We had a slow leak under our sink so we called Albert Nahman Plumbing to stop the leak. We told the plumber that we thought the leak was coming from the hose connection with our dishwasher but weren't sure. The plumber was very polite and spoke with confidence. He told us that there was corrosion in an adjacent pipe because there was an iron pipe connected to a copper pipe. He spent an hour re- connecting the pipes in a very professional manner and then gave us a bill for $250. But the slow leak was still there the next day. A week later we called the plumber again and they sent a very nice and confident plumber to fix the problem. She explained to us that the problem was most likely due to faulty caulking around the faucet so she re-caulked the area and told us that there would be no charge, which was very nice. But the next day the leak was still there. So, Albert Nahman sent a third plumber to fix the problem. He was very nice and professional and explained to us that the problem was most likely due to a faulty hose connection to the dishwasher, my original hunch. He then gave us a quote for an additional $250 to replace the hose connector. We protested the fee and were able to bargain him down to only an additional $199. The next day we celebrated success. Our leak was fixed for $450 and three plumber visits. Next time we have a plumbing problem I will think twice about calling Albert Nahman, plumbers. The cost of this repair and the hassle involved with three visits was outrageous. more

Had a leaking water heater that coming into the house. I called on a Sunday and was able to actually talk to someone. Had the inspection the next day and on Tuesday I had a new water heater. The plumbers arrived on time and kept me updated by phone during the day. The cost of the new water heater was very reasonable. I now have a new plumber to call when I need plumbing service. more

I have been using Nahman for my many and varied plumbing problems for 20 years. I have always been pleased. Nahman stands behind its work. By now I must have met at least 10 different workmen and have always found them highly competent. I especially value their willingness to thoroughly explain what and why they are doing an installation or a procedure . And while their professional competence is the most important consideration in hiring them, I also place great importance on how utterly unbureaucratic the company is. That goes for the people who work the phones as well as the plumbers. Without exception they relate to the customer with respect and good cheer. I consider them one of the best long-time companies of any sort in Berkeley, a real asset to the community. more

Hired Albert Nahman to come install a Rinnai tankless / on-demand water heater at my home. Since that moment, we have had nothing but issues and I can't believe that these positive Yelp reviews are primarily made up of fake accounts as there were just too many issues to assume that they normally get it right. The price to hire Albert Nahman was literally twice as much as other plumbers but they promised they could do the job right away, so I hired them. Unfortunately, they didn't honor their word and I could have had the same exact job done by another Rinnai authorized plumber for half the price. Here are some of the many issues we encountered (I should note that to date the system is still not functioning as promised and the owner has been on vacation): - Job promised to happen on a Friday. Due to "emergencies" at Albert Nahman, they cancelled on us and rescheduled for following Wednesday. - Job was promised to take no more than 2 days. It has already taken 3 FULL days and their are still issues. - Job was not done correctly. Plumbers didn't know how to properly install the system and made a few very big mistakes. #1: They didn't connect the system to my existing hot water recirculating pipes. Oops! #2: They forgot to take out some of the packaging plugs/caps and the system kept turning itself off. They had to send a tech out the following day and he found they had closed up the device without properly installing it. We had no hot water from afternoon of one day to following day when they figured out what they did wrong. #3: Yet another day we had no hot water (for 2 days total) because of a faulty earthquake shutoff that they installed on the side of our house. - Plumbers were promised at 8:30am on 2nd day of install. I received an email confirming it. Then the night before I received a call saying it would be 9:30am arrival. At 9:45am I contacted the company and finally at 10:30am (1 or 2 hours late, depending on how you look at it), the plumbers finally arrived. Needless to say, this negatively impacted my work day. - The plumbers literally drove their van into a garbage can that was in front of house for trash day, and they didn't bother to pick it up. They also dragged our recycling can on top of our plants so they could better park their van. When I saw the can knocked over and the other one killing the plants, I reviewed our home surveillance system and verified it was them. - We now hear the machine turning on & off and I am awoken in the morning to the sound of water continuously rushing through my walls. From my home office - where I sit now - I can hear the machine humming and can also hear water rushing through the walls. Our previous recirculating system was quiet and I can't help but wonder if they messed up yet another component during the install of the machine. I should note they told me I would not hear the machine. - Recognizing the job was not (and still is not) done correctly - and issues were still outstanding - we received an email asking if they could charge our card for $7,000+ to pay the balance for the install of the system. I wrote back in no uncertain terms that they were NOT authorized to charge my card as the job was not complete. Regardless, they charged my card. When I called the company to ask about what happened, they apologized and promised to refund it. A few days later it hadn't been refunded and I called again and was told that the owner "Albert" did not authorize them to refund it and he should have called me last week, which he didn't. Apparently he is now on vacation. So...long story short, I would strongly advise getting another reputable plumbing company to give you a quote for whatever job you're looking to do. You'll definitely save yourself some $$$ and you may also save yourself from a headache. Good luck!! more

After listening and carefully observing situation of clogged drain, technician Jason, promptly went to work and unclogged the drain. He was calm, professional and neat. I trusted his analysis of the problem and what could be done to solve it. more

I bought a place within a townhouse association, and I had not realized that it did not have a shower. I called around for different plumbing services, and Albert Nahman was the only place that responded. I had heard about them at the university, so I setup an appointment. Gabriel came out to give me an estimate, which I was pleased with. They did a very good job. They had to deal with the city, and the association on several occasions for me because a lot of work needed to be done, and they had to make sure it was okay. Talk about team work! They also had a cheerful disposition, which was a delight and a rare asset in their business. While they were doing the shower for me, they also installed a new toilet and found some issues with my pipes. One of the pipes under my sink had rotted and begun to leak, but they took care of it for me. I told them I wanted a top of the line faucet to replace the old sink, and that's what they did for me-nice and new! There was also an issue with my gas stove, and when I went to the townhouse association for help, they did not know what the problem was; so I called Albert Nahman. One of their service people showed me that all the stove needed was to be cleaned, and they did it for me. Working with them is always a pleasure. Gabriel is such a good representative of their business. He always sticks to the price he quotes. I also like that they have women doing a lot of this work! The next big house project I will do will be to install a new gas tank and water heater- I will be using Albert Nahman of course. more

Our issue, was a total blockage of pipes - sinks, toilet, tub - everything was blocked! Nathan came at the designated time. He was courteous, friendly and most importantly - Professional. Within a few hours he not only identified the problem (root growth in the pipes), but he gave us an accurate estimate and time for correcting the issue. Our eight year old son even got to view his work which was a great life lesson! In conclusion, you will not be disappointed. Chris was extremely knowledgeable about what he was doing, had instant telephone access to specific experts when he ran into something he wasn't absolutely certain about, explained everything he was doing to me and had a very professional demeanor. Albert Nahman Plumbing and Heating really know what they are doing! First of all, they identified a problem in our plumbing years ago but we had to delay the project. Recently, however, there was a leak and we decided to address the whole problem. They gave the same estimate as a few years ago, did great work, and the drain that didn't work before now drains! more

A plumber is a plumber, right? Toilet runs, sinks back up, something called lateral sewage lines. You hire someone and pay alot and the issue is over. How many times in building my home did I say "If I worked like these guys, I'd be fired." But then I stumbled on Nahman's Plumbing. This company is run like I would run a business. Responsive and solid. The owner is on top of every detail, scary. But the feeling of a smart owner at the helm makes one heck of a difference in who I will call from now on.
