Best

I want to work to this place which will make life happening.

Worst

This bar is okay, theres nothing specifically special about it, but the waitress we had was horrible. She wasn't happy with her tips, and didnt understand that to have good tips ...

Always a great time 5/13/2007

I've always loved this place. Between the great (huge) martinis and the fun dancing at the Village Underground, it's really a pretty unusual vibe. Great mix of atmospheres and the staff is really friendly. If this club was in the Meat Packing District, I think it would be the busiest one on the strip. Great mix of atmospheres. Pros: reasonable prices, trendy, friendly Cons: poor food selection more

Usually pretty good 5/10/2007

I've been coming here for a few years now. Usually we always have a good time. The happy hour special of 1/2 price drinks is a really good deal... yummy flavored martinis at only 4 bucks a pop! Only crappy thing I can really say about the place is there's no where to really sit unless you get there early and can snag a seat at the bar (which then you have to deal with annoying bar patrons constantly hanging over you with their money and screaming their drink order to the bartender) or if you make a reservation for one of the tables in the back. The last time I was there we were chased like crazy from every empty table we attempted to sit at. And none of the tables had a "reserved" sign on them. Got to be annoying so we were forced to stand and get jockeyed around by the hoards of people in the joint. Music is usually decent and I think the DJ is pretty good about requests too. I did have one bad experience with the bouncer for the sister club "Underground" right next door/connected inside. We (mix of guys and gals) got there before 3 of our guy friends did so we told them we'd meet them inside. However, once my 3 friends got there, apparently the bouncer wouldn't let them in for the simple fact that they had no chicks with them. I actually had to come upstairs and talk to the bouncer and vouch for my 3 friends that the rest of our group (including chicks) were downstairs! The bouncer was incredibly rude to me when I was perfectly polite (and NOT drunk) and actually had the nerve to say to me "well if you'll let me explain...", which is all i had asked him to do in the first place, with his hands all up in my face! He eventually let my friends in but it really left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't been back since that night a few months ago. My recommendation would be to stay at the FBPC upstairs and avoid the club downstairs unless you want to deal with over-zealous bouncers who think this is the meat-packing district or something! Pros: Great happy hour deal, close to the subway Cons: over-zealous bouncer at the Underground more

Awesome for weekday happy hour and dancing on the weekends. 4/17/2007

Been going there at least twice a month for the past year (in the summer more like 2-3xweek). Always had a great time. Staff is extremeley nice. Bartenders pour nice drinks. You can't go wrong with the 4-8pm 1/2priced drinks happy hour. On the weekends there's a $5&$10 cover (ladies and gents respectively) for the Village Underground which is a club downstairs with good music, and a co-ed bathroom, which is fun and different :D. Mixed crowd of NYU students, after-work suits, and g-fabulous crowds on the weekend. ***To get in to the FBPC they not only check your ID, but also take a picture.*** Great atmosphere. The lounge part is great, but its really hard to get a couch for yourself, I guess you'd have to get there between 4-5pm... You just can't go wrong with that place. Pros: happy hour, great drinks, HUGE beer selection Cons: can get ridiculously crowded more

Great place to meet friends and drink 4/14/2007

Was there this past Saturday, never been there, and all I can say is this is a great place to meet up with friends. I submitted a request to book a table, management are very prompt/punctual in getting back to your requests and had no problems. Our waitress was very attentive and I believe it was Heather one of the managers checked in with us to make sure there were no problems. This place is very well run, great place to drink, good mixture of people, and I look forward to coming back. ~Leo~ Pros: Good mixture of people, service, Great management/ownership, Cons: none more

Three Distinct Vibes and Good Music 4/12/2007

I've been here for a few happy hours and had a lot of fun. The bar/pub area is kind of loud and roudy, the lounge is chill with cool waiters, and downstairs you can dance and people watch from the couch. Pros: Cool atmosphere, good-looking people Cons: Really loud on weekends more

You're in for a great time. Period!!! 3/30/2007

This was my first visit to this spot after reading the reviews on here and let me tell you, they are not lying. This place is AWESOME!!! Went here for a Friday happy hour. One itty-bitty con is that drinks were NOT 1/2 price on the entire bar as advertised. Instead it was $3 for select beers, rum and vodka. Regardless, $3?? Good enough for me. Get there early to grab a comfy seat in the lounge section while grooving to R&B and oldies. Then, when you're wasted, move to the bar area to order their cheap but REALLY GOOD finger foods. DJ in the bar area was playing back to back 80 and 90's hits that will have everyone grooving. Haven't heard great music like that in a very long time. Definitely one of NYC's happy hour gems. Pros: Ambiance, music, happy hour, food more

Something for everyone!!! 2/19/2007

I went to the Fat black pussycat with 8 of my friends on Friday night. We reserved seating in the Morrocan Lounge area. It was beautifully decorated with red couches and lamps etc. Very intimate feeling. Because we had reserved seating in the lounge they waived our covers for the dance club downstairs. My friends were able to go downstairs and dance, then come back and relax at our table, meanwhile I was playing pool in the next room(regular bar feel) with a few others from my party. We had a 2 drink minimum each for our table, but that was easily done because our waiter was attentive and the cocktail and beer lists were huge, very impressive and reasonably priced! We had the whole night's entertainment in one establishment. I love this Place and will definitely have my next gathering there! Pros: lots to do, ambience, cocktails, service more

FAT BLACK IS THE SPOT!! 2/19/2007

LUV THIS SPOT!!! SO COOL AND DRINKS ARE THE BEST! I GO OUT 4 TO 5 NIGHTS AND THIS SPOT WAS OFF MY RADAR!!! WHAT A MISTAKE!! GREAT SERVICE!! GREAT PLACE!! GREAT DRINK MENU!! Pros: DRINK MENU ATTENTIVE SERVERS!! Cons: NONE COME TO MIND more

Had a great birthday 1/21/2007

I really liked the way I was treated at this place. The staff and management were exteremely attentive to my group. We liked all three rooms, but wound up staying in the Village Underground for most of the night. Everybody was friendly, (even the bouncers). Pros: friendly, multiple rooms Cons: need more food choices more

What!!? 1/8/2007

I have been here more than a few times the music, crowd and atmosphere was always good. Until I tried to book a party. Booking a party is hard enough without all of the drama. Hopefully in the future they will see that for booking a party they should be a little less demanding, and more accomodating. I thought long and hard about this and decided that if I did return to this establishment I wouldn't book a party. I guess it's who you know wherever you go. Pros: Good Cons: BOOKING A PARTY more

A great hang out spot after work! 12/25/2006

I went to the Fat Black for the umpteenth time last week and I had a blast! I was with one of my friends and we were celebrating his friend?s b-day. It was so much fun. Of course we took advantage of the drink specials. Who wouldn?t? The selection is HUGE! The service was a little slow but that was only because it got crowded. The music was great? a little bit of everything. I asked the DJ at the bar area to play my request and he said I would have to wait til the downstairs (lounge/club) opened but the next thing I knew, he was playing what I requested. I danced at the bar? it was great ? AS ALWAYS! I think this is my favorite hang out spot so far! I will defiinitey come here again and again and again! TO THE STAFF: Keep up the good work! :D Pros: Great music, happy hour, good service, 3 rooms Cons: small bathroom, can get very crowded more

Lots of fun.. 11/21/2006

The spot has many room. The first one is ok, the second one looks like an old living room.. But this is a good thing, its cozy, dim lighting perfect for a date. The downstairs is lounge club. Even if you're at FBPC you will still have to pay an admission fee to get it. On weekends it is really packed. It is a lounge/club. Many comfortable couches along the wall. Great atmosphere has the feeling of a club but is not as big as one which makes it a lot better. more

Great atmosphere 11/19/2006

Had my 21st birthday bash here and from what I can remember it was a great time! Love the decor and atmosphere...watch our for their signature drink the fat black pussycat martini, it's a mind eraser! Pros: ambience more

We Had a Great Time! 10/31/2006

I organized a group of friends from Morgan Stanley for a party two Saturdays ago. We had a great time and were very well taken care of. The place was friendly all around. We would definitely come again. Pros: Each room unique Cons: Service just a little slow when got crowded more

Pricey drinks in the dance area 10/29/2006

I love the drink menu! Trademark drinks! I love the concept of 3 different scenes in this bar/lounge/pub/club mix. Always a great place to visit at least once. more

I'm too old 10/28/2006

This place is cool and fun but if you're out of college don't bother going. You'll only be annoyed by the drunk annoying college kids that you once were. more

Great Happy Hour 9/29/2006

I took some girlfriends of mine to The Fat Black Pu$$y Cat for happy hour. We were SO impressed! We were promptly chauffered in, got a great booth, and listed to great music. You can imagine our surprise when we got the check - 1/2 half for happy hour. Such a great venue with good looking people in it! Pros: Happy Hour Prices Cons: Service is a little slow more

Great local hang out 9/9/2006

Cool place to hang out in the Village, loads of room, great atmosphere and super Friendly staff!! Makes for a great place to call into anytime of day or ........even better late at night ;) !! Really not too many good neighboured bars anymore in this great part of nyc so definatly check this one out!! Pros: Friendly staff more

thumbs up! 9/9/2006

I hosted a party at fat black pussycat last saturday and all of my guests had a wonderful time. There were 15 of us and we had two tables in the lounge area. The ambience was great, drinks were reasonably priced, and our server was very helpful and friendly. Most of us chilled in the lounge area while a couple went downstairs to the nightclub. There's something for everyone at Fat Black Pussycat and that's why it's such a great place for parties. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends. Thanks! Pros: great service and ambience more

Would e great addition to the meat packing district. 8/20/2006

Really nice idea having 3 different rooms to go through. My party kind of split up and fouind their various niches. I think the Moroccan room is the nicest part of the place, but I kind of liked being able to play pool as well. Only thing is I would have preferred not going to the Village. Really friendly service also. Pros: Variety Cons: West Third Street more

Editorial
  • The Scene On the surface, this bar appears to be just another noisy, crowded after-work or after-school scene. But move beyond the cramped front room and find a casual crowd unwinding in a lively space with wooden booths, quirky wall art and mini table-side TVs. For the real surprise, slip behind a side curtain into a lavish bohemian lounge where would-be couples sink into inviting velvet couches amid Moroccan lanterns. The Draw Plasma TVs, dartboards, Web-access terminals, a jukebox, a pool table--there are enough diversions to occupy even the shortest attention span. The drink selections--beer, cognac, martinis--suit a variety of tastes, and raspberry liqueurs give the bar's namesake drink an appropriately robust flavor. While more obvious choices exist for meeting people and kicking back (or making out), this split-personality feline is ideal for those who want to keep their options open.
