Do Not Bring Your Pets Here!!! 11/17/2010

I recently went to angell memorial for an emergency for my 1year old dog who was not blinking his eye. They were very rude and ignorant and they did not care about nay of the animals only money!!! thats all the doctor talked about when i brought my dog there. i brought my dog to my vet the next day to confirm what angell memorial was telling me and it was not true!! they lied and rushed me out! I will never go there again and I wouldnt recommend anyone bringing their pets there!! more

The Best 4/22/2010

I've had two dogs treated for cancer at Angell. They were both treated with the upmost respect and dignity until the end. Noplace like the Angell. They are the best. more

No more donations from us! 4/5/2010

After reading what I have seen posted on this, and other sites, we will NEVER EVER donate another penny to this hospital. I was under the impression that NO animal was turned away within reason. That is why we have donated to this place for the past 20 years, but no more. On that, you can depend! more

As my star rating says: "unsatisfactory" 4/2/2010

I have a hamster that has a condition called "wet tail" which is caused by stressful situtations (just bought a house, which is an environmental change for her). I called Angell Memorial to ask for a prescription without having to drive her to be seen only bc the ride will probably be too stressful and could possibly kill her before she even sees the vet. Not only did they refuse me, they didn't even know what "wet tail" is which is the most common sickness for small animals. So much for a world renowned hospital huh? more

Don't go there 3/31/2010

I will NEVER go back to Angell Memorial. My Boston Terrier suffered a stroke and being told Angell was the best, I took him there. They kept him for 2 nights under "observation". I put that in quotes because when I went to visit my little buddy, they had him shoved in a cage in a room ful of cages - no water, the cage was filthy. When I finally got him back, they told me he hadn't suffered any seizures. Amazing cos $3500 later and in the car after just leaving the hospital, he suffered a seizure and continued to suffer them until I got him to a vet who saved his life. If you can go to Mass Vet Referral Hospital in Woburn. You have to be referred by your Vet, but they saved my buddy's life as well as doing back surgery on him that prolonged his life. I thought I was going to lose him at 7 yrs old. I lost him at 14 yrs. more

If you don't have $$ your pet WILL die!! 2/21/2010

Their main concern is $$$ not your pet's health. I brought my healthy 2 year old pit bull in on a Thursday night. He could not pee and I was told he had kidney stones backed up in his uretha. They told me that he had to have emergency surgery for $4000 right then and there or put him to sleep. My puppy has never been sick before. This puppy has been with me since he was 3 weeks old, he was my 4 legged baby. I didn't have $4000 and wasn't able to do the financing. My puppy was in so much pain that I had no choice but to put him to sleep. If Neponset Pet Hospital was open at that time he would have had a better chance of survival. Angell offered me two options: pay $4000 or he will die. I am so sorry that I took my puppy to Angell Hospital. They are a non profit organization whose mission statement is about just and compassionate treatment for animals. They should add, "only if you have the $$" They are a business and all that matters is money. After my puppy was euthanized, the more

Cats and Degu went for a visit. 11/12/2009

I have two separate experiences to shape my review of AAMC. One is for emergency, weekend treatment of an exotic animal and the other for two older cats and their annual exam and shots. The emergency visit went well, and I was pleased that I could see an exotic vet with experience with degu (gerbil-like animals that most vets won't see or know nothing about) and they identified over a short period of time, several problems and settled on a comlete hypothesis of why my degu was sick. I did not like paying the $140 for the emergency visit - but again - no other vet would even look at this type of animal let alone a first visit on a weekend!!! So for that, I am grateful. I ended up euthanizing the animal +$28 because his problem was systemic and lifelong. He was suffering. I made sure to ask them not to perform any treatment without telling me the cost first - this is necessary at all vets. They did have a Tufts intern talk with me face to face - the vets in the back area were examin more

Thank you to the professional staff at Angell Animal Medical Center 10/8/2009

I had not been to Angell Memorial before last Sunday. When I knew it was time for my 14 year old cat, Jake, to cross over, I didn't know where to turn. I tried contacting veterinarians who do house calls to see if Jake couldn't be put to rest here in his home, but no one was available on that Sunday. I was referred to Angell Memorial. I called for information regarding euthanasia, and the person with whom I spoke was gentle and compassionate. I brought Jake to Angell Memorial and the people at the front desk were kind and sympathetic. I was told that a pet who needed to be put down would not have to wait long to be seen by the veterinarian. Jake and I were shown to an examining room to give us privacy and very shortly thereafter a young female veterinarian, Dr. Davis, came in. She explained the procedure and asked whether I wanted to be with Jake when he died; I couldn't decide. She kindly told me I could take all the time I needed to make the final decision. Being sued; inexperience vet scared neighbors into putting their dog down. 5/4/2009

In the middle of the night on April 27th, my neighbors were walking their small dog when my large dog spotted him and ran to the end of my driveway where they were standing. My dog is 9 years old, has bad hips and is always in pain...he sleeps 23 hours a day. He has been around small children and other dogs all his life with no incident. But my neighbors constantly let THEIR dog come into my yard to torment him while I had him tied up outside. Well, he spotted their dog and wanted to let him know who's boss, I guess. A dog fight ensued; both dogs bit each other. My dog had gashes on his muzzle and theirs had bite marks on his chest. My neighbors freaked out and somehow talked me into driving them and their dog an hour to A.M. at 2 in the morning. When we got there, my neighbor "realized" he had "forgotten" his license. So the admitting nurse made ME fill out the paperwork before they would even look at the dog. That was the first mistake. We waited an hour and half before the vet final more

My life is a nightmare because of one inexperienced vet 5/4/2009

My next door neighbors are suing me for ""emotional damages"" related to the loss of their dog. Their dog and mine got in a fight late at night last week and I felt bad because my dog is much bigger (even though their little monster has been tormenting my dog for WEEKS and he kind of had this coming), so I offered to help pay the bill if they took their dog to our local vet's office in the morning. Instead, they freaked out and talked me into driving them and the dog into Angell Memorial at 3 in the morning. The ""vet"" told us she ""felt like"" the dog was suffering and that she was ""afraid he *might* die"". My neighbors do not speak very good English and were already tired and distraught. I couldn't pay the $2500 she wanted to perform xrays and ""invasive cleaning,"" so they opted to have their dog put to sleep. NOW I'm being sued and MY dog is labeled a killer. I hate that vet and I hope the whole hospital burns to the ground. This is the worst thing I've ever been through. Cons: impersonal, expensive, inexperienced, poor ""bedside manner"" more

cold, impersonal, and sure to cover themselves legally. 2/15/2009

No matter how much the ER doctors know medically, they have a lot to learn about bedside manner with pet owners. They are insistant and pushy. They talk at you about your pet and then write in the discharge papers that you and the doc ""discussed"" these things. They decide what your case dictates and only do as much as they think needs to be done, then they write you off. more

Life Savers! 2/2/2009

I traveled all the way from Bermuda and the staff were very nice to me and treated Diamond (Maltese) with the same care I do. They kept me up to date as she had to stay with them over night. Diamond had an MRI and blood work done. She was quickly diagnosed with an ailment that is more so seen in Maltese breeds. Unfortunately the vet's in Bermuda are not equipped to make such a diagnoses but thanks to Dr. Neil of Ends Meet he was able to refer me to a very good Hospital - Ange ll. I highly recommend Dr. Andrew Farabaugh, DVM if your dog like my diamond needs to be seen by an neurologist! I will say it was worth every penny as my Diamond could be dead already! We got there just in time for them to help her!!! Thanks Angell Memorial more

Inexperience Contributed to Dog's Death at Angell Memorial 1/25/2009

My dog was a healthy and happy 10 year old Siberian Husky, who suddenly came down with an infection that caused him to vomit and be lethargic. When I brought him to Angell 24 hours after he started showing symptoms of lethargy, the very young doctor at the ER was convinced it was a problem with his back because he "seemed sore there." I guaranteed her that was not the problem as he never in his life had a back ache. He had a very high temperature and was starting to get sore. I asked repeatedly if they were going to give him antibiotics because I "know he needs them." She brushed me off and said they never give antibiotics until they determine the source of an infection. Well, after blood tests (that took over 24 hours to come in b/c I brought him in on a Sunday) they weren't able to determine, and the next day he started to develop a form of very painful arthritis. The doctors assumed this was all it was -- arthritis, because they couldn't find an infection. So to treat the arthritis, more

RIP OFF 12/31/2008

They are a rip off all they really care about is the money if you dont have the money they will let you pet die. They dont even have a payment plan. I had a pet took her there because there was a really bad problem with her and they wanted almost 3000. So since I did not have it they decided not to do surgery and did not care if she did or not so i had no choice but to leave her there. I was so hurt because she was a baby the families little baby. And because of the money god knows if she is ok or not. Please before anything happens to your pet and u need to take her to the hospital try finding another place that has a bigger heart and that cares about the pet not your pocket. (So much that they care about animals but look they are willing to let them die because we dont have the right amount of money.) BAD PLACE FOR ANIMALS more

Jack died 8/20/2008

I was served with a cease and desist order by their attorney in regards to a review on another web site. So this review has been carefully worded and is based only on the medical record that I had to pay for and my own opinions. \r On 7/5 Jack had a root canal performed at a local dentist. Jack's medical history has included a total hip replacement, so he has a foreign object in his body. \r On 7/13 Jack's leg, the one that has a pin in it from the hip, swelled rapidly. It was after office hours for his family Vet so I brought him to the hospital. Jack was on antibiotics provided by the dentist and I gave those to the hospital. \r On 7/14 the Vet performed a fine needle aspiration. I believe this was to check for bacteria in the site of inflammation. (Note that this is my opinion based on expert reports) I have asked for the lab results for this test, but have not been given them. Again remember that I paid for a FULL copy of Jack's medical record. \r In the documented communications on 7/ more

expensive, but worth it! 8/11/2008

after being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, our local vet referred us to angell with our doberman. past experience with angell, brought back memories of $$$. that being said, working with their cardiology department has been such a pleasure. the hospital is state of the art, clean, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. everyone we have encountered has been friendly, compassionate, always insuring your pet is relaxed, and when taken out of the room for x-rays or tests, brought right back to their owner, not to stress them out further. i can't say enough about Dr. Laste and her staff. phone calls, emails, test results, are always given in a timely manner, and we feel very fortunate that our dog is under such quality care. as far as an emergency clinic, and specialists, you can't find a better place. more

Outstanding skill and also caring 7/28/2008

I have two adult dogs, each who have had significant medical issues over the years. Consistently the care at Angell has been top notch. Most recently one of our dogs, a yellow lab, had an acute cardiac and respiratory crisis. We did not think she would make it through. Within a few days of critical care hospitalization, she was stabilized and discharged home. The follow up care with Cardiology has been excellent. Besides positive experiences with Cardiology and Emergency/Critical Care, we've been equally impressed and pleased with Orthopedic Surgery (knee surgery) and Opthamology. I work in healthcare and continue to be amazed at the high quality -- high tech and compassionate -- care given to my pets. I sometimes think the care at Angell is better than the people hospitals in Boston. While it is expensive to provide such thorough and competent care, it's worth the price when I see the benefits in the wellbeing of my canine children. more

poor service 5/28/2008

Our dog has been going to Angell for his routine medical care for over 12 years. While it is the major animal hospital in the area with many specialties, we find the service there increasingly poor in quality. With the opening of the new clinic, the cost went up dramatically (almost double) while the care we receive is the same if not worse, since now we have to talk to the assistant first before our pet will be seen by the doctor. This practice lengthens the waiting time and increases the anxiety of the patient, which does not help his/her care at all. The time it might save for the doctor is quite questionable, as the doctors appear to have the same time slots for their appointments. more

Mixed Review After Two Visits 5/5/2008

After making two separate visit to Angell Memorial Hospital, I would say the place is mediocre. My first visit was in August of 2006 when my cat who was almost 15 had thrown up three times in a week and her regular vet was on vacation. I was told that she was dehydrated and would need injections of subcutaneous fluids daily. I was unable to do this, so I was told a technician would come daily to do this for me. However, it would cost $10 per day. I phoned the technician, but she never called back at a time when I could be reached. When my cat's vet returned from vacation, he took a look at her and said she would stay hydrated enough with just free access to water. She fought for another year and continued to bite the vet when he came. They had a unique relationship! A year later, my cat developed tumor and I had to put her to sleep. I got a new kitten to replace her just days later and she was sick from the beginning. She was vomiting and having diarrhea beginning on the fi more
