We purchased an new couch, love seat and recliner on Monday and were told that we would have it the new afternoon. The delivery charge was $75.00. We were told that existing furniture would be removed from the room and taken away to donate (if in good shape) for an additional $25.00. We had a friend (who had just purchased his first house) come and take the couch and love seat that we were replacing. My husband and I moved a large recliner that we were replacing to the center of the room and cleaned carpet and walls in preperation for the new furniture. The salesman had said that the delivery men would relocate any furniture to another room as needed. When the furniture was delivered, the delivery men said that they would expect a TIP to move the recliner through the kitchen and into the attached garage (20 feet+-)!! As the young man who was to pick up the recliner had not been able to come and get it yet and we had been told that the delivery men would move it for us, we did not feel that a tip would be appropriate---we paid for delivery!! Had I not been so upset, I would have had them work around the chair and it would have been very much more time consuming for them to put the new furniture in place. As it was, my Husband and I moved the large recliner to the garage as the delivery guys looked on!!!! I am pushing 60 and my husband is 67 and has heart issues. My Husband called and talked to our salesman and they have had this issue before with the delivery man who seemed to be in charge. I hope that anyone who reads this and purchases from this store is not taken in by the delivery man scam!!!! I hope the furniture holds up! If it does not, I will write another review for it!! It looks good and seems well built and the price was good after negotiation!! more

I just moved down here to go to school. We were able to furnish my whole apartment, although small, from just this one store. Bedroom, living room and kitchen table. Delivery was just $50 dollars. I don't know if this is the standard rate for down here, but up north it would have been a minimum of $100.00. They delivered it and set it up! We bought a sofa and love seat from American Furniture Warehouse 14 months ago. We did not buy the cheapest set in the store, we picked out a mid-priced set. The set has held up great over the last year and we DO have two kids that jump on it constantly. The sales staff were friendly and helpful, but not pushy. We put the furniture on layaway and were told to give them 2-3 weeks notice before we wanted to pick up the furniture so they could make sure it would be in stock. We asked what their refund policy was in case we changed our mind before we had paid in full. We were told they did not give refunds. Only store credits. A sign was posted stating this. The furniture arrived when we needed it and they delivered it from Greensboro to Burlington for only a $50 fee which we thought we very reasonable considering the cost of gasoline at the time. They also showed up for the delivery exactly at our scheduled time. Furniture is an expensive purchase which you should not rush into without knowing the store's policies. All of which we were made aware of at the time of our purchase and we had no problems. Pros: good prices Cons: no refunds if we had changed our minds more

The prices are great but be careful dont have anything delivered. I purchased a LR set that was gorgeous and requested delivery. Once the furniture arrived the set looked the same but was cheaply made. Absolutely nothing like the display. I discovered when cleaning the furniture that the staples used to cover the frame were sticking out - very dangerous. So if you put your hand down between the cushions to find - say a pen or change you dropped- you could seriously injur yourself. The wood frame on the chase broke after only a few months- and I dont jump on my furniture and I have no little kids - go figure. Also during this same time I noticed the stitching on the pillows (attatched to the frame) was coming unravelled just from light cleaning I guess. I thought the furniture quality was not up to snuff so I went back to the store to check it out and sure enough the in store display was much better quality no visible staples or open stitches to come unravelled !!! I guess you get what you pay for (should've known it was too good to be true!) If I couldve given it 1/2 a star I would've. ( I felt so cheated when I left but had no proof) Pros: Huge selection Cons: What you see may not be what you get!! more

I really like the furniture at American Furniture Warehouse. They have a huge selection and I can always find something that I like. However, the quality is not of the highest. You get what you pay for! It is good, but not great! Sometimes the salespeople are a little pusy, but you just have to let them know you are looking and not always buying! more

We went to American Furniture for some new items for our home. The salesmam was very competent and helpful. The prices were reasonable. I was pleased with the quality and delivery was possible immediately! more

American Furniture has a huge selection of good quality furniture. They have all types of furniture at good prices. The sales reps aren't too pushy and will let you just look around. more

i just recently had a bad experience with this company. first of all,when you go in there they don't speak and they act like they don't want to serve you. i went in on Jan. 16, 09. to put a living room set on lay a way. 3 weeks later on feb. 3, 09, i paid for it in full. i decided to pick up the furniture myself as oppose to them delivering it. To my surprise, here they come with a display model after i have paid full price for what i thought was suppose to be a 'brand new"" set. I asked them i thought i was getting a brand new set, the salesperson said it is brand new. No it is not because it is a display model from the floor. Supposedly, if you put something in lay-away you have to call 3 weeks in advance to make sure they have the merchandise in stock so they can place an order. I came in to pick it up on a sunday ( feb. 8, 09) i paid for it five days before picking it up. they didn't even bother to call and tell me they didn't have anymore in stock or that i needed to call ahead of time. so if i paid for it on the 3rd and they sold out of it, common sense would be to place an order for it or even hold the last one. so please DO NOT purchase anything from this company. they are unprofessional and unorganized. trust and believe i will be calling corporate office on them. more

I ordered a sofa and loveseat on a Sunday and was having it delivered the next Saturday. They were an hour late with the delivery and it was not even the set I had ordered. The manager said that he thought I was aware of the switch because the salesman, Brian, had told them that he had called and talked to me and that I was okay with getting a different set. This was an outright lie that the salesman told. They had a week to tell me that the set was out of stock, but no one bothered to call me during that week. So, if you still decide to shop there, just don't use Brian as your salesman. Pros: Large Variety Cons: Bad Customer Service more

If there was a ""negative"" star rating these people would deserve it. This is the WORSE company I have ever dealt with in my 50 years of life. PLEASE read the other negative reviews (see above). Had I done so, I would not be out nearly $1500. I am having a billing investigation filed through American Express. These people delivered the wrong and damaged furniture. Customer service is impossible: they either don't accept your calls and if they do they tell you they will correct the problem (but fail to do it) or they tell you (within two hours of a previous phone call) that they did not speak with you and that you must be mistaken or that you must have ""spoken with another person"". They have lied to us so many times and have failed to keep their promises to correct the problem that after three weeks of phone calls we have given up and turned the whole matter over to American Express. Caveat emptor (buyer beware!): do not be fooled by low prices. You would be better off spending a little more at Ashley Furniture and saving yourself the headaches. This is a company that preys on the underclass, unsuspecting or poorly informed. You have been warned! more

We recently purchased furniture for our home at American Furniture Warehouse and were treated great. Their customer service is extra ordinary as well as their prices are exceptional. We saved BIG DOLLARS!!!! Their sales staff were professional and their Delivery Team were the best of the best. We highly recommend American Furniture Warehouse to everyone who is looking to purchase furniture. these people are thieves stay away one week after i gave them 850 dollars as a deposit i realized i needed the Cons: thats what they are more

I went to purchase some furniture here even though i had been told by others to stay away because management is not very receptive to customers. I paid for the items, they didn't have them. The manager continuously hung up on me and refused to refund my money. The charges are still being disputed through American Express. I filed a complaint with the local business department and the manager stated I was unpleasant. Interesting considering he just hangs up on me when I try and talk to him. I know someone who has an outstanding issue that hasn't been resolved in three years with this company. Whatever you do, do not be fooled by the low prices and good looking furniture. Everything I bought from there I found cheaper at Ashley furniture for cheaper. They promise to take care of you and won't hang up on you when you call. Do not purchase from this location under any circumstances. Pros: Large selection of affordable furniture Cons: It doesn't matter how good the price is if you can never get it and they refuse to help you. more
