Zachary's is fresh pizza but very bland. I'd put it at the bottom of the list in Chicago. Pizza in Chicago centers on quality and taste to distinguish their pizza as the best. Zac...

Take away a deep dish pizza for home dining 5/12/2006

We get a Zachary's deep dish cheese pizza every Tuesday night and are never disappointed. The pizza is always great and so is the service. All of the employees are friendly and very service oriented. Thanks! Pros: pizza, service, friendlliness Cons: parking more

Had heard so many good things... 8/9/2005

Went last night to Zachary's for the first time after hearing that it was the best in the bay area. Was very excited to walk in and be seated right away (a Monday night). Ordered a 4 topping deep crust pizza from the blunt waitress... While waiting I could not talk to my partner over the loudness in the place. When I moved my chair closer I was rudely asked to move back as i was blocking the way(but all the extra ""pizza stools"" were allowed to be there!) Then the pizza. While it was good, I too had a difficult time finding the ingredients that we ordered. The gobs of sauce on top overpowered the entire thing. The crust was good, and overall flavor decent, but nothing special. Pros: Lcation, God crust Cons: blunt/rude waitstaff, Loud, stingy ingredients more

Thin/Stuffed 6/23/2005

I went to Zachary's for a deep dish but naive Californians, my bf and I ordered a thin crust vs. the stuffed crust. We thought the stuff crust was like Pizza's hut, where they load up the crust with cheese inside. We were disappointed we didn't get to try the deep dish but the thin crust was the BEST we've ever had. Toppings were tasty and the crust was crispy and delicious. We're going back for the deep crust next time but didn't regret trying out the thin crust. Pros: Great pizza, Great service Cons: Not off of freeway, Parking more

A Chicago Pizza Lover Deeply Disappointed.... 2/19/2005

Having read all the rave reviews I was disappointed in my experience; having ordered a 5 ingredient deep dish only to have to ask the waitress if the order was taken incorrectly -as my wife and I couldn't find the mushrooms nor pepperoni - could you believe the waitress, with her knife and fork, had to search along with us and say ""there they are"" - that makes for a very sad experience - while your pizza get smothered with loads of tomatoe chunks we found found a complete lack of adequate ingredients...good luck.. more

Closest's you'll get to NY or Chicago! 1/20/2005

I'm from New York so ofcourse I'm not going to think any pizza from California is good (and trust me I've gone to plenty of pizza joints in the Bay Area). I tried Zackery's pizzeria in Rockridge about 5 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It was really good! The only thing I was surprised was the price. A ""pie"" of pizza was a lot more expensive than what I would pay for in New York City! But if you are in the area and want a good pizza - you HAVE to go to Zachary's (regardless of the price). Pros: near BART, good quality pizza Cons: , limited parking, a bit overpriced more

A taste of Chicago in Berkeley... 12/31/2002

For a major city, the Bay Area plays host to far too many horrible pizzerias. Zachary's is truly an exception. It's deep-dish pies hold their own against Gino's East and the rest of Chicago's finest. Now if only someone could open a place that mirrored New York's finest pies... more

best pizza in CA 10/26/2002

This is way more than pizza. For highest entertainment value, hang out near the kitchen and watch. The ambience is not worth talking about, aside from the mostly wry, intelligent staff that make being there fun. The wait is always long, and it's almost always loud, so I tend to get my pizzas to go. Which I do probably weekly. It's cash only, and there's no delivery; they don't provide those conveniences because they don't have to. The pizza is just that good. more

just bad 10/10/2002

First of all the flat pizza is easily the worst in the country - it has no flavor and terrible texture. The dep dish gives deep dish a bad name. I don't understanfd why this place gets so crowded. Bad sauce, bad service, and bad prices. more

The Best! 9/30/2002

It's awesome!!! The best pizza ever!!! I don't like pizza very much because it's very greasy and too much cheese. Pizza from Zachary's is different. A thick layer of tomato on top is very fresh and juicy. I tried the spinach and mushroom pizza. It tastes perfect even there's no meat! I love the crust as it's very cruchy. Pros: Inexpensive more

No comparison 9/25/2002

This is the best pizza since the Windy City Pizza Pub blew in and out of the Bay Area. The Chorizo and pepper pizza is unbelievable and you just cannot get tired of it. Once a week is most definitely not enough. Great staff. Friendly, colorful atmosphere, and where else can you really enjoy a glass of red wine out of plastic cup? Pros: good value, great food, fun staff Cons: must wait in line more
