Who are these people who had a good experience with this company? Have you never moved before? Please see below, I have never written a review before but felt the need to write on...

Highly recommended ---- Provident movers have been outstanding all through the move. At eleventh hour, I asked them to collect some items from another location. The provident folks did the job with very courteous manner and didn't increase the cost for extra service they gave me. My all family members have been happy having Provident as our mover. The way their workers diligently gave labor for the move, it showed nothing but their efficiency. In order to identify every item, they nicely labeled and tagged all boxes. I acquired an excellent moving experience only because of the movers. I highly recommend them for a safe move. more

Provident is a company that I would recommend to anyone i know. Each of the movers were quick and efficient, understanding and courteous. The crew worked hard, quick and yet very professional. The forman had the paitence to explain everything to me step by step. He went over the paperwork and answered all of my questions. I would definately use this company again. I was extremely pleased with the services and professionalism of the entire staff and crew. more

Be warned - Provident moving charged us more than twice the quoted rate at double the time. Mid-move, we were told by the owner that we were on schedule only to have our move go over on time by double. The movers seemed to slow in the afternoon hours to a snails pace. They didn't even move all of our belongings as promised, forcing us to return days later to complete the move ourselves. When we arrived at our new house, the movers would not take our belongings off the truck without being paid the full cash balance, again, at twice the quoted estimate. The movers didn't arrive at our new house until 1am, whereupon our new neighbors called the police for all the noise they made unloading their truck. They also took out our phone and cable line backing down the drive way. When we complained, the owner promised us a partial (and very minor refund) after numerous calls and texts. He never followed through. I'd characterize Provident Moving as the most polite scam artists I've ever met. Look elsewhere for movers please. Provident Moving is a well rehearsed scam of a moving company. more

I've used Provident three times now and they've always performed. \r \r First, the price they quote IS the price you end up paying. I know that sounds like common sense, but in this type of industry, the quoted price is rarely a given. I've had other companies quote lower prices, but knew that that would either go up or the quality wouldn't be there.\r \r Second, communication has been top-notch. I've worked with other moving/shipping companies and getting updates weren't great experiences.\r \r Third, they just do good work. Yeah, it's not glamorous or anything to get excited about, but they do it with respect and the care they give is exceptional. And they've been early on a couple occasions (they give you a heads up). On this mot recent move, I let them know that I needed their expertise in packing my glassware, and they were willing to take care of my glasswares (up to 3 boxes).\r \r Particularly, my mover, Ralph, did a great job with my move - he and Juan were both friendly and amenable. They were in and out in a little over an hour. more

Provident Moving was recommended to me by a friend. THANK GOD!!! Unfortunately, due to my job, I had to move several times during the last ten years. I didn't have good experiences at all. This time we moved from Boston to Washington Twp. NJ. Joe who gave me an estimate and the crew who came to pack our belongings were very professional. They arrived on time and took care of everything as if it was their own. They were very courteous and nice with my kids. I really want to thank White Glove Moving for a wonderful job that made this move a good experience for my family. I will definitely recommend Provident Moving to anyone who needs to move. Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::). more

Awful company! Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. They have their employees write them. more

.I was really pleased with Provident Movers and would highly recommend them. . The quote Elvis provided was very competitive, straight forward, and without any surprises. They arrived on time, worked diligently through the whole day, and packed up and moved my belongings with care. The guys had a great attitude; making what could be a stressful day a breeze. The whole move went very smoothly and I couldn’t have asked for better professional service. You would be in terrific hands with Provident movers. Elvis and the crew were great- many thanks!\r more

These guys are absolutely amazing! Their prices are the lowest around and their service is top notch. Their office staff was very professional in handling all my requests and the movers were just as good. I had to change my move date and inventory multiple times and my sales rep was patient with all those changes. On the day of the move, they went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. This is the customer service you never expect from movers. The guys were extremely polite and careful, and I literally sat and did nothing while they were running up and down the stairs with my boxes and furniture. Their customer service rep called me multiple times throughout the day: in the morning to let me know the crew is on the way, in my old place to make sure the pick up was going well, and an hour after the move was complete to make sure I was happy with the movers. I sure was! Provident Moving was a great surprise and I will definitely call them next time I need to move.\r \r more

Highly recommended! The price was definitely not the lowest, but not the highest either. Very suitable for what the situation was, and all the obstacles this move entailed. John the sales manager was by my side the whole way through, I can honestly say I would use them again for my move if we were ever moving again, hopefully we're not though! The price ended up being $100 more because I added some packing for a few pictures I didn't tell anyone about, they must have slipped my mind going through the inventory. Either way, this was very successful, or I'm so happy with the results, thanks Provident !\r \r more

I have moved an obscene number of times. In the last five years alone, my wife and I have moved five times including three cross-country moves. (and before that was perhaps another ten moves in two decades.) Trust me when I say that I have a lot of moving experience.\r \r Provident was the best moving experience that we have had. We paid an additional $200 for packing, which didn't seem an unreasonable expense, and they got the job done in amazing time and with everything delivered in one piece. Our items were wrapped and boxed with care but also at lightning speed.\r \r One of the things I appreciated is that Provident sent four people to pack and move us rather than the customary three. It kept the packing and move racing along. From the time they showed up to pack us to the time they left the final box in the new apartment a half mile away was just around seven hours.\r \r The quote was the quote--there were no surprise charges.\r \r If I had minor complaints, they would be this:\r \r - The movers showed up about a half hour later than expected (but they still managed to finish at least an hour sooner than I would have guessed.)\r \r - One of the movers was perhaps a little too eager to move things along. While nothing got damaged, a couple of times this one knocked into walls or tried to cram a large piece of furniture through a door at a bad angle. Three of the guys earned five stars from me but one of them gets a three-star rating. (Still, proof is in the pudding, and they got the job done right!)\r \r We thought the price was right, the job was done right, there were no unpleasant surprises and the move happened quicker than expected. I've never had a more comfortable, fast, reliable move. I'd use Provident again in a heartbeat.\r \r more

Used this company for a local move in NJ. I was skeptical at first with all the mixed reviews I've read but I must say my experience was great. I was given detailed breakdown of the possible costs by the sales team. They have me several different cost scenarios and even advised me on how to cut down on costs. The day of the move the moving crew were spectacular! The foreman broke the bill down for me and answered any questions I had. The men were quick, made this whole stress of moving a lot easier on my family. more

If there was a 0, I would leave a 0. The other fantastic reviews seem questionable to me. A few months ago I looked up this company on Google and went with them, and should have payed attention to the NEGATIVE REVIEWS!\r \r They have a 4 hour minimum, and my move took about 2 hours, when I called to find out a quote, the girl said she needs to book soon because they are filling up on orders. The main mover guy acted like he was doing me a favor. They were in such a rush to get out that they forgot to package a heavy tall lamp, which I had to then come back for and put in my SUV. Also, at the end the guy tried to make me pay $78 in some sort of EPA tax that I was not told about, and did not have in my confirmation. I had a huge fight with him, and he kept on giving me some dumb a$$ reasons for why I needed to pay extra. At the end I just refused to pay it, and told him to call his boss, finally he agreed to waive it. I bought my own plastic wrap and covers, but he charged me for tape and 3 small boxes he used- 80 bucks! I paid over 400 with tips for this, and it wasn't worth the headache. more

I used Provident Moving for a local move. The original estimate was accurate and the follow-ups timely, which was important because I had a few complications in selling my house (who doesn't?). The move crew arrived on time, and really HUSTLED to get the work done within the time estimate, but also took excellent care of my stuff. Unfortunately (since my new place was only eight miles away) my things needed to be stored for a couple of days, but this too was no problem. I asked for the same crew for the move-in, and I was just as impressed with how quickly they got things done. From start to finish, the move went very smoothly, and the cost, excluding storage-related expenses, was within the original estimate. Thank you,Provident! more

These guys were amazing. Showed up early - not always a blessing when you're moving!!! But, they were patient with my not being quite ready. Packed and unpacked my closets, and moved my furniture carefully. Amazing. I never say this, but I would have happily paid more. We moved from NJ to MA, they are professional from start to finish, you would have thought I was moving a whole house interstate! But, no, this was a small studio with - granted, much more stuff than I thought, but still a small job as far as movers are concerned. They made it easy. Would very highly recommend.\r more

Move from Chicago IL to NJ. These guys were great from the first call to the last box moved. The office crew is a great help answering any and all questions quickly and easily. They also provided a very professional reminder call the day prior to my move and a follow-up call to make sure all went well.\r \r more

STAY AWAY! I wish I could somehow give them lower than 1 star but I am unable. To preface this review I have moved 4 times locally in the NY/NJ area in the past 7 years. I understand there will always be fictitious ""extras"" that are added to the total of any quote you are given. In my mind if it adds another 10-15% I just kind of live with it as part of the industry. With that being said I was moving a 1 BR apt from Brooklyn to Brooklyn (7 miles away). I was quoted a minimum of 4 hrs at $85/hr plus supplies. I asked the girl on the phone if she could ball park a number for me just so I wouldn't be caught too off guard. She said a 1 BR should be about $150-200 in supplies but could vary depending on how well I packed before. With that quote given I assumed there would be an extra $200 of something on top of that and I was looking at about $800 for the move. As the movers arrived 2 and a half hours late coming from a job in NJ (great planning by dispatch) I again asked the manager among the 3 what he thought supplies would be based on how things looked. He said between $150-180 but couldn't guarantee me anything. After everything was packed up in their truck they give me a bill for over $1,200. I obviously tried having an educated conversation with this guy but that was impossible. I said there was no way I was paying that and he looked at me smugly as they were in possession of all of my goods minus my car and they weren't going to turn it over until I paid the amount in full. Acting like he was doing me a favor he ended up knocking off about $40 off the supply charge which ended up being over $450. \r \r To say I would never use this company or trust anyone associated with them would be a huge understatement. \r more

We used Provident for our recent move from West Harlem to Jersey City. We reached out to Provident and several other companies for a quote a few days before our move in date. It was pretty straightforward to get a quote, and theirs ended up being the cheapest option. They also threw in some free boxes and tape.\r \r A couple days before our move, we discovered we had about 15% more cubic feet of boxes/furniture than we were initially quoted for. We called Provident and were told that the floor manager would have assess on the day of. \r \r The movers showed up right on time for the move, and we were quite impressed with how efficiently they moved everything into the truck. Within minutes of arriving, the team swooped in, grabbed the boxes and moved on to wrapping the furniture. After the floor manager reviewed our extra items, he didn't include any extra charge. \r \r Overall, quite happy with Provident I thought this whole experience was going to be far more complicated and painful. more

Do not use this company unless you are prepared to be ripped off!!! I don't usually write reviews but I feel strongly about the experience I had with them.\r \r I used Provident in December 2012 and had great customer service during the quote and booking process. I asked a ton of questions as I had been warned about ""extra"" charges that movers try to rip you off with at the very last minute when they are about to unload your belongings. I was pretty clear about all the costs. I have no problem in paying what's owed in full,as long as they are clear and up front about it so I can plan accordingly. The quote I had was for $320 but I ended up paying almost $750. \r \r \r When I asked for a quote, they included an elevator fee. Now, I'm not sure why Provident would be charging me to use an elevator in my old and new places when neither building management did. The person couldn't really explain why but when I pressed her for the rationale, she said she’d waive it. Now, if you use Provident, beware that you have to ask for the FEES (emphasis on plural) otherwise they just mean the fee for one elevator which I found out the hard way. Even with a written quote saying the elevator fee was waived, they were trying to charge me 2 fees on moving day just as they were about to unload the truck. My husband argued with them and they reversed one fee but they wouldn't budge on the other one and reduced it to $95. They claimed that they didn't tell me about both fees because Provident had no way to know that there would be elevators at both locations and it was up to me to tell them.\r \r The move itself went fine- the crew showed up on time and handled our belongings carefully and not one item was broken or damaged I have to say. The leader showed up and took a look around then went downstairs for about 40-45 min- probably talking to the management office on how to jack up the bill. I think they are trained to try to at least double what is on the quote by charging an exorbitant amount for materials if you have to buy them from the movers. For example, a mattress cover should cost about $10 at Home Depot but they charge something like $25 or $30 for plastic covers. The rate they charge for tape to tape up the furniture pads is also a total rip off but they’re trying to make up their revenue somehow. If you use Provident, do not purchase the materials or boxes from them if you can help it. Again, they seem to be trained to find extra things that they can charge you for but I think a lot of moving companies do this.\r \r When we got to the new place, the supervisor only then decided to show us the bill that we would have to pay in cash if we wanted them to unload the truck. He had added 2 elevator fees. He was very sneaky not to mention anything about this at the old place as he knew there would be an issue. He pulled a face and was rude when we took it out of his tip. I felt bad because the team worked hard but the company should understand that their underhandedness gets their customers very upset.\r \r At the end of the day, I overpaid by $95 for the second elevator fee which is not going to break the bank but it was charged in bad faith. When I finally got hold of the manager and asked for a refund, I was denied. I told him I didn't think it made sense to lose business and get negative reviews over $95 he threatened that if I did post something on line, they would send their lawyer after me. Check the BBB site for more complaints.\r more

I would like to say that Provident was brilliant.\r \r Elvis was fantastic and helpful throughout the first move and second move. He made the whole experience very personal.\r \r It was excellent to have my records already on file, and to get the same guys who moved me into storage moving my stuff out again.\r \r They were punctual, nothing was broken, it was a total pleasure and made moving much easier.\r \r I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.\r \r Thank you\r \r more
