more
