Top artists in town 12/31/2008

It's immediately obvious to anyone who has been into an Atomic Tattoo that the last two reviews are bogus. Total fabrications. Probably by someone at another shop as a lame attempt to lure away business from Atomic. I have been tattooed and pierced at three of the locations and I can assure everybody reading this that the staff at Atomic are very friendly, very professional and very clean. I have always been made to feel welcome every time I have been to Atomic and can't imagine ever trusting my body to any other tattoo shop. Pros: Amazing tattoos by great people Cons: What's with the parking at Burnet? more

Horrible Place, Horrible Experience, Bad Customer Service and Dirty 11/28/2008

I went to Atomic on Burnet Rd to get a small tattoo and a nose piercing. I walked in and waited 10 minutes until someone came out from the back room. Since I brought a small design of what I wanted for my tattoo, I showed it to the person Mike?? and he said he could do it for $60. And the piercing would cost $80. I was nervous about getting both done at the same time and agreed. While I was signing up, he asked me if I had gone to any other shops in Austin, I told him I had visited three different shops. He was quick to tell me what was wrong with every one of them. This should have been my first clue about this place. The shops I had visited were not at all like he described them. In fact, if I had it to do all over again, I would have (and should havewalked out then). The place was dirty, the artist was rude and they all made me feel uncomfortable. I let them do my tattoo which needed a touch-up. I didn't let them do my nose piercing. When I called back three weeks later, they wanted to charge me another $60! At that point, I told them I would get it fixed somewhere else. They said ""Go ahead!"". So I did and now it looks great. They left several spots blank and the lines were not straight. Makes me wonder what they were doing in the back room! Went to another shop in the area to get my nose pierced and told them of my experience with Atomic. They were empathetic and did not ""bad rap"" them even thought they could have. That's class! Or, should I say professional? Cons: Bad Work, Dirty, and Overpriced more

Terrible tattoo 11/24/2008

I got a tattoo by one of the guys there. Can't remember his name, but I believe he was one of the newer guys. I was getting an open book on my wrist, covering up a little heart I had on there. The artist told me it would be difficult since it was so dark, but he could do it. At first he tells me it'll be $80. Then just before we're supposed to start he says actually, it'll be $100. I should have stopped him right there. So I get the tattoo, it looks...weird. The heart is still clearly visible. People ask me if I have a moth on my wrist. It's full of wonk. I figure maybe it will look better healed. Nope. Looks worse. Iffy shading, wobbly lines, and that damn heart is still as bright as ever. I called back to see if I could get it touched up...and they said it would be a minimum of $60. Right. I'd rather go to someone who actually knows how to tattoo and pay THEM then this stupid shop who ripped me off. Pros: Reasonable price Cons: Poor communication, terrible work more

Don't use Chris at Atomic At 13686 HWY.183 north 11/7/2008

This is about the new Atomic on research that used to be Tattoo Zoo. Pros: Place is clean Cons: Chris does'nt know what he's doing more

Jay is Awesome! 10/27/2008

So, I am not a pierced person by any stretch of the imagination, but decided to get a discreet piercing. . . I was pretty nervous, even though I had researched for a few months prior to going. Pros: Friendly, professional, clean, easy access to portfolios Cons: None that I can think of more

terrible service 9/7/2008

I visited Atomic Tattoo almost 3 weeks ago to discuss buying jewelry and having a piercing Gauged up. I have 7 tattoos and 1 piercing from shops where I went to college in Savannah, GA, So i'm familiar with how shops work and what constitutes good service. I was referred to the shop owner, who discussed the piercing with me and said he'd have to order my jewelry. Okay, cool. A week later I still haven't heard from him, so i call, and I'm told he's out of town. A week later I call, and get him on the phone and he says he hasn't had time to order my jewelry. A week after that I call again, and get his personal email, which I emailed on Monday and still haven't heard a reply. If they don't want to serve me, they don't get my business. And they probably don't deserve yours either. Pros: it's a local tattoo shop Cons: they could care less about helping many people more

Best Artist in Texas!!!! 9/3/2008

I have been trying to create a tattoo for over three years and have been to many shops and spoke to many artists. I have even paid some of the artist for their time and drawings. Many of the artists that I spoke to and worked with only wanted to draw their vision and what they thought my idea should look like. Pros: Great Artist more

Best Tattoo in Texas 8/20/2008

Mike Pain, Mike Pain, Mike Pain...............There is not enough I can say for this man.... I have had Mike do 5 tattoos and NO ONE will ever tattoo me other than him. Yup, PHXSON is the name, I live in Phoenix, AKA, $400.00 flight to get Atomic Tattoo (including the $15.00 per bag fee) I will gladly fly for a weekend tattoo when Mike is involved. Pros: Excellent staff...They have Mike Pain, enough said. Cons: They are a 2.5 hour flight away. more

OUTSTANDING TATTOO ARTIST 8/18/2008

When I decided I wanted to get a tattoo I wasn't sure exactly where to go. A friend HIGHLY recommended Mike Pain at Atomic Tattoo. Man am I glad he did!!! Mike drew up exactly what I wanted and did a GREAT job. I am so pleased with my tattoo. Mike is a great artist and made the whole experience so fun. Atomic Tattoo is the place to go get a tattoo and Mike Pain is one of the BEST artist out there. Pros: Great artist - Mike Pain Cons: Parking at Burnet store a little tight more

If your looking for the Best! Mike Pain 8/16/2008

About six weeks ago I got my first tattoo at the ripe old age of 46. Mike Pain did the work for me at Atomic Tattoo on Burnet Road. I had a design I had drawn up and played with for several years. Mike took my so so art work and made a masterpiece. The piece covered most of my upper left arm. I am extremely pleased. I was so pleased I went back for my second tattoo on my right upper arm (another large piece). The work is exquisite and the artist (Mike Pain) is a great guy. Mike is a true artist. I like his professional demeanor and the fact that he is honest with his feedback on what will make a great tattoo and what would not. Maybe that is where some people get pushed out of shape (when someone is honest with professional feedback). I would want to know if the tat was going to look average or bad. I am getting my third tattoo next week of my best friend who died last year (Buddy the bulldog). My background is I am in management for Cisco Systems and as a technology professional I have high standards (somewhat a perfectionist). Atomic Tattoo (Justin) and his staff are very professional, and Mike Pain is just one of the best tattoo artist I have ever seen (on TV or in person). One small negative, watch getting in and out of the parking at the Burnet road site. ;-) Otherwise, I just don't believe you will find a much better Tattoo Shop or Tattoo Artist (Mike Pain) in Austin or Texas, and maybe US. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MIKE PAIN AND ATOMIC TATTOO. You won't regret it! At Atomic Tattoo you are not just treated like a customer, you are treated like family. Pros: Staff is very professional Cons: Parking is tight in front more

good tattoo, bad service 8/9/2008

I went to the Atomic on Burnet for my first tattoo. I walked in knowing exactly what I wanted and also feeling a bit nervous and squeamish. The atmosphere didn't help. First of all, I don't really look like a girl who would be interested in tattoos. I know that, but when I walked into the shop, I felt that the peoples' attitude towards me was basically, ""What is she doing in here?"" It was very off-putting. I was kept waiting for an hour, even though they weren't particularly busy. When I showed the guy what I wanted (I don't know his name, since he didn't introduce himself.), he took it and made a bunch of other designs that were NOTHING like what I wanted. Fortunately, I stood my ground and he (grudgingly) agreed to do it. The tattoo itself came out fine and only took a few minutes, so I am pleased with it, though I did feel it was over-priced. But he wasn't very nice about it and I did not feel comfortable there at all. I'm going to get another tattoo soon. I will not be going there. Pros: good tattoo and after-care instructions Cons: horrible atmosphere and customer service more

Pleased! 7/23/2008

I recently got a new tattoo and chose to go to Atomic on Burnett because I had heard great things about them. Everything I heard was true. Mike Pain who did my tattoo, drew up a design and it was beautiful. The tattoo turned out great and Mike was very nice and friendly. I now have a great tattoo and a new tattoo artist for LIFE! I will be going back. Pros: You don't have to go downtown. more

all great personalities live in austin but the best are seen at ATOMIC 7/23/2008

ok as far as tattoos go i am very picky, i don't want to walk around for the rest of my life stuck with something i didn't really want in the beginning, cause our tattoos are a reflection of who we are,so i will not go to just anyone on 6th street like so many of our partiers do,if i don't know you or your work it will not be done,at least not on me i have been to different tattoo shops looking for the right place to get my work done and have seen what they do as far as not only the work they do or the art they have but from how they run their buisness to how they treat their customers, for myself being a hairstylist people skills are far more important than anything cause without that there is no art to form, and i say that i have never felt more at home than Atomic..it was not my first time visiting Atomic because like i said i am very picky and not very trust worthy of people so yes i visited EVERY shop there is in Austin, including the so called awesome Platinum Ink ,yeah right, there was no greeting at the door,no how was i doing,i have known many people who walked away from that place so disapointed and what else could they do but live with it,Hello, tattoos are permanent, and when i finally found the RIGHT place i called Mike Pain, why because he greeted me when i 1st walked in what i wanted was not just a tattoo but one that has a meaning(isn't that what we all want from a tattoo)i told him in description what i wanted..he asked a few questions and drew a pic...perfect..to what i had told him i wanted...i was a bit nervous being the tattoo was one my upper back and i was unsure of what to expect but he was very reassuring and in no time he was done...as for me it was the best tattoo experiance i have ever had and i will not be afraid to go back to him or the place for that matter, and if you have had a bad experience with Mike Pain then you have never been tattooed by him.....so heres to you Atomic thanks,i love my new tattoo....and so will my friends,mandy-jo Pros: even though i was new to the area, they treated me like a lifetime customer Cons: parking haha more

great work 7/20/2008

I just got some work done with Scott at the Burnet location! He was really nice and very talented. I went in with a drawing that i wanted, but i wanted it changed a little bit and Scott just went straight to work on it. It came out better than I had expected because of Scott! I will surly go back to him for more work! Pros: price, artist Cons: parking more

SO Rude 6/12/2008

I walked into Atomic (on Burnet) and had my design in hand. All the artist had to do was transfer it onto a stencil and put it on me. I had Mike Pain as well and he was extremely rude to me. He made me feel like the tattoo which was a cross on my back was not a good design and that I should get a different one. After trying to talk me out of my tattoo for several minutes I finally said that I wanted the cross, and that I was going to get it. The entire time he was tattooing me he made rude comments and made me feel bad about my choice of tattoo. After being ridiculously overcharged I left and I will NEVER return. I recently went to Platinum Ink and the entire staff was incredible. Atomic Ink needs to work on their customer service skills. Maybe they should take a lesson from Platinum Ink. more

decent tattoo, lousy experience 6/9/2008

I got a pretty simple tattoo: a cat's head, to be done in solid black with another color detail for the eyes. I came in with the design on a paper so that all the artist had to do was transfer it to my foot. The tatooo came out nice and I still enjoy it, which is the important part. Pros: tattoo came out fine Cons: lame more

Pflugerville Atomic Tattoo 4/22/2008

Went in on Monday - early afternoon, and I was the only customer there, but the 2 guys working there was more interested in watching DVDs on their computer. I was directed to the racks of drawings without any recommendations or questions as to what I was looking for. When i chose a design I liked, I was taken to a room with the tall guy with the dred-locks, so he could finish the customization of the design. He literally spent more time watching the movie on his PC than working on my drawing. After 5 minutes of being ignored, I walked out. Cons: poor selection, no customer assistance more

Great shop 3/4/2008

I was very pleased with my artist and tattoo. Very clean, professional and friendly. My piece turned out great! I will go back for my next one! more

Customer Service? 3/3/2008

I went to Atomic for my first tattoo on the recommendation of a few friends, and thought I had a pretty good first experience. Mikey tattooed me, and she seemed pretty nice, even though she never shook my hand or introduced herself. Pros: affordable Cons: long wait, poor customer service, aftercare instructions not given verbally - just on a business card more
