Panache On College

I hate Yelp, so I'll leave a review here. I found Olga at Panache on College on an impulse need for highlights two years ago. She did a beautiful job, but also convinced me to let her cut my hair. I was SO hesitant, as I had been going to my other lady for 6 years. Well, she BLEW my previous hair stylist away!! I have fine (but plenty) straight hair, and I'm almost 40. I drive all the way from Napa to go to her. I have tried three other places near me and they fail totally to copy her flawless layers that give me SO much body. Her layers are impeccable. She takes her time to get it JUST RIGHT! Olga - your awesome. more

I recently got my hair done by Olga at Panache. I got a cut and a color. She listened to exactly what I wanted as i showed her magazine pictures and she consulted me on an appropriate hair color before doing anything. I love the cut, but the color is a bit dark. However, I called the next day and Olga replied me immediately saying if I still don't like it after a week she can redo it. Overall I am very happy with my hair and have been getting many compliments! Panache is sort of on the expensive side but I don't feel like i overpaid. Cons: They only take cash more

I have been going to Miyong at Panache for three years, and made regular clients out of two friends as well. Miyong has an amazing attention to detail, and she really listens to you to try and learn what kind of hair you have to figure out the best cut for you as an individual. At this point, I just let her try slightly new styles on me everytime I come in, since I think she knows myhair better than I do! Miyong is also a genius at coloring, and a sweetheart to boot. She's often booked about a week in advance, but she tries to make herself as available as possible. I have never liked a stylist this much. Another plus to Panache is that they have a collection of good stylists (I have friends who go to a number of other stylists there) and so for first-timers or walk-ins, it's a pretty good bet. I've been going to see Peter Dinsmore @ Panache for about 6 months now and have never been happier with a stylist! Peter is easy going and yet completely professional with a great eye for fashion. He?s never been late (although I have) and is always so fun to talk with! He makes sure to keep his clients in the loop about what?s going on with their hair and has always made sure that I left totally satisfied with my hair transformation. I have never before trusted someone so completely with my hair and hope I never have to? Peter?s a keeper! Give him a call and book an appointment, you won?t be disappointed! I highly recommend Peter Dinsmore at Panache. I have never ""had"" a hairdresser in my life - have always received haircuts from whoever was available at whichever salon happened to have a convenient appointment. I received many good and some mediocre cuts, but no one has ever been memorable enough for me to...well...remember him. This has changed. I will return to Peter. \r \r Peter was friendly, professional (has worked at Vidal Sasson in SF, and Jungle Red Salon in the Castro), knowledgeable, willing to be conservative with his cutting of length, but able to give me an amazing haircut once I told him to do what he thought best. \r \r I especially appreciated his card file with information he recorded about my hair type, the products I use, and the work he did -- an attention to detail I have never experienced in my sampling of salon professionals. When I went to Pinache at a friend's recommendation I realized that I was possibly going to throw 50 bucks away on a haircut. Previously, I had gone to generic barbers or cut my own hair. I had a an appointment with Peter Dinsmore who obviously knew his stuff. He recommended that I should, if I were willing, try a new style. He spent time with me looking through pictures with me and explaining how he was going to cut my hair so that it would look like the picture I liked best. Then he cut my hair. One thing I liked about the experience other than the fact that the haircut was amazing was how impressed I was with Peter's skill. He's an artist and somehow he cuts his own hair, which is insane. I had never gotten a haircut where I felt the barber or stylist deserved what I paid them, but I could tell that Peter wanted to do a great job and he did. Well worth the money. I highly recommend him if you want a good style. He has a lot of experience and is pretty much a grandmaster hair styling ninja. He also suggested I color my hair, which I did, which was also a good and fun idea. So thank you Peter for the best hair styling event of my life. I walked into Panache by chance. I desperately needed a hair cut, and couldn't find anywhere highly recommended in Berkeley. I was really lucky to get Peter! My hair was frizzy and full of split ends, so he gave me a treatment that made the texture and colour so much better that even my boyfriend noticed! He really listened to what I wanted and explained what he was doing while he cut my hair. He's a total perrfectionist, so it takes some time, but the cut was the best one I've ever had. I've been to many highly recommended salons in New York, London, and San Francisco, but I've never had anyone willing to take the time to put every hair in place. He's very talented and knows all the tricks for persuading unwieldy hair to do what he wants. I'm usaually fairly nomadic when it comes to salons, but this time I immediately made an appointment for a few months later. Go see Peter at Panache (don't know about anybody else). I went in for a change in hairstyle and wanted something shorter and healthier. He gave me several ideas and options that he thought would work well with my blondish wavy hair. Together, we decided to try something a bit edgy and the next day I decided I couldn't rock it. I called him and he came in special for me that night and gave me a similar, but more classic haircut that I love. Peter listened to what I wanted and went the extra mile to make sure that I was truly happy with my hair. I have received several complements from people who always tell the truth. it's basically as good as a supercuts - but with a cooler name. for one, you can't do a hack job on someone's head and then say ""don't worry, it'll grow."" A stylist at Panache recently told me this when she ""trimmed"" my bangs to about a centimeter long. She just started hacking away, it was terrifying. She said it was cute, like the girl in the movie Amelie. Um, yah, but I'm not Amelie! That's not how i wear my bangs. I decided to try Panache after living in Berkeley for 2 years. I had always gone into San Francisco for my past haircuts, but decided to try them since they had 1 good review on citysearch and their prices were decent. I made an appointment with an expert stylist, but when I arrived, they sent me to a hair dresser that couldn't speak english, had less than a years experience, and her 2nd day at the salon! When she was done, I was appauld by what she had done! I don't consider my hair to be a stairway to hell, but that's what it looked like! They claimed it was my highlights. One of the hair dressers even had the nerve to say ""it's just hair...it'll grow back"", THE NERVE! Thanks these morons, I now have to go and get it cut again by a REAL PROFESSIONAL. more

I wanted highlights all over my hair instead the hairstylist said that that wasn't ""in,"" so I listened, the entire time she seamed to be bothered by me, like she didn't want to do my hair, the hairdressers next to me were so much nicer, I wish one of them would have done my hair. The job was okay and $120.00 later blown-off by the stylist, I left. I still gave her the benefit of the doubt. I returned to get my roots done and she passed me along to another stylist who was hard to understand, she did the job, but you could still see my roots! the girl at the front desk looked at me and then called upstairs to the manager he looked down and then she gave me the price of $80.00 I was upset, I hated my hair. These people don't even have set prices. more

a friend had recommended panache to me and after reading the positive review i thought why not...bad idea...i had gone in with fairly long hair, about midway down my back w/ layers and wanted a few inches cut off so that it'd be about two or so inches below my shoulders...instead i have hair that is above my shoulders and looking something like the friends 'rachel' cut...and the stylist kept saying that it was cute, that'd it'd grow fast as she tryed to cover up her bad cut by blow drying it and crushing it flat on my head. i've had haircuts that were cheaper and looked a lot better. hopefully my hair will grow fast... Excellent place for hair! I love it. I have never gotten a bad hair cut from there. Stylists are nice and friendly and very competent!!! All my friends are in love with Panache. Highly recommended!!!!! more
