Cool Shopping 9/3/2010

I enjoyed the Market more than I expected, there were loads of vendors with unique local-type merch. Some crap too, but more good stuff than bad! There were people selling duct-tape wallets, spoon art, fresh jams, photos, polished river rocks and more! Worth the search for a parking spot! more

True taste of Portland 6/23/2008

I just returned home for a weekend and had took out of town family here. This truley gives you a picture of Portland culture! Everything from fine artisan gifts, true craftsmanship, cheap trinkets, funny t-shirts, and food galore! And the people are as diverse as the items sold; hippies, middle class, college students, etc. The food is amazing, tons of ethnic choices, I love dona lola's mexican pupusas, amazing!! This is beautiful during the summer and right across from water front park. Pros: Tons of yummy food, great location, very cultural, fun! Cons: can get a little crowded more

Hippies GALORE 7/10/2007

I just adore Saturday Market. There is soooo much to do. And so many things to eat!!! Everyone is so friendly and there are hippies everywhere. Theres always free entertainment (tips appreciated) from starving musicians to clowns and face painters. It's open Sat and Sun which is convienant since I always worked on Saturdays. Things are a little pricey but there is one artist who has a booth there that I love. His name is Daniel Work and his paintings are so lovely you must check them out. And very reasonably priced they normally run $$$ 10.00-20.00. If you are ever in the Portland area you really must stop by it is my favorite place in portland. Pros: Best place in Portland Cons: Things can be pricey more

A great way to spend a weekend! 7/5/2006

I went to the Saturday Market (stopped in at the Skidmore Market first, which is across the street) last weekend and had a great time browsing the many vendors. I got cloths- even some made by local designers, handmade jewerly and handmade soap. The live music was kicken! There are many food vendors to choose from, but I only got a smoothie since I already had lunch. I was last there about 4 or 5 years ago and the market has gotten bigger since then. Part of the market is under a bridge and part indoor and then some of it on the other side of the building. Pros: on Max lightrail line, lots of local talent Cons: needs an all vegan/vegetarian food booth more

SATURDAY LAZY DAY 7/8/2003

This is a great place to go and spend some time with family and friends. There is always activity happening down at the Market and it is fun to casually meander through the stands and look at all of the items. I have never bought anything down there, but the atmosphere is worth the trip. Food can be good, if you hit the right stand. Pros: Great atmosphere, Decent food, Activity oriented Cons: Crowded at times, Hard to find parking more

Good times... 5/24/2003

I dont think ive ever bought anything at the PSM, but thats not saying i wouldnt. Theres some really great stuff, and some really creative people hanging around. Sure, some people complain of its ""carni-esque"" nature, but hey, ive never had a problem with funnel cakes. There is some tasty food down there too, you just have to find it. Avoid the norms and eat something you havnt had before.. might surprise ya. Pros: Creative people, Smell of the food, Elvis impersonator Cons: A bit dirty more

I travel to Portland 4 times a year. I make sure each visti coinsides with the market. One of the best ways to spend a day - anywhere in the US. It celebrates the diversity of the city and the people. more

People watching 2/28/2003

I Love going to the Saturday Market to see the veriety of people that go there. The products are fun to look at and the food is sooooo good. Pros: good food, family fun Cons: parking, sometimes crowded more

A Shopping Extraganza? 2/27/2003

Saturday market is an enjoyable place to spend a lazy afternoon. Lots of good food, entertainment and gift ideas. Wonderful views of the waterfront too! Pros: Handmade articles, Good food, Free music Cons: Not open all week more

Worth Waiting For 1/10/2003

Whenever we go to the Portland Saturday Market, we make sure to get their ice cream. It is hand made by a local company called ""Great Northwest Ice Cream"", and it's the best we've ever had. If you have any doubts, just look around. It seems as though EVERYONE has ice cream. If it's a sunny day, you should plan on at least a half hour wait, since the line is so long. But it's worth waiting for and the servings are huge. Besides, it's right next to the stage, so you can enjoy the entertainment while you wait. Oh, and one additional thing. The servings are huge! It's yummy!!! Pros: Fabulous ice cream, Huge Servings, More Fabulous Ice Cre Cons: Long Waiting Line more

ohh lala veggie chili!! 11/14/2002

Every year I yearn for fall when the Vegetarian Chili is served. It is so awesome. It comes hot and steamy with a side of yummy grainy bread. Pair it with the hot cider and for desert, you have GOT to try the cheesecake and the shortbread from the booth next door. Absolutly the best way to warm up after a day of cold shopping- trust me- I worked a booth for 4 years every Christmas! (and don't miss elvis) more

Fun, fun fun! 10/14/2002

I don't think you'll find a single person who has been to Saturday Market and didn't have a good time. Food, lots of different crafts, much to look at. Don't plan on easy parking though. Pros: lively, great people Cons: horrible parking more

Great for People Watching! 9/11/2002

Saturday Market is a wonderful place to just wander around and look at all the different booths and people. I love going there and it is a great place to watch people. more

What a way to spend the day! 9/4/2002

How can you beat the Saturday Market? We ride the max there and walk right into the middle of fun. My daughter can try out a hoopla hoop, I can eat Tibetan food, my husband can buy a bonsai tree. We love it! Pros: fun, colorful more

flea market? i don't think so..... 8/27/2002

maybe mr. baggins (review below) just needs to get used to portland. saturday market is an institution that is entertaining, full of interesting hand made things (under the bridge), with lots of restaurants in the vicinity (if you don't like the food that is vended). not to mention waterfont park across the street. great people watching, friendly atmosphere. i think it's a great place to spend a sunny saturday or sunday afternoon. oh well, some people just don't get it. live here long enough and you will. more

Flea market is more like it 8/16/2002

I just relocated here and had heard from a co-worker how great the Portland Saturday Market was- so I checked it out. I expected a farmers market with some local crafts but dodged panhandlers and street performers to walk like sheep looking at pottery. Pretty much a whole lot of nothing I would ever need. Very disapponted. I was hungry but when I saw the grease pits that food was being prepared in I decided to pass. more

Come Enjoy The Fun Of Portland! 8/12/2002

What a great way to support Portland by stopping in and grazing by all the colorful trinkets and crafty pleasures! There is something for everyone from the romantic candles to the summer attire, how easily it is to blend in and feel welcome with retailer smiles and simply wonderful vendor foods that make even the most pretentious eater want to give in and sneak a plate, with music usually near-by, a great place to have an afternoon ale and watch the kids get down and do a little Portland Boogie! Pros: easy transit, friendly vendors more

Dirty, nothing to buy 8/9/2002

I find little good about Portland Sat Market. I've been 8-10 times in the past 2 years toating guests there and have yet to see any one of us buy more than a $3 bar of natural soap. Basically next to a gaggle of homeless, the fattiest unhealthiest food you can imagine and a flea market. Yes, there are some local artisans with some neat merchandise- but after those 3 vendors you are surrounded by junk. Why Portlanders loce so much, I'll never know. Get rid of the food court and bring in a farmers market, there a good idea. more

Local Vendors are Great 7/25/2002

Great inexpensive gift ideas. I always bring my friends to Saturday Market whenever they visit. They always love it. Pros: food, art, gifts Cons: outside, rain, only on weekends more

fun, fun fun! 7/19/2002

Not only will you find one of a kind anything, it also has great food. If you're a people watcher this is the place. Great entertainment and a good place to socialize your pooch! Pros: Max stop, different, variety Cons: parking, too many food choices, can't claim to be bor more
