they act like they re doing you a favor by coming over and fix it, not customer oriented. Not helpful, not friendly, not sympathetic. Once I bought a laundry machine, twice I called them on repairs for separate issues. I like to give local businesses a chance before casting my judgment. After three years I think I can safely say they're not amiable, helpful, or reliable. more

really wanted to like this place 5/29/2019

but they sold us underperforming products, such as ovens that do not heat evenly and refrigerators that do not cool evenly. Have since replaced both their refrigerator recommendations and both washer and dryer with cheaper models from Lowe's. After 3 years the replacement units are working great and were purchased at lower cost. You want to start living up to your family reputation, we'll give you another chance. Until then, we will shop big box and leave you to deal with the consequences. more

Great Sales Staff, installers, and technical support 4/26/2016

We purchased all our appliances from Slager for the last 49 years. Our most recent purchase this month of a Washing machine was an excellent experience. Steven in sales was a great source of information and made the decision of which machine to purchase easy. When there was a problem with the newly installed machine, a replacement was immediately delivered, installed, and checked. We could not have wished for a better experience. Thank you Slager Staff. Immature Schoolboys 9/19/2015

As a recent customer of Slager Appliances I would like to offer my view of the business. If you consider yourself to be among the hoi polloi, the masses, then I strongly advise that you shop elsewhere. Apparently several of the sales staff suffer from arrested development. They have not out grown the adolescent mentality of the elitist superiority of their own clique. Be aware that you may not be dealing with a responsible adult who always acts professionally. In fact you may become the object of the incredible immaturity of their own good fun. However if you do consider yourself to be among the entitled, then do shop there. You will be in your element. If Slager Appliances is desirous of ridding itself of the present culture that prevails there, I have a suggestion. Institute a customer ratings system whereby each and every person who walks through the door is invited to evaluate whether or not they were treated as a valued customer. I, personally, would like to see a local business who has a long history of "proudly serving" customers continue to do so and prosper. It was not easy writing this review since many people's livelihoods are involved and I wish no harm to the business itself. However, its present climate of culture I do, indeed, find repugnant. more

Unreasonable 7/21/2011

After Slager failed an in-home repair, I delivered the appliance to their store. (As the repair person did not have time to return to my home.) I asked them to credit me for the original trip charge, and they refused. Goodbye Slager. Will never do business with you again! more

Slager's Sales and Service 11/24/2010

Purchased a dishwasher and found the sales staff to be very knowledgable and helpful in helping me decide which model to purchase. Later, I had questions on intalling and set up and the guy who I spoke to was also very helpful. I would shop here again :) more

Sales 4/3/2010

Slager's have a gem of a salesman. Lonnie Weldon provided us with options, pros and cons on each appliance and showed us differences by side-by-side comparisons. No pressure but incredibly valuable information that we appreciated. Thank you Lonnie for a pleasant Saturday shopping for appliances. You know your stuff and it shows. We ended up buying 4 appliances. more

Judy's Book allows false & defamatory statements 9/22/2009

This is a response to a post written by Betty V (to which I found out her name, address, and telephone) What is wrong is when two family members (one is an employee) have issues with each other, and she use a forum such as this to voice a false complaint to get even. These statements she has posted are untrue, false, and defamatory, since she is NOT a customer and does NOT live in our town! Judy's Book allow's false statement's to be listed as which other forums review statements for honest opinions with facts. Legal people now need to correct this. -Slager Appliance more

LF's post say it all 6/24/2009

LF's posts, as the service manager at Slager, really say all that needs to be said about Slager's. He comments on my post (2 years later!) by blaming me. It seems very unlikely that he has the facts of a 2+ year old service call more accurately remembered than my memory at the time. Moreover, whatever I said about the dryer was good enough for the appliance barn service tech to do the job! Blaming the customer seems par for the course, judging by his posts. The kind of service that you get from Slager is exactly what LF's posts would make you expect. Innaccurate, not customer friendly, and at times downright combative. more

Responding to the "Worst of the Worst" post 6/15/2009

My name is Luke Finley and I am the service manager at Slager Appliances. The previous post needs to be extrapolated upon. I am sorry for the client’s dissatisfaction with our service capabilities of which we are founded upon. We remain one of the few full service dealers in the nation. Big box stores have affected our industry and often times they offer far fewer service options than we are able to. Comments like this do not help our ability to continue to serve clients who have been pleased with our abilities. It needs to be noted there is no mention of the previous service calls we have performed for this client to their utmost satisfaction. We have been servicing their appliances since 2006 without complaint. The dryer now being serviced is difficult to diagnose since all of its functions check out ok according to the machines self-diagnostics. Each time our technician left the home the dryer was functioning properly. After limited use by the client the machine failed again. Unfortunately there are sporadic issues with this machine that can only be diagnosed if the problem is occurring while our technician is examining the machine in the home. I offered over $200 worth of free parts since our only option is to try replacing the parts we suspect are causing the failure. We have not charged this client for additional labor or service calls while trying to repair the machine. We have to remember these are machines, they cannot speak, and as a result sometimes they are not easily diagnosed or repaired. With regard to the client’s claim of my "apathy", this was stated after I elected not to service the dryer when they demanded that we serviced the dryer the same day that his parts arrived. Of course our schedule was full for the day that we called him and we scheduled service for the next working day. In order to accommodate the client’s request for same day service I would have had to cancel two service calls for clients without a functioning refrigerators. While a dryer is important, refrigera more

Service Rating-Worst of the Worst 6/15/2009

Good: Show room. Bad: Service department, Service Manager and a service technician. Our experiance involves ovens and a dryer. Having purchased top of the line appliances from Slager we expected to need little service but what we experienced was a lot of bad service. The core of the disatisfaction is the inability to diagnose problems with minimal service calls, numerous ordering of parts before getting it "right",technician saying "it's fixed" when it wasn't, and the Service Manager doesn't indicate that customer concern count. Improvements: Better technical and managerial skills. Other: We are freely distributing the above information because of the Service Manager's apathy.. more

Customer satisfaction 2/12/2009

As we all know, it is impossible to please everyone all the time. In the case of the dryer that was fixed by another company, the customer didn't tell us the correct issue so we couldn't repair it. If someone tells us the dryer isn't heating, yet the dryer heats to 140 and stays hot for the 20 minutes we are there, common sense says the dryer heats. To the claim that they never got their refund, completly wrong and we have the bank records to prove it. Stigmas are very hard to get passed, many people feel that Lowes, Best Buy, and Home Depot have lower prices than us and in some cases they do. A person will feel very good about the deal untill something goes wrong. Everyday we get calls from customers who purchased items from these stores and now have service issues. Saving $15 or $20 upfront turns into a lot of frustration when your refrigerator goes down and you have to wait a week before factory service can come to your house, if they show at all. Read reviews of A&E Factory service, who most manufactures use for warranty work. You will find pages and pages of frustrated people that have taken time off work to meet the technician only to have no contact from anyone until 5:00 when they find out no one is coming. As I said, no one can make everyone happy, but I have to believe since we are still in business after serving the same community for 60 years, we are doing something right. more

Bad service experience 1/8/2007

Slager came out to repair my dryer (which was purchased from them). They couldn't fix it on two visits, and then said they wanted to take it to the shop. We had another company come out and look at and he immediately diagnosed the problem and fixed it on the spot. He was incredulous that it had been looked at by someone else and they didn't immediately fix the problem. The only thing positive I can say is that they say they will be sending a refund. But you have to trust repair people, not shop around and then get refunds! EDIT: They never sent a refund, and now claim that none is due me. I am terribly dissatisfied and contacting the BBB. more

Slager Appliances......family owned but not for this gal! 9/21/2005

Now I normally do the majority of my shopping in local stores but I must be honest here when I say that although Slagers is a business with a long family history and somewhat of a reputation in Iowa City, I don't think I will be doing much shopping there in the near future. It isn't that they don't have variety...they do but it is not the array of variety you might find at one of the larger stores though that is not the most important aspect of a business. What has turned me off is, in my past experience with this business, I have received unsatisfactory customer service when it came to communication and such. When we purchased our home we had a credit at SLAGERS for appliances and not knowing any better we went there to outfit our new home. The appliances came and though I called several times to ask them to reset the stove and dishwasher and to check on other problems I was having, I virtually was ignored and nothing was done. Needless to say, I was frustrated....and I remain so to this day. Later we purchased a clothes drier and being busy when it was installed, I did not check it carefully before the deliverymen left. Later I went to the laundry room and I noticed a big scratch on the drier. When I called, I was informed the scratch must have been made by me, it wasn't there when it was delivered. When I protested, I got nowhere and up until the day that drier was replaced (by another business) I lived with the knowledge that SLAGERS did not have good customer service and that in essence I was called a liar by their staff. Now, like any other review, this is simply one persons opinion and nothing else. SLAGER'S might well be the place for you but for this mom of 2, I think I will travel a bit before I do business there again........ more
