Best

I want to work to this place which will make life happening.

Worst

This bar is okay, theres nothing specifically special about it, but the waitress we had was horrible. She wasn't happy with her tips, and didnt understand that to have good tips ...

Pretty Varied 7/31/2003

A lot of different atmospheres combined. Like it because it wasn't very typical. DJ was good but could have taken some chances. Pros: Mixed atmospheres, Nice drinks more

Good Time 7/22/2003

That's what I had, cool DJ and nice drinks and atmosphere. Friends brought me - would go back. Also, really nice couch lounge. Cons: crowded more

Laid back and cool 7/15/2003

Friendly and relaxed. I liked the different rooms. I think they should open the lounge room earlier. Pros: Prices, martinis more

Really Nice 7/11/2003

I went there this past week and the place was mobbed. We waited too long for our drinks, but when we complained they extended the happy hour for our table for an extra half an hour! They explained that they were not expecting to be as crowded as they were and were understaffed. The place is really nice, and at least they made it up to us. Pros: 3 rooms, music more

I LOVE THIS PLACE 7/9/2003

I went to this bar for the first time in December and I loved it, I've went back to NY in April and July and The Fat Black Pussycat was my first stop and will be each time I'm in NY. The Staff is cool and so are the people that go there, the music selection is great because they play a good mix. Its a good place to go hang out with some friends or just with that one (sometimes special) person. -- Z from Orlando, Fl Pros: The Martinis, Music, Atmosphere Cons: front is lil crowded more

great people 7/8/2003

i really enjoy this place because everyone who works there is really nice and you get alot for your money. keep up the good work! Pros: affordable, friendly, good atmosphere more

we love it 7/8/2003

My friends and I love this place. Everyone is really friendly and the drinks are great. and there is so much to do, pool table, darts, dejay, or you can just chill in the lounge. :) Pros: affordable, friendly, comfortable more

great happy hour 7/2/2003

Happy hour is a steal - and the girls are hot! Pros: affordable, great people, good location more

Great lounge space 5/5/2003

The drinks are pricey--but if you're in the mood for a martini and you're in the neighborhood this is the place to be. There's a regular bar in the front, and a very nice sized room in the back for a more loungey experience. Service borders on so-so, but they do get very busy on weekends. Great place during the week--nice and cheap happy hour at the bar. more

Best Happy Hour Ever! 4/13/2003

This is the place to go for happy hour. Everything is half price, and the drinks are big. They even have a DJ for happy hour! Pros: Music Cons: Bathrooms more

Nicest West Village Bar 4/11/2003

This is a welcome change from the other West Village bars. More sophisticated and diverse in crowd and decor. More East Village hip. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the neighborhood. Pros: Good DJ, Beautiful lounge Cons: Bartender Chris more

Where's Ori? 4/11/2003

This is the best bar in the city - only where's that really cute bartender Ori? Really fun place, friendly mixed crowd, GREAT MARTINIS. Pros: Ori Cons: No Ori more

Had a great time 4/10/2003

Just adding my two cents to endorse what's already been written about this great bar. I was early to see a band next door, so I hung out for an hour. A really nice place! more

Bets Happy Hour 4/1/2003

Best happy hour I've ever seen! Everything is half price even their huge martinis. So much better than those get drunk and puke bars in the neighborhood. This bar has a little class. Pros: Friendly, Friendly, Friendly more

Great Bar!!! 4/1/2003

Beautiful, romatic lounge, Pool, D.J. and REALLY BIG DRINKS. Seems to have a little of everything. Really cute sassy asian waitress! Pros: Cool D.J., Big Drinks more

Not Snotty but Friendly. 3/2/2003

This is by far the friendliest bar in the Village - and the coolest. If they were lighting candles it probably means their lounge wasn't open yet. Check this place out. Pros: Nice mixed crowd, Good music, Huge martinis more

Cool space but too snotty 2/15/2003

Very cool place when I first walked in, but then the ridiculous attitude of the staff made it so not worthwhile! Our group was rudely kicked out of the back room so a waitress could light the candles on the tables... although nobody was clear why. Then, magically, at 8pm, selected men had to remove their caps....but only some people were told to remove them by a holier-than-thou bouncer. The bouncer also had issues with people who were standing and forced them to sit!!! It is too bad such a cool space had people with so much attitude...it just detracted from the whole evening Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Attitude, Pompous more

my favorite place for girls nite! 1/16/2003

I love this place. Nobody bothers you, the staff are all nice, and the beer is cheap! It's my regular spot for meeting some of my girlfriends for a ladies night out! Pros: easy to get to Cons: no cover more

Casual, COol, Trendy, FUn All in one.... 1/5/2003

I was getting together (elsewhere)with work friends later in the evening but decided 2 check this place out given the information from this site. Arrivd at 5pm and the bar was full (good sign) of after work & regulars. Hip, Young and the Young at Heart. In the back are tables, small pool table, and dart board if that's your thing. The walls along the ceiling are covered with 8 X 10 black & white photos (some centered most purposely not)of famous faces and people you haven't the slightest clue who they are. Although the lounge room was not yet opened..I peeked in and it was a huge, dim-lit, brick-faced room with what seem like nice couches, pillows, fireplace, etc. The drinks were very reasonable since it was Happy Hour.. Pros: Pool Table, Lounge, Good happy hour Cons: small restroom, lil' pool table space more

gothic is right 12/29/2002

Went on a Saturday night and the front areas were packed. Typical bar scene. The back room, however, like the review below says, was "gothic." Lots of couches (we were able to snag one). Cool place. Would make for a good coffee shop in Amsterdam. Pros: back room very cool, great place to chill Cons: front rooms boring, crowded more

Editorial
  • The Scene On the surface, this bar appears to be just another noisy, crowded after-work or after-school scene. But move beyond the cramped front room and find a casual crowd unwinding in a lively space with wooden booths, quirky wall art and mini table-side TVs. For the real surprise, slip behind a side curtain into a lavish bohemian lounge where would-be couples sink into inviting velvet couches amid Moroccan lanterns. The Draw Plasma TVs, dartboards, Web-access terminals, a jukebox, a pool table--there are enough diversions to occupy even the shortest attention span. The drink selections--beer, cognac, martinis--suit a variety of tastes, and raspberry liqueurs give the bar's namesake drink an appropriately robust flavor. While more obvious choices exist for meeting people and kicking back (or making out), this split-personality feline is ideal for those who want to keep their options open.
