Best

Every time I have to meet someone special, I make it here. Very nice place.

Worst

If you're into fancy decorative appetizers and don't mind overpriced menu items, you'll have no problem with this place (it *does* have a trendy / hip atmosphere). For me, payin...

cool little spot 12/1/2007

my girlfriend loved it. went in last night, the last day in november ( our anniversary) and had great service and and fantastic time. thanks. Pros: good waitress more

best in attentive service! 11/24/2007

the best thing about this bar is the cunning, pretty cocktail servers who never fail to charm.\r great experience, nothing like this in my hood. more

this guy has no idea what he is talking about. 6/26/2007

I forced myself to sit down and write something about my favorite bar-- the sitting room,\r in response to the absolute BS (LIES!) spewed forth below. Neither of the owners of the sitting room are male bartenders, not to mention how unbelievably offensive the term ""hook nose"" is and how very inappropriate anti-semitic references such as those are at this day & age (especially in this arena! shame on you!!)\r the sitting room is a darling place to get a drink and a snack ( happy hour hoeggarden 3.5, happy hour tapenade 3.5= $7+ tip & i am a happy man!)\r it is also a great place to bring a lady. My girl loves the Chartreuse cocktail infused with fresh thyme or a summery sage greyhound. never fails to impress.\r The stupid rants of some bitter, crazy person should not keep you from this charming, classy, affordable little joint. I would truly regret if I had never come across the sitting room. stop in for a conversation with an attractive waitress, or for a ""to die for ' dark chocolate dessert--you won't regret it. CHARMING! Pros: hot drinks, hot folks, good beer Cons: hopefully you don't run in to freaks like this guy. more

craving some sitting room cheese! 5/10/2007

mmmmm.....that triple cream! mild yet so rich and delicious.\r i cannot stop thinking about happy hour at the sitting room.\r my server let me know also that they now have hoeggarden on draught! hooray.\r this is my favorite spot for sunshine. the garage door rolls up and all of my worries escape like the brisk breeze.\r the pomegranate cosmo is to die for.\r the servers/bartenders are classy and cute and calm.\r i love the eensy weensy little pearls of fresh mozzeralla on the bruschetta and the pear relish accompanying the pate.\r so unique and sacred. i covet the romance of the it. go check it out!!! Pros: check it out for happy hour!!! gets busy, bustling atmosphere during later hours Cons: i'm supposed to be losing lbs. not gaining (CHEESE!) for swimsuit season, check out the salads! more

oh what a sensuous little spot! 4/18/2007

since spring has ushered in its bright blooms, clear albeit cold weather, and long stretches of evening, \r i have stopped in to one of my all-time favourite bars, The Sitting Room, on far too many an occasion.\r mostly for their spectacular happy hour and divine/delightful decor, i ease into my evening enjoying the play of early-spring light off of my $4 glass of crimson cotes-du-rhone.\r as the night progresses at this fresh & cheery cafe/bar the crowd always seems to thicken, the candlelight creating a mysterious & seductive sort of ambiance for all of us to mix to.\r always lots of dates & an eclectic array of drinkers/diners, so depending on your mood one may enjoy bringing a book, a beautiful ally, or an intimate entourage of family members because all are sure to enjoy!\r \r the service is swift, yet unhurried, capturing that oh-so-french mood of the leisurely cafe. the peppercorn & pork pate, fresh spring greens salads, bold & bright rioja and elegantly adorned cheese boards are great for noshing on with lovers. the whole mood is magically unobtrusive yet divinely recherche.\r \r i want to compliment my server last time on his graceful & coy presence amongst the confusion of my irritable/irrational work party...\r he was creative and calm in his ability to be speedy, savvy, & non-obtrusive sans pretension .\r bravo to this little beauty of a bar!!!\r \r Pros: creative cocktail concoctions, to die for cheeses always please!, service savvy Cons: tiny, sometimes quiet--sometimes loud, difficulty finding street parking more

Don't come here hungry or poor 3/6/2007

If you're into fancy decorative appetizers and don't mind overpriced menu items, you'll have no problem with this place (it *does* have a trendy / hip atmosphere). For me, paying nearly $10 for a sprite and a mediocre (at best) bowl of soup is too much - especially when we're not waited on the entire time (maybe the soft drinks aren't refillable?). The second time I tried this place (at the request of my friends) we went family style on the happy hour appetizers . I was hoping that maybe I'd miss something the first time, but this time I left having spent more money, and still feeling like I hadn't started dinnner. I like gourmet meals, but bland crackers, a couple slivers of cheese, and decorative olives doesn't do it for me. \r \r In fairness, two of my friends think this place is great - to each their own. Pros: hip / trendy Cons: very little food for unreasonable prices more

best when it comes to ambiance. 3/3/2007

this is my absolute favourite bar of the moment. \r chill yet never boring. the scene is always very different, night to night, moment to moment.\r a good place to bring a book, a date, a hot foriegn friend visiting for the weekend, an attitude,\r or an avid desire to people watch.\r the servers are all hot. our group's server last night was named Elizabeth and she just glowed as she described the selection of cheeses (and then later...the tantalizing bourbon sauce that would drench our bread pudding! YUM!) \r My boyfriend told me later that he wouldn't mind drenching her in whiskey sauce, anyday, anytime, anyplace. I did not even care, It didn't really faze me. I was still in such a pleasant mood thanks to such a well done dining experience.\r BRAVO! Pros: hotties, french hotties, public pda's,cocktails in every colour of the season, comfy couches Cons: parking! public pda's! small and stuffy at times. more

A Wonderful Place To End The Evening 3/1/2007

My boyfriend and I dropped in after the ballet earlier this month just looking to extend the the evening. We found instead the perfect place to relax, drink a nice glass of wine, and talk about the performance. We both commented on how it felt as though we were lost somewhere in Europe as we nibbled through the cheese plate. A definite Recommend. more

Loud with Uncomfortable Seating 2/12/2007

OK, I listened to the reviews here and arranged to meet a date at this place under the assumption that it was quiet, comfy, and with romantic ambience. In reality it was extremely loud with obnoxious music, had terribly uncomfortable seating of old torn apart theater chairs, way overpriced wine, and we had to practically yell into each others ear to be heard. This was a huge disappointment. Pros: Excellent bartender service - kind staff Cons: Ultra loud - uncomfortable seating - price vs value of wine more

Lucky to have them in my neighborhood 12/10/2006

They have a hendricks gin and cucumber puree cocktail that is so refreshing. The atmosphere is great and thre happy hour is awesome with half of house wine ( cote de rhone). There are also great bar snacks and soup dejour Pros: everything Cons: clientel has ben a little yuppish a few tmes more

Best happy hour in Queen Anne 11/26/2006

I recommend happy hour at the Sitting Room to everyone I meet. You would never just run into it, since it's set back on the west side of Roy Street. But it's really a unique venue in Seattle. Happy hour goes until 7 pm which is uncommonly extensive for happy hour sessions around here. I'm a wine and small plates person, and the Sitting Room is ideal for that. They have a nice wine list, but I usually stick with the house wine at happy hour prices (both the red and white are quite tasty). I have to agree with others in this reviews section that they have one of the best cheese plates...every cheese they offer is quite different from the other so you get a really varied selection. If you want some choice nibbles without spending too much, the olives, cheese plate, smoked salmon plate and tapenade are very satisfying. They have a nice array of salads and several other options on their appetizers menu. The room is spacious with a European air without being at all pretentious. The wait staff has always been very inviting and considerate. I've never had a bad experience with service there, and I've been there a number of times, as it's my top-choice neighborhood happy hour spot. Pros: Affordable happy hour prices, consistently good food and excellent service Cons: Parking more

Great for hanging out 9/17/2006

The Sitting Room is very nicely-named because it's seriously like my living room, I'm so at home and comfortable there. Bright and airy. with comfy seats and not-too-expensive drinks and food. I come for happy hour and never want to leave. Pros: Parking lot (rare for Queen Anne), lovely cocktails, amazing cheese plate Cons: Pricy for dinner, hard to snag a prime seat sometimes more

Best Cheese Plate in Town! 9/12/2006

I absolutely love this place, girls night out or a romantic date you can't go wrong. No where in Seattle can you find friendlier wait staff, a casual yet romantic atmosphere paired with very fine dining! The cucumber martini is full of flavor and great on a hot summer night out on their open candle lit porch. The food in innovative and the wine list is fairly good and reasonably priced. The only down fall is the parking, $3 across the street in the lot is worth it! more

hot date spot 3/8/2006

i have gone to the sitting room the 2 times in recent weeks, both times on dates and I have been so delighted by the atmosphere, service, and elegance of the bar. The bar is not pretentious, instead it is both laid back and high class. The service was first-rate--attentive, yet not fussy or fake. I enjoyed a delicious brazilian caipiruva, a salad with organic bacon and bleu cheese, and deliciously rich chocolate cake delicately drizzled with raspberry sauce and adorned with a fluff of freshly whipped cream. Pros: lighting, servers, atmosphere Cons: music, parking more

Fun little place 10/12/2005

The sitting room had a decent beer list, but I would love to see more variety and more changes, it has been the same beer list for a long time. Change is good and keeps thing interesting. Cozy little spot that is fun to stop in for a app and drinks. Parking is terrible. The staff is not the nicest and they can make you feel uncomfortable. Most of the time it seems that they don't want to deal with you. The staff has been a big factor in us not going there more often. Pros: Cozy, drinks Cons: Staff is rude, Parking more

Gotta Check It Out 9/19/2005

This place is the perfect mix of atmosphere, food and drink. Wonderfully cozy. Full of European ambience! Pros: Atmosphere, Staff, Inventive Cocktails Cons: Smoking more

Cheese board and wine!! 10/2/2004

The menu says 3 selections of cheese, but it's sometimes 4 and they rotate the selections regularly. The Wine Salami & Cornichons w/ the cheese plate can easily serve as a meal for 3-4 people. Plus it matches perfectly w/ the drink menu! The leader I would have to say is the Pomegranate Mojito...but being a traditonal gal, I love their dirty martini (or on special occasion the Framboise Martini). 1/2 carafe of house wine is ALWAYS a good bet. Love this place! Pros: Neighborhood, DRINKS, FOOD more

What atmosphere! 7/12/2004

I have been going to The Sitting Room over the past few weeks, and I feel like I could curl up into a little ball I'm so cozy and comfortable. The wait staff is right there when you need something, but doesn't hover so that you feel like you're being watched. Oh, and their pomegranate mojito is AWESOME. So chill, yet so chic. Great music mix, and not to noisy or crowded! I love it and recommend it to all of my friends! Pros: atmosphere, not to busy more

a hidden gem! 2/18/2004

We recently moved to the Queen Anne neighborhood, and have recently discovered this hidden gem! The Sitting Room is tucked away on West Roy in the On the Boards Performance Arts Center. Its pale orange fresco-like walls, candlelit marble tables, sultry electronic beats, and antique zinc bar create a European cafe/bar ambiance unlike any place we've ever seen in Seattle. They recently began serving cocktails; which are highly recommended, especially the Basiica and the Chartreuse Cocktail. The food is very good too, and reasonably priced. We found the service both friendly and relaxed. Looking forward to our next visit! Pros: great ambiance, tasty menu, unique cocktails Cons: , closed mondays more

Good Salads 2/17/2004

Having come there for a lite bite and dessert, we were very pleased with the fig salad and cornichons appetizers. When we arrived we asked about when the kitchen would close and were told it was closing in about an hour. We specificially told our server that we were there for dessert but then the service was so slow we almost missed it as we were told again that the kitchen would be closing soon. (I felt a little underserved at this point) Dessert was very dissappointing. There was a chocolate ganache cake on the menu board, but the server asked if we could substitute for a molten chocolate cake. It turned out tasting like it was made from a mix. The pear tart was very bland and textureless. I hope the desserts are improved because I think Seattle needs a good dessert and drinks spot. more
