Best

I want to work to this place which will make life happening.

Worst

This bar is okay, theres nothing specifically special about it, but the waitress we had was horrible. She wasn't happy with her tips, and didnt understand that to have good tips ...

The Cat is Phat!!! 8/17/2006

Went there on a Thursday night not expecting much. In entering the place, I noticed the great music that was being played (Pop, Rock and R&B) and knew this was going to be a good night. The waitress was a little slow in noticing we were there, but that was to be expected since it was a bit crowded. My friend and I ordered a Corona each. When the bill came the night got even sweeter!!! Two Coronas cost us only $4.50!!! That's right folks ... $4.50 for the two!!!! You couldn't take the smiles off of our faces! :-D Great music, nice crowd (mixed and all ages), cheap drinks (atleast the beer) and regular finger food...this is certainly a place to go to when you don't want to spend alot of money, and want to have a good time. Pros: Cheap beers, Great music, Nice crowd Cons: Tiny and uncomfortable seating, Very grease finger food menu more

Best place to have a good time!!! 7/27/2006

I have been coming to this place for many years now. BY far the best place to hang out and have a good time on a friday or Saturday night in the village. Even thursday happy hours are hopping. The atmosphere is a bit calm to begin the night and picks up as the night progresses. The only negative I have about this place is being thrown out the last time I attended. I was the DD that night and was thrown out due to mistaken identity. I discussed this with the bouncer and he said he MIGHT have been wrong. However, did not let me back in. I brushed this siuation aside becasue I still love the place but this was a BAD expereince for me that night. Pros: Everything Cons: Bouncers, Bouncers, Bouncers more

It is my civil duty 7/26/2006

To write and tell you that this place is one of my absolute favorites!!! I do admit I rarely use Citysearch and this is the first time I have ever written a "review" of a place but after reading some other comments, I felt it was my duty to say that I come back again and again for the atmosphere of the Fat Black and have referred numerous friends and colleagues to do the same. This place is for people who like to have fun and obviously not for those who find themselves so "above" a dress code or for those who have a fear of crowds and people and enjoying themselves (as some of these reveiewers seem to). For a good time, call the Fat Black :) Pros: great music, diverse crowd Cons: Beatniks, downers stay away more

Great Birthday Party 7/25/2006

We had never been to the Pussycat but we heard it was great. We had such a nice time especially because the staff and management really looked after us. They even contacted us the next day to make sure everything went alright. We loved having all the different atmospheres to choose from, and all around my friends and I were really happy with our choice. Pros: Lounge and prices more

Load of Fun 2/19/2006

I think this is a great place. They offer a lot, and the prices are very very reasonable. The DJ downstairs was great!!! Pros: DJ more

My Favorite Regular Place 2/16/2006

I love to come here. Besides the famous happy hour, there are three rooms and usually three DJ's. The service is always friendly, and the martinis are huge and reasonably priced. I always want to try new places, but always end up back at the Pussycat. more

This Place is recommended???? 2/13/2006

The service was good and the space is really nice but besides that......... The Happy Hour drinks were very watered down and was pulled from us before 8. The first part looked more frat than after work and we were limited since the upstairs was closed. more

It's cool 1/3/2006

I like it. It's a place to just go and have some drinks and play pool and dance a little if you choose to. I would recommend this place to any one who's into having fun. more

Eclectic variety; fun, diverse, friendly crowd 11/17/2005

Very nice place, there's something for everyone here. There are several areas to suit your mood: the cozy lounge area with several sections that can accommodate small groups(6-10), the pool hall area, the table/booth area for small groups who want to chill and order drinks, and the dance club downstairs which was playing smooth R&B/hip-hop when I was there last friday night. I don't think I even saw the whole club. In the lounge area where I spent the most time, the music was a mix of top 40, with some mainstream jazz, latin, and hip-hop. The crowd is semi-upscale, mostly young profesionals, ethnically diverse, and relatively friendly. Drinks are reasonably priced ($6 vodka, $2 redbull, $6 beers) Bottom line: Variety, friendly young professional crowd, decent staff, reasonable prices, decent music. Pros: friendly crowd, great variety, reasonable prices Cons: none come to mind... more

I just celebrated my 25th B-day at Fat Black Pussycat on Saturday in the Village Underground, and it was absolutely great. The drinks are very reasonable, the music keeps you dancing all night long, and the service is great. You must try the Fat Black Martini. It's best to reserve tables because this place fills up fast and you won't be able to find a place to sit. Thank you to Kristin for helping make my b-day one to remember, and to Katie, my waitress, for her impecable service and patience with the guys in my group. Pros: Drink Prices, Atmosphere, Music Cons: Crowded more

Loyola Students REunite =Awesome Night. 10/17/2005

It was my 22nd Birthday on Saturday, I was going to school in new orleans and have recently been relocated, 6 of my friends made the trip to NYC to party with me, we are all seniors in college. Then some friends from NYC (around 18) met up with us. It was absolutely by far the best time ever, we had two tables in the downstairs lounge. Our waitress was the cutest thing ever! I couldn't have asked for a better party scene. The DJ is phenominal. It is definetly worth checking out! All of us are still talking about it! Pros: waitress, music, atmosphere more

my little secret 10/13/2005

I had a BLAST!!!! This was the best party I ever had. I would like to send out a BIG kiss and hug to Kristin and the whole staff at the BFPC exspeacially the bouncers who showed me lots of love. All my friends had a good time, and the D.J. was doing the damn thing I loved when he shouted out Happy Birthday to me after evey couple of songs. I can't wait to go back. I might have to go out there tonight........ Pros: Fun, great after work, good music more

Had a nice time 7/30/2005

Went here with a sizable group. Nice atmosphere. Went down to the dance floor area and we were able to have a table without being forced to order bottles. We ordered individual drinks and did not have to worry about a minimum so that was good. The bartender screwed up two rounds of drinks but they made up for it with complimentary shots. The cocktail waitress was really sweet. Music was fun and the people were good. Pros: fun music Cons: Crappy, bartender, downstairs more

Where did the time go? 7/19/2005

I came in one night at about 7:00 PM and didn't find my way out until 4:00 AM. During that time I had some great martinis, went dancing downstairs at the Underground club, shot some pool upstairs, and relaxed on the couches with a girl I met. Pretty cool time! Pros: Variety more

All Inclusive 7/13/2005

Bar on the left hand side will serve up great martinis that don't cost $12 like at other bars... the first area: college setting, bar, wooden tables and benches, pool tables, dart boards, etc. Good place for a few to get together for beer. THEN, there's the left side: lounge, velvety couches, tables for large groups, better to have cocktails, different music, different vibe from first room If you're not happy with that, go downstairs and it's a large dance floor, good lights, have shots at the bar, dance with a good diverse crowd, mix of white/black/european/few south asians... maybe a handful of asian people (besides the bartender) on a good day. crowd is both young and old. But overall, good dance, 3 different vibes, all put into one bar. Good after work place on a friday night! or while you're bar hopping.. =) Pros: diverse, dancing, various vibes Cons: need more hot guys more

Thanks Fat Black 7/11/2005

I've had two parties at the Fat Black, one a birthday party for me and my friends, and the other was an office party. Both went perfectly. Every single employee in the place was friendly! Great DJ too. Pros: Different Rooms Cons: Crowded more

Great bar, fun food... 7/8/2005

This place is great! Nice happy hour...comfy lounge and great music. Pros: happy hour, inexpensive, nice crowd more

I see why they were voted no.1! 6/23/2005

FBP is the illest, the drink prices are very cool and the drinks are quite "healthy"--unbeatable. Very mixed crowd and atmosphere. the bar area with pool table and darts is good for chillin with friends, The lounge is a great first date spot and the Rumor plays great club music, (hip hop, latin, reggae, r&B, pop). The bouncers and staff are pretty cool, but the only problem is if you're pants are too baggy they won't let you in, that's BS, but other wise, kick ass bar... Pros: inexpensive, no cover Cons: no single men, no baggy jeans more

We had sooooo much fun! 6/15/2005

The party was great! I was one of 6 Geminis who got together for a good time at the FBP. We reserved a section in the lounge and mostly stayed there all night. At times people went to go dance at the club downstairs. That was fun too. The background music in the lounge was goodchill vibe. Service was goodgot in with no problems! like I said before, we had a great time! definitely would go back again for a group party. Pros: cool lounge, good music, fast drink service more

Editorial
  • The Scene On the surface, this bar appears to be just another noisy, crowded after-work or after-school scene. But move beyond the cramped front room and find a casual crowd unwinding in a lively space with wooden booths, quirky wall art and mini table-side TVs. For the real surprise, slip behind a side curtain into a lavish bohemian lounge where would-be couples sink into inviting velvet couches amid Moroccan lanterns. The Draw Plasma TVs, dartboards, Web-access terminals, a jukebox, a pool table--there are enough diversions to occupy even the shortest attention span. The drink selections--beer, cognac, martinis--suit a variety of tastes, and raspberry liqueurs give the bar's namesake drink an appropriately robust flavor. While more obvious choices exist for meeting people and kicking back (or making out), this split-personality feline is ideal for those who want to keep their options open.
