Best

Every time I have to meet someone special, I make it here. Very nice place.

If you're into fancy decorative appetizers and don't mind overpriced menu items, you'll have no problem with this place (it *does* have a trendy / hip atmosphere). For me, payin...

Cozy neighbourhood bar 10/15/2009

Cozy, continental atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and drink! Having immensely enjoyed over a dozen convivial evenings at The Sitting Room over the past 3 years, we have only praise for this bar. The Happy Hour is a great value and the food and drink is of excellent quality. The Stella is cold and fresh. and we are always greeted warmly by the friendly bartender and the owner. If only we had such a place in our neighbourhood in Vancouver, BC! Pros: Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere Cons: It's not in our neighbourhood! more

Beautiful, quiet and romantic 8/5/2009

I have been going to The Sitting Room for about a year now and it is still one of my favorite bars in Seattle. The name is exactly what you should expect here: A place to sit, chat, relax and enjoy the company of those around you... The food is always amazing and while it may be a little more expensive than the sliders and endless tots you're used to what you get is infinitely more pleasurable. The employees have all been there as long as I have been going there which really says something about a place. The owner is an amazing, friendly man and is there every day when the bar opens. The employees are all extremely friendly, outgoing and easy-going which is exactly what I look for in a place that is supposed to be about good food, good drinks and good company to enjoy it all with. I'll keep coming here. more

A great place, usually 4/26/2009

I've been going to the Sitting Room for about 8 months, since I moved from the U-dist. to Queen Anne. I always found the place to be charming, with great drinks and eats. Great servers and bartenders-most who have been there for years. I was there last night-it was a sat. and I witnessed some of the trashiest behavior I have ever seen. A group of people celebrating a party took up half the room and kept trying to order coors light, vodka red-bull, sliders and french fries. The Sitting Room is NOT that kind of place. White trash orders aside, they were pushy, rude and insulting to their waitress who has served me many times and I found to be sweet and very helpful with the foood and drink specials. This poor girl-(sorry server, I can't recall your name but you have red hair and always wear great heels), went through this abuse all night and I can only hope they tipped her enough to have put up with it-though from what I could tell they were too busy disputing the cost of their tabs to get out of paying that they were probably bad tippers as well. We witnessed them take their shoes off and walk around barefoot, sit on the floor, and lick frosting off cupcakes they had brought in and then throw the wrappers and half eaten cakes on the floor! Where are these people from?!? Certainly, not Seattlites. What self respecting Seattle inhabitant would try to order chicken strips and a coors light at a wine bar? Long story short: I hope the next time I'm in the ambiance isn't ruined by WT girls and jack a$$ guys and my friend and I can enjoy our wine and cheese board without the circus. Pros: great food, lovley drinks, excelent service Cons: when people ""trash"" the place. more

Charming place in Lower Queen Anne 2/25/2009

While visiting friends in Seattle last month (I'm from Berkeley, CA) they invited me out to The Sitting Room in lower Queen Anne. We enjoyed the festive atmosphere and delicious appetizers so much on Saturday night we decided to go back again on Monday. This was such a great little place I thought I should help spread the word.\r \r On Saturday, the first thing I noticed was the charming owner, who greeted us at the door and promptly found us a clean table in front. The place was beginning to fill up but his friendly manor seemed to foretell the kind of evening we were to have. Our handsome young waiter patiently answered our questions on the unique small plates menu and he soon filled our table with cocktails (I loved the gin drink with fresh thyme) and tasty dishes that more than satisfied (chorizo with blue cheese & dates, cold-smoked wild salmon, and pate made with free-range nitrate-free pork). The other patrons were obviously having a great time too so the infectious spirit carried us through several more rounds of drinks. \r \r On Monday we were in the mood for a quieter place to have a glass of wine and something to eat and The Sitting Room proved to be that too. Another friendly waitperson (Kelly?) filled our table with a sampling of more delicious small plates (loved the olive selection and the chicken panini with organic greens) that served as our leisurely dinner. I must say that the house red wine was highly drinkable but someone has put some thought into the wine selection as we did some serious tasting. I admit that I was surprised how much I liked the red from Washington state. \r \r I look forward to my next visit to Seattle (this summer) so I can take advantage of the outside seating and enjoy another glass of French wine at a truly unique establishment in one of Seatle's great neighborhoods. Pros: Inexpensive, but totally delicious food and wine, open on Monday. Cons: The ""couch"" was not that comfortable. more

Great Place for an Intimate Party 2/2/2009

I was hosting a birthday party for one of my girlfriends and The Sitting Room was GREAT!! I had first made the reservation for 15, but had to later change it to accommodate 20, and the staff was wonderful about it. When we got there, we had a whole area to ourselves, including a comfy couch and two armchairs. The waitstaff was phenomenally attentive (remembering everyones' names, even) and replaced our drinks and food as quickly as we could finish them. As far as the food, it was all very delicious. The menu on the website is pretty modest, but there were several tasty choices once we got there. The caprese salad was one of the best I've had in Seattle and the bruschetta (ingredients change by the week) was to DIE for. I even had a cake that the waitstaff held in the kitchen until we were ready to unveil it. When it was time, they lit the candles and brought out plenty of plates and cutlery for all. Overall, the night was a HUGE success! There was plenty of room and a down-tempo ambiance perfect for the group of people I was entertaining. Thank you, Sitting Room for a great party!! more

Best Chocolate Martini! 1/9/2009

I have been to the Sitting Room several times and it seems to me that there have been some great improvements recently. The wine list is showing signs that they are trying great new wines and the prices are very affordable. Chocolate Martini yum! The bartenders are cute! I love the atmosphere it is very relaxed and the food is first class. Try the soups. Kelly was a great waitress. She was very personable. Monday night is happy hour all night for us in the industry! more

Awesome bar with great cocktails, food and happy hour to boot! 1/8/2009

The Sitting Room is a great bar with an even greater menu. The drink selection is flush with wines and other cocktails besides the standards. Some are even made with fresh juices , which is definitely a plus for me. I tried a drink with rum and a lychee puree and it was delicious! The atmosphere is warm and inviting but not overwhelming and while I came to the Sitting Room on a Friday night, I will totally return for their happy hour, which looks like a great deal. I am totally in love with this place. Pros: Cocktails, food, happy hour, service more

Best in Queen Anne 10/17/2008

You have to walk inside the SR to find the measure of its true delight. Its a book whose cover is moot when approaching from the street. The air inside is different than any of its neighboring, very distant cousins of Queen Anne nightlife. The staff is as friendly as you want to allow it to be, its din manageable for intimate conversation or enjoyable as what it is if you are without a confabulating partner. The staff is never too intruding but ever amicable and ready to converse, given the signal. I have been coming here for years and it is the one establishment I don't have to think twice about when I have the whim to dip in and tip the dram, especially if it is happy hour, the locals are in and the Newcastle keg is on the ready. more

Seattle's Best Kept Secret 10/11/2008

The Sitting Room is the best. Hip & happening with a European flare. New ownership is now offering early evening and late night happy hour seven days a week. They are also now open until 2am. The new expanded wine list is affordable. The food is light cuisine including soups, salads, pate, smoke salmon, cheese boards, tapenade, bruschettta and dessert but the menu will continue to grow.\r \r The employees are TOP NOTCH!! They even notice when your glass of wine is getting low. The vibe is fun and the regulars are very friendly. \r \r No televisions and great music make it an ideal place to bring a date, hang out with friends or just stop in by yourself and meet new people. Everyone will make you feel at home.\r \r It is a one of a kind and I would be quite surprised to find another space in the city that can match it. Check it out. You will love it. more

the best happy hour and waitstaff. excellent tomato, arugula, pine nut, herb chevre bruschetta. simple, hearty basics with a nice, pleasant backdrop and cute girls. more

Disappointment 4/29/2008

I went to the sitting room for the first time tonight with a friend. We were looking for a glass of wine and some small plates to share. The house red was fine, but the food was a HUGE disappointment. It just wasn't good. I ordered the chevre roasted red pepper spread and a bowl of tomato basil soup. The spread was mediocre at best. You could barely taste the chevre; the red pepper flavor was overwhelming. The tomato soup was the real disappointment. It looked like they poured a can of tomato sauce into a bowl and added some flakes of dried basil. I only ate about 5 bites. I mean, tomato basil soup?? Seems like that should be pretty hard to mess up. I was annoyed at wasting my money (even though it was cheap) and the calories. Both my friend and I agreed we will never go there again, despite the fact that she only lives one block away.\r more

BEST SERVICE IN THIS SIDE OF TOWN! 4/17/2008

Elizabeth is a sweet server and we were very impressed. Very well-schooled in mixology and bartending skills. more

Great little spot 3/31/2008

My husband and I love going to The Sitting Room for happy hour for a couple reasons. First, the drinks are cheap. Second, the happy hour goes from 5-7 and doesn't change depending on ""event nights"" like so many other lower Queen Anne happy hours do. We love the fact that it goes later than most. Third, we can get really yummy tapenade and rosemary crackers for only $4 and a plate of bread and really great dipping oil for free. It actually makes a great light dinner once in a while! We also love going later at night for drinks.\r \r It's a relaxing, fun atmosphere. The only thing I would ever complain about is the slower services. The servers are friendly, but it's a little slow sometimes. Pros: Happy hour, location, atmophere Cons: Slower service sometimes more

Basically the best spot in this part of town. 3/16/2008

Thank you Sitting Room for a great Birthday!\r The party was lively and memorable.\r The service impressive and quick. The server well versed in the details of the drinks and the business.\r Very grateful and pleased by such a pleasant, generous experience.\r Delicious asparagus soup and Kir Martini. Pros: Attentive service and romantic atmosphere. Cons: Off the beaten path. Do not frequent Queen Anne. more

love the sitting room! 3/6/2008

The waitresses are fashionable, not 'uber-trendy' (whoever wrote the bickering review below sounds bitter and just plain lame) and attentive. The service is seems pleasant and natural...\r and the whole scene is stylish and pleasing to the eye.\r The beer, prosciutto, bruschetta, and pretty cocktails are my favorite in town (or at least this part of town!)\r Beautiful drinks and bartenders. more

put me out of my misery! 2/16/2008

If you?re down about the slipping economy, go to The Sitting Room! The price for appetizers vs. the miniscule amount you get, will take you back to the dot-com boom when people had money to burn! Or maybe you?ve always dreamt of being a starving artist in Paris but can?t afford the trip? Go to The Sitting Room! Ten bucks will give you that pauper feel with three little pieces of cheese and five tiny pieces of bread, (asking for butter or olive oil put our uber-trendy female server over the edge).\r \r What about a date going bad? Finish off the night at The Sitting Room ? music so tasteless and loud; the sound of your girlfriend whining at you for the umpteenth time will be sweet relief to the Euro-trash techno. (The next time I went to The Sitting Room, the music was so loud even our server had a pained look on his face as he tried to take our order. We asked if he could turn the music down, thankfully he and the bartender obliged - until later, much to my amazement the owner arrived and the first thing he did was turn the music up! When we asked our server about the noise level, he apologized and explained that the owner likes it lively. I can only assume the owner doesn?t need customers?) \r \r Being the forgiving masochist that I am, I tried The Sitting Room one more time. The issue was a drunk woman next to us, wailing over having just been dumped and left there. I can only assume her boyfriend knew she?d be loud and was looking for the perfect place to camouflage her noise? I still recommend this place though; to people I can?t stand. I like knowing where my enemies are so I don?t run into them!\r Pros: live out starving artist fantasies Cons: expensive, loud, shrill atmosphere more

Great atmosphere 1/7/2008

I've never tasted the food here, we always go for drinks. Service is great - our cups were never dry. The last time we went was a couple of months ago after a Sonics game. Our friends really liked the place. The best thing about it is you can have a conversation, hear every word, but still be able to listen to great music. more

Very NICE. 12/23/2007

nice ambiance.\r swell service.\r this place serves a damn fine manhattan and hot toddy. I went a few months back and the girl bartending served my makers w/ a cherry and a twist, just how I like it ( with no request.)\r She also stuck cloves in my roommate's lemon for her hot toddy, and a sprig of thyme in mine (after the manhattan, that is.)\r I was very impressed by the attention to detail and the warm, dark environment.\r thank you.\r -ROCKY Pros: good bartending. Cons: queen anne can be wierd. more
