Best

I love that I can stroll in early for a coffee and some breakfast, and end my day with a glass of wine and some fine chocolate. Pros: everything is delicious Cons: pretty ...

Worst

We had lunch at Papa Haydn and skipped dessert to try Pix only to be disappointed. I had the Jane Avril and my husband had the the Royale. The treats were mediocre and overprice...

Pix rocks the late night hang out scene! 8/14/2006

It's too bad that the folks below me had such bad service. Our server was awesome! He recommended some great drinks to match with our dessert that we never would have tried otherwise (raspberry beer and blackberry izze). I was so glad to find another cafe/ restaurant that stays open late! We were here around 11:00pm. We did find a table, but they were still quite busy. I didn't find the dessert to be any better than other popular dessert places, but the ambience was definitely more my style (young, hip, and unpretentious). Pros: atmosphere, late-night hours, beer & wine available more

Bad Bad Bad Service 8/3/2006

I have to say that the service we experienced at Pix Patisserie in North Portland was bad. Our waiter, dark haired girl with big gaps in her teeth was extremely rude. She was very unpleasant from the start and literally scolded us for taking a chair from an open table. I'm sorry, did she prefer that 1 of us stand while several seats remained open? She was just very miserable to deal with. We had to ask another waiter for a chair and thankfully she took over. What kind of business allows staff to treat customers like that? They really need to evaluate this. The desserts are very good. Unfortunately, I think that the owner needs to realize that if they have that level of service, customers will not come back. It is really the customers that keep businesses open, not the unpleasant wait staff. I am not high maintenance at all, we go out to restaurants all the time, I just couldn't believe that we had service like this. I was just very disappointed, especially since we went there for a birthday celebration. Pros: Good desserts & drinks Cons: Rude Service more

Unimpressed 7/29/2006

Rude and dirty is not the same thing as eccentric, something Portland hipsters have a hard time grasping. more

Class. 7/10/2006

Conversation, coffee, atmosphere, interesting waiters.... sugar. Yum. Basil icecream, earl grey truffle, pixie, pistachio macaroon. Chocolate stout icecream floats?! Oh yeah. They've got it. more

Great dessert 6/27/2006

The Pix is always a hotspot on weekend nights, I usually order dessert to go; it's a great place to stop by on the way home after dnner. The desserts are very tasty, rich, and have a great visual appeal. I like the ""Jubilee,"" but everything I've had there has been great. A great date spot. more

Sometimes great, sometimes not 3/15/2006

I would like to delete my review but Citysearch will not let me so I am replacing my review with this. Pros: Great atmosphere, Great food, Easy parking Cons: Bad atmosphere, Bad food, Overpriced more

Oh my..... 3/5/2006

This proprietor presents a unique offering with creativity, skill and charm. My friends and I have tried all but a few menu items with consistently luscious results. Go early for the best confection selection, easiest seating and most attentive service, but you're not going to find a sweeter late night spot even if it gets crowded. For those having recently deboarded the spaceship, welcome to Portland. Expect rain, the high cost of living, OLCC regulations and surly-yet-amicable service all over town. You're prolly going to feel better as soon as you have some ganache! Pros: Aphrodite, Menagetrois, Amelie Cons: Not open 24/7 more

Outstanding!! 11/15/2005

Just ate here and it was great, the menu is reasonably priced, the servers informative and aware....we only had room to try one chocolate but it is a must have...the rosemary with a red wine reduction infusion....just amazing....coupled with espresso a delightful end to a meal consisting solely of dessert...need i say more!! Pros: dessert, staff, ambiance more

Fantastique! 7/27/2005

Pix is my favorite dessert place in town, it is, indeed, like stepping into a small cafe in Europe. On my first visit, I had the dobros torte, which was interesting, but not my thing. The recommended sherry was excellent, however. The last time we went, we asked our extremely friendly waitress for recommendations. I would suggest this as the staff is very knowledgable and all have their favorites. We tried the menage a trois tart, which was incredibly delicous, with the tawny port wine, which was also great. For my birthday this past spring, a friend brought me a couple of their treats boxed up, unfortunately, I don't know which ones they were since they were already boxed when I got them. One was a tropical fruit mousse-like concoction and the other was like a cream puff, both were terrific. more

SOOO GOOD! 6/2/2005

This is worth every penny and more! I find it completely reasonable to pay $6 for the unique and indescribably, perfect melody of flavors each little dessert packs in. It gets really crowded in that little place when the after-dinner crowd shows up, so be prepared to stand or get your dessert to go. Pros: Delicious Cons: Small Space, Crowded more

so much fun! 5/8/2005

Pix Patisserie is a really fun place to take those you love, for some really amazing desserts, good music, and good ambience. The desserts never disappoint and the staff has always been very friendly. Sometimes it hurts to drop $6 for a little pastry, although I suppose a taste of heaven is worth it. Pros: unique, tasty, intimate Cons: price more

Exquisite! 2/26/2005

Upon reading several of the reviews of Pix on this site, I felt at once compelled to add my opinion. Pix and Papa Haydn should not be compared, as their concepts of dessert are quite different! Pix is a European patisserie with beautifully crafted morsels of rich sweetness not typically found on this side of the Atlantic. My husband and I have literally tried each of the creations at least once. I can not say enough about the Royale with cheese! I particularly enjoy the Dim Sum evenings as well (roughly once every 4-6 weeks, check the website), as you have the opportunity to have smaller portions of several desserts all in one night! more

Not so Friendly 1/11/2005

I experienced a similar problem with being asked to leave at 10:00, being under 21. The gentleman working at the counter was delightful but the woman (perhaps she is the owner) was very rude. Ordinarily I wouldn't say anything, but it was the second time she had been absolutely impolite and tactless. Other employees not included! On a positive note, the desserts are fantastic, decadent and pure art. Pros: Food, Atmosphere more

Who Knows? 12/17/2004

My wife, 4 year old son and myself were excited to meet our friends here for dessert, as its reputation was growing rapidly. It was a busy Saturday night at about 9:50 when we were seated. Right after our water was brought, we were asked to leave, as minors are not allowed after 10:00 (the sign is posted low down on the end of the pastry case. Not exactly obvious). We found it extremely unprofessional that we were given a table when the staff should have informed us of the rule at the time we asked for a table for ""four adults and a child"". It may be the best dessert spot in town but we will never find out, as we shall never spend a dime in there as a result of our experience. Pros: Unknown Cons: , Unapologetic more

Chocaholics, rejoice! 7/8/2004

I love the little details here, like the baby spoon and lumps of raw sugar they serve alongside your coffee. The menus are adorably presented inside quirky bookcovers and invite leisurely perusal. Or, you can walk up to the dessert case and point! Wine/beer pairings are recommended for every dessert, taking the guesswork out of ordering. The chocolate selections range from rich and decadant to light and sweet. We've tried the Tart Menage a trois, Amelie, Royale, Dobos Torte, and the Concord; all divine. For those who seek something other than chocolate (gasp!), the Pixie is superb and pairs well with a Cassis. The only misstep we've encountered is the Tiki-Tiki, a slightly flavorless passionfruit mousse encircled by a chewy sponge cake. For the adventurous, the beer float is suprisingly satisfying, and draws attention from curious patrons seated nearby - everyone knows they want to try it, but will they??? Pros: small portions, bvg/dessert pairings, little details Cons: , busy on weekends more

AMELIE & WILLY WONKA'S LOVE CHILD 2/3/2004

If you've ever wondered what licking chocolate fluff off an impossibly decadent pastry in a romantic & quirky little cafe in Paris, 1920 would be like--look no further. Pix is that kinda place. Pros: neighborhoody, romantic, open late more

Deelish! 1/31/2004

It's obvious that the owner is a master of all things sweet. I'm sending everyone I know to this place. Try the Royale with cheese. I wanted to melt the dessert and bathe in it. Pros: , Everything Cons: , Nothing more

Typical Spot That Makes Portland Great 8/18/2003

After dinner and drinks a date and I stopped here for dessert. I loved the casual cafe style atmosphere and the desserts were great! It was busy without being crowded which was great, and it was a great end to an evening. I'd definitely recommend taking someone here late at night for great desserts and coffee, even though the later it is the fewer desserts are offered far as I could tell. Pros: Wonderful Dessert, Open Late, Atmosphere more

""Pix""ture Perfect 8/4/2003

Upbeat, quirky, and oh, so good! This new little dessert shop is more like a boutique, with its glass cases displaying edible treasures. Pastry chef, Cheryl Wakerhauser creates masterful desserts that combine unique flavors and artful presentation. To sample as many flavors as possible, try the dim sum which offers bite size samples of the desserts. Be sure to go early, however, because at night the little shop is cramed to capacity with eager patrons. Pros: Innovative Flavors, Upbeat Servers, Reasonable Prices Cons: Little Parking, Very Crowded Weekends more
