Wow! This restaurant is fantastic. It has bold Asian flavors combined with artistic presentations. Literally the kajaki (Hawaiian for blue marlin) was so beautiful that I didn't w...

Worst

Our waiter was very friendly and offered us information on what to order on the menu. Then we did, and all the food was extremely bland and tasteless, covered up with more sauce ...

Great dates spot 1/13/2007

Roy's is good. I have eaten in other roys around the US. the austin version is nice. A good, chef driven concept for sure with a nice space, well decorated. Pros: Atmpsohere, food quality Cons: off beaten path more

Roy's Review 10/28/2006

My husband and I went there to celebrate our third anniversary, and it was wonderful. I had the lobster potstickers for an appetizer which was delicious. We had the filet of beef and tiger shrimp for our entree. The beef was tender and full of flavor, and it came with a interesting sauce. We paired our meal with a velvety Chilean wine; it was a perfect combination. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle with rasberry sauce, which was unbelievable. more

Simply Wow!!! 10/5/2006

I took my wife to Roy's for her birthday in September.....and it's a decision I certainly don't regret. Our waitress was fantastic (an 8 out of 10), the ambiance was great (10/10), and the food was perfect (10/10). The food was probably the best I've ever had. It doesn't mean that Roy's is the best restaurant, but on that night, all the stars aligned perfectly for them (& us). I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice, romantic place to go for dinner. The prices are fair, but you'll end up spending $50/person even w/o drinks. Pros: Food, Service, Location Cons: Parking, Expensive more

Best seafood in Austin 8/21/2006

I have eaten at several installations of the Roy's chain while travelling on business around the US. The Roy's in Austin has by far the best ambiance and the food is fantastic. I find the sauces with every dish I experience to be complex and the ingredients are always of the highest quality. To drink, the wine list is well-developed but I would recommend the Orange Crush cocktail for sure. Pros: Great food, good service Cons: Can be expensive for some more

Pretty awesome for a fine dining chain 7/12/2006

I was really pleased with my fish and my boyfriend's steak. I called in with a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday and they didn't even ask but when they brought out our dessert plate it had a candle in it and they wrote happy birthday in chocolate along the plate. I ereally like the ambience actually... we were sat in a corner so maybe that helped. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: parking more

disappointed too 4/5/2006

For the price I thought the fish was a bit bland and the chocolate souffle was ok but not to die for. I'll agree with the other reviews too - it was too loud in there. It was a Tuesday night and not that many people but it was still too hard to hear the person in front of me. Cons: parking more

A nice night out 6/6/2005

Our experience at Roy's was pretty nice. My husband and I had the appetizer boat to start with and it was yummy but filling. I had the scallop entree, whose texture can only be described as SEXY. My husband's butterfish was not as great, but okay. The famous chocolate souffle is awesome. The seating is good, but the acoustics are not great. You pretty much have to sit next to your date to hear anything. Pros: good food, great waiter Cons: hotel lobby decor, can't hear anything more

Mahalo! 5/17/2005

Mahalo means thank you, and that is exactly what you say after each bite. I remember Thanksgiving in Hawaii after my mom got remarried. We ate at Roy's and everything was perfect. I can't personally say anything about the wine list (because I don't drink!), but my step-brother, sister and brother-in-law think it is great. My mom and step-brother come in from Houston to enjoy it. We love Roy's! Our whole family recomends it to anyone near a Roy's. Having the one here in Austin is like stepping into a bit of Hawaii itself. Thanks Roy's for keeping my memories alive! Pros: delicious food, attentive staff, romantic atmosphere more

What a Find! 5/8/2004

I have been dining around Austin for over 7 years and I have never been more impressed by a ""Chain"" restaurant. I went in a on a Thursday night to discover live Jazz in the bar and a small but lively crowd. Service in both the bar and dining room were stellar, friendly and inviting. But on to the true story behind this place, the food! I cant tell you exactly what was in the sauce or marinade but I know it is called Butterfish, try it, you'll see what I mean! Exiting and unique appetizers, and the best desserts I have found in Austin. In paticular the Chocolate Souffle. I was shocked to find out this restaurant has been open for two years. The manager said they had relied solely on word of mouth. Well, the words from this mouth are ""Unparalleled!"" Pros: Patio, Music, FOOD! more

2 scallops? 4/24/2004

I'm always excited to check out a new seafood restaurant and Roy's was no exception. Unfortunatly it was a very dissapointing experience. My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday evening, not busy at all, we each ordered the shellfish combo, shrimp and scallops. For $26 each we recieved 4 sub par grilled shrimp and 2 above average scallops, some rice that had been under the light to long(the restaurant was at about 10% capacity), 1 shoot and some sliced carrots. For 8 shirmp, 4 scallops, calamari(average), a cup of coffee and an ice tea that came when I was done with my meal the cost without tip was $69. I'd just assume go to Captains next time. more

Poor Service 4/5/2004

The food was great. The restaurant atmosphere is definitely not what I would call romantic. The ceilings are high and it felt like a hotel ballroom. The acoustics were terrible. It was difficult to hear anyone at the table or the waiter. We waited over an hour and a half for our entrees. Although they offered a free appetizer (in addition to what we ordered) it wasn't enough to make up for the poor service. Our waiter was not friendly or knowledgeable and then proceeded to clear the table when one of us in the group wasn't finished eating. The service and food preparation time need some work! We made reservations two weeks prior but were still given a bad seat and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated!! Pros: Pros Cons: , Reservations, Valet more

A nice night out... 1/11/2004

I found Roy's of Austin to be very pleasant. The prices are reasonable for the price point it is catering too. Most dishes where in the 17-25 dollar price range. The portions where large; i was expecting a small portion on a large platter. The service was great; never was there a moment we didn't have any rolls on the table. The appetizers where to die fore. The desserts are awesome. Try the drink specials. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Tropical Look Missing, Maybe some music more

Roy's Austin review 5/19/2003

I went to Roy's Austin last Friday night and personaly thought the food and service were outstanding. I had the Achi Salmon as an appitizer it was incrediable, the plate presentation was like a work of art. For the second course I ordered the Blackened Ahi Tuna, which looked and tasted great as well. And I finished my meal with the Choclate Souffle, which was to die for. It was also very exiting watching the chefs in the open kitchen, it is kind of like getting a meal and a show. Overall I was very impressed with Roy's Austin. Pros: Romantic, Exciting, Wonderful food more

catch of the day 12/21/2002

Nice setting, but over-priced food was the deal of the day. My friends and I enjoyed the service and the food but think it's too expensive except for special celebrations. Pros: nice drink menu Cons: parking more

Wine Tastings to Die For 11/20/2002

Talk about a great place to meet people and enjoy good wines...They are also very generous with the tastings...So far, I have been to 8 or 9 tastings...champagne, umami, port...you name it, they are open for suggestion and willing to please. The appetizers served with the wine are excellent. The desserts served with the ports were also tasty. The waitstaff is helpful and knowledgable. They are encouraged to learn about the wine and food. I'd go here for a special occasion definitely. After a dinner at Roy's, my fiance and I set a Wedding Date! more

Awesome Service 7/27/2002

The food was great, and the service was great, and the people there were very nice. A++++++++ more

""PARADISE FOUND!! -- ALOHA!"" 5/27/2002

Amazing from the moment we walked in! Bright ALOHAS echoed as we were escorted through their warm, enchanting dining room. The spirit of Hawaii is definitely present. Large tropical arrangements throughout the dining rooms and bright floral paintings adorn the walls, giving one instantly the feeling that you have been transported to the isles. I was fortunate to dine on an evening when the chef was featuring a bone in swordfish chop -- OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! This had to be one of the most incredible dishes I've EVER had. The fish melted in my mouth and the flavors seemed to over take me, very bold and distinct. This was the most incredible dining experience that we have had in Austin! The service catered to our every whim -- it lacked nothing. We will definitely be back time and time again! MAHALO Roy's! Pros: service, atmosphere, food Cons: crowded patio more
