Best

I've lived in Atlanta for 17 years now and this is my favorite place in the entire city. The words that I always use to describe it are : intimate, loose, hip, stylish, inviting, ...

Worst

We chose Apres Diem for a late night birthday dinner, a party of 5, when we arrived we had to wait a few minutes for a table, which was not a problem, so two of us went to the bar...

Go to Waffle House instead... 9/14/2005

Last week, I patroned Après Diem. I want you to know that I will not be returning. I found the restaurant to be offensive. The servers were over-sat and rude. The appetizer came with 3 appetizer plates for a party of four. I returned the dirty silverware, which I had to request, that was presented to me. I had to request EVERY refill of wine and water I needed. Lastly, there were two quarter sized chips of my entree dish broken of. One of my other guests also had chips broken as well. Unless I'm mistaken, these chips can harbor bacteria. Overall, I would say the dining experience was the worst I've had in years. I will admit that I do expect dining out to be pleasant and clean without exception. The food was good, but not good enough to offset every other aspect of the experience. Offended Pros: location, desserts Cons: no parking, poor service, cleanliness more

Cool and relaxed vibe..... 8/3/2005

I think Apres Diem is a great place to grab a bite, get a drink and chill with a friend or two. The food is so much better than regular bar food, showing a fair amount of quality and creativity, and the DJ spins some nice tunes that contribute to the relaxed vibe. Apres Diem is a great casual hangout. Pros: Good Value, Nice vibe Cons: Rickety Furniture, Overcrowded Bar more

NOT a good look 3/4/2005

i was so disappointed to come here after recently moving back to atlanta. a few years ago, this was an intimate, cozy place to bring a date or catch up with your girlfriends, but now it's just bustling, overcrowded and smoke-filled. i guess too many people found out about the area or something, but it's been completely ruined. this former urban oasis has become a real nightmare _ especially the parking. Pros: convenient location Cons: parking, noise, lack of space more

Disappointed. 2/13/2005

I frequent this place a weekly and have noticed that the service has become sloppy lately. The once kind wait and bar staff now seem put out when asked to refill waters or clear tables. 20% tips are expected for barely 10% effort. I hope the staff turns over soon. more

Walk on up 12/13/2004

I live just across Monroe Dr. from Apres and frequent this spot on a semi-regular basis. It is a wonderful place to come alone and read (early in the day) or to go with a first date to ""talk over coffee."" I can see why others would have ""bad experiences,"" but this is certainly a place you need to experience yourself in order to make an informed choice. I definately wouldn't ever let a few poor reviews keep me from findong out for myself. And on the off chance you do have a bad time- inform the management. The brunch is wonderful- the desserts are great, and the coffee is one of a kind! Try it out yourself, all you have to lose is a few bucks! Pros: Tomato Montrachet, Great Desserts, Good value/portions Cons: , Too "Youthful" Crowd more

skip this one for carroll st. 8/23/2004

Basically, we had the worst service ever. I will say that the patio was full, but our waitress forgot everything, 2 or 3 times, and left a plate of mussels sitting on our table for 20 minutes after we were finished. She then proceeded to give us the wrong check with someone elses change inside. It then took her 10 minutes to correct the mistake! Carroll St Cafe, by the same owners, is a diamond in the rough; skip Apres Diem and head on over, much better service and a cozier more intimate atmosphere. Pros: next to landmark thea more

Shudson 7/12/2004

I want to say that Apres Diem has a great atmosphere for a romantic first date in Atlanta. The couches, good food, art, coffee, and Dj combined with the dim lighting are combined to produce great environment where people can connect. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to spend a romantic evening with a very resonable price. Pros: Atmosphere more

Going downhill 4/9/2004

A few years ago this was a good place. Don't know what's happened since then, but when i went recently, it was bland food and not a good vibe. The owner seemed like a total jerk. Too bad. Cons: , vibe more

trendy city vibe? 10/10/2003

this place is not trendy. the menu is tired and not a good value. the only reason that this place is still around is its location. the one in decatur is much much better. i think it's hilarious that people think this is haute cuisine! it's nothing but applebees that serves spring mix with its sandwiches instead of fries... Pros: location, patio Cons: food, service more

Feel the Vibe! 9/25/2003

I wouldn't recommend this place for a date, as it's crowded but not intimate. However, it's a great place to feel the trendy city vibe and hang out with friends. The service normally good, but you feel the squeeze when they're busy. The food is good, but not filling. It's worthe money. Pros: Ambiance, Inexpensive, Trendy Cons: Can get too crowded, parking more

Never dissapoints 1/18/2003

I've been going to the 'Diem' family of restaurants since back in the 'Cafe' days. These guys never let you down. The entree choices are standard fare but the specials is where the action is. The atmosphere is great - not overpowering but never dull - check out the lounge area - amazing place for a long, drawn out evening with friends. Here's why this place works - the owner is always there - the staff is constantly attentive & polite - the product is consistent & keeps you coming back. more

Love the gyros 12/6/2002

Didn't like the sandwiches, but the gyro is delicious and meaty (get the feta!). Comes with fruit rather than oily fries. I had a really yummy salmon pasta here as well. Dessert was nothing spectacular. It's a great atmosphere, not too uptight but not too casual either. Pros: Cool atmosphere Cons: Strip mall more

Try Carpe Diem instead... 11/26/2002

The crowd and the service are a bit lacking lately. Luckily, it looks like they're trying something different at Carpe Diem, which is their new location on Commerce in Decatur (near the IceHouse lofts). The bartenders and waitstaff are a HUGE improvement (especially if you go Wednesday night). The food is better and the setting is cool too. You can seat yourself and find a cozy spot to settle into. Pros: location, euro style, desserts Cons: service, price, food more

Bar staff unprofessional kids 11/20/2002

Great Euro atmosphere and the food is great. It's unfortunate that some of the bar staff lacks anything resembling professionalism. What do you expect from kids anyway? I'd stay away from the bar until until the new years turnover will have a new cast of characters. more

Think it's more bar than restaurant 10/10/2002

Had my first Apres Diem experience last night. Was with a group of people and the service was attentive. The drinks were ok. The food got good reviews but the hummus was served with just olives and pita bread - we asked for (and received promptly) a plate of tomatoes and cucumbers to go along. Cool place. Pre-recorded music was cool - eclectic indian-trancey beats - not too loud that we couldn't have a conversation. Candlelight and fresh flowers everywhere was a nice touch. Liked the sofas that let you chill comfortably. Thumbs up for the place. Pros: ambiance, music and seating, candles flowers more

Good place to chill, swill, & eat 9/24/2002

This is a good place to go when you are too lazy to go out, but want to eat and have the feeling that you went out. The food is always above average (I like the Salad Nicoise, Pastas, Hummus), they have a DJ spinning down tempo, one room is very lounge, and they have a good bar scene & patio. Downside--strip mall. This place should go in the vacant space below Post Parkside @ 10th & Myrtle... Pros: Vibe, My lazy night out, Consistent food Cons: Strip Mall, Needs mo' ladies, asking fo' my # more

cool place, but the food? 8/26/2002

i love this place, i really do, but after having been a a dozen times or so, i have learned that one should dine elsewhere. the food has always been sub-par, but i can't help but return because of the ambience. great for a cup of coffee or beer (wine list should offer at least ONE drinkable wine!), and there is a movie theater adjacent to it for cinematic convenience. Pros: ambience, bar, patio Cons: food more

cocktails and calamari!!! 8/3/2002

...truly one of the coolest spots in Atlanta; the ambiance is unparalleled, as is the selection of mouth-watering appetizers, sandwiches and desserts. A great date spot or a place to take the 'rents when they're in town visiting. Oh, forgot to mention the weekend brunch which is outstanding. My favorites are the fried calamari and salmon ciabatta (you won't be disappointed!). Upgrading the wine list as well as their house blend coffee would truly elevate Apres to another level!! Pros: ambiance, food, dessert Cons: wines, coffee, service more

La Vie - c'est l'Apres Diem 7/29/2002

The best ambiance, the best owner, the best wait staff, the best full meal, the best light snack, the best mixed drinks, the best coffee, the best desserts, the best live music. Simply the best. more

owesome 7/26/2002

I am a regular customer at Apres Diem and I would recomend anyone to go visit. First of all, excelent service, great athmoshpere. Free parking is another advantage. At night, they turn on candles on all tabels and that makes Diem romantic. If you want to show someone some wormth it is a good place to bring someone special there. Pros: great service, outside tables(nice), romantic at night more
