We are alarmed at the recent negative reviews and don't believe they are coming from a credible source. We have strong evidence these negative reviews are coming from a competing salon. SHAME ON THEM !! We stand behind our quality of work and the talent of our Team. Our salon has been honored with some of the following awards: ~"Best Facial" Citysearch Phoenix 2006 ~"Best Salon" Citysearch Phoenix 2005 and 2003 ~ 944 Magazine 2006 Platinum Award ~ and More . . . . We invite you to "Experience Our Difference". We're sure you won't be disappointed. http://www.moodswingssalon.com Pros: Customer Service, Highly Trained Staff, Atmosphere Cons: none more

Kelly Reed: Best Eyebrow Wax 3/18/2006

I have gone all over the valley and have had my eyebrows overwaxed and butchered. I was fet up finding waxers at random, so I did some research. I found Kelly Reed. She was featured in Allure and her speciality happened to be eyebrow waxing. Not only does she have a great personality, but she also spent time carefully analyzing my eyebrows. I left with the most fabulous eyebrows I've ever had in my life. They opened up my face and even were precisely symmetrical. A good eyebrow wax is like a sudden makeover. We are very lucky to have a talented waxer in the valley. Pros: free delicious tea, relaxing rooms, customer service more

Out To Lunch 3/17/2006

This salon is not all that is rated. I went in for a trim and came out with a bush wacking that looked like a two year old cut my hair. Everyone has asked where I get my hair cut and I have to tell them it was this place. Not good, inexperienced salon with big big prices and no real talent. Worse than disappointing, it is horrible. Find another salon with a real truth rating. This one has to be hype. Pros: None Cons: Everything horrible more

Wacked Hair - Stay Away 3/13/2006

This is not the salon for a new look or style because stylist cannot figure out what style is. I Traveled the world and never had a bad man's haircut until I went to Mood Swings -overpriced place, parking bad, staff acts like trash and there is no class or ambience here. Rating should be 1.0 on scale and I am comparing to upscale salons in town. This place is not a nice place to experience - run while you have hair left on your head. Pros: Tempe, tempe, tempe Cons: bad staff, parking bad, crooked haircut more

WORST!!!!!!!!! of Phoenix 2/9/2006

By far one of the WORST salons in the valley. Prices are VERY HIGH, easy to book an apt if you want to arrive and WAIT 30MINS PAST YOUR APPT. HORRIBLE staff. The owner needs to get a life, and consider her clients over her staff that she likes to talk with and pull away from your cut. Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

Terrible Cut! 2/2/2006

I wrote the following review several months ago after a negative experience at the salon. I cannot believe that the salon is trying to imply that my poor review is a product of a competing salon. I would suggest they listen to their customers who had poor experiences and try to address the issues to make improvements. I just moved to Arizona and went to Mood Swings after hearing all the hype. My stylist was terrible, after 45 minutes of trying to simply cut long layers into my hair she made it look extremely choppy and uneven. I tried to get her to fix it for another half hour, but she kept making it worse so I told her to forget it and left with a terrible cut! A few weeks later I got my hair done for a wedding and the new stylist commented on what a bad job my previous stylist had done, so I know it wasn't just in my head! Besides that, the attitude and atmosphere were horrible: my stylist was rude and the air conditioning in the middle of the summer was not working -- I would never recommend this salon! more

No Big Deal 1/27/2006

I was dissappointed with my 1st and last visit. No consultaion, scalp massage was maybe 10 seconds... left without the change I was looking for - I even took a photo with me of the cut I wanted. Waited at least 30 minutes beyond my appoinment time and did not feel welcome. It's a very open space - no privacy and converstion is difficult due to the noise level. Cons: Stylist run late, very pricey, noisy more

Kelly's the best!! 1/22/2006

Kelly Reed, the aesthetician, is the best I've been to! She's funny, does great work, has great conversation with her patients and really helps the experience to be an enjoyable one! I highly recommend going to see her! Pros: Great Service more

Great 12/30/2005

I had moved into the area not long ago and found great reviews here. I called and got an appointment on the same day! Also a great value. A women's cut doesn't come cheap, but for a salon of this type, and all of the extras it was well worth it. The staff was friendly instead of snobby, and it was well kept. I don't know if I would go to the same stylist again, but I'll definately be back! Pros: good value, atmosphere, friendly Cons: parking more

Great Color and Cut 12/15/2005

Mood Swings Salon was an awesome experience! I had my hair highlighted and cut and I love it! The staff was professional and the artwork was georgeous. I arrived to the salon a few minutes early, and after I checked in I was greeted by thier massage therapist who gave me a great chair massage! What a nice touch! My stylist took the time to consult with me so I felt confident when she started my color. (Which is always scary when you go to someone new!) After highlighting my hair she shampooed me and gave me a great haircut. I really appreciated how she took in to consideration the fact that I dont have the time or skill for a high-maintainence hair style, so the cut I got is really workable for me to duplicate at home. Overall I had a great experience there. I highly recommend this salon! Pros: atmosphere, staff, professionalism more

Over Rated 12/12/2005

The appointment was not on time, the parking was difficult, the stylist was large and unkept appearance and gossipped about the other employees - didnt want to hear about Iowa through the haircut... cut and blow dry were horrible. Pressured to buy product. Pros: Nice receptionists, tempe convenience Cons: Expensive, parking, gossip more

Turn down the volume! 11/30/2005

All the positive reviews of this place are right on for cuts, amenities and the professionalism of the staff. The only problem is the noise level. In the 4 years I've gone here the music volume has gone up, up, up. I have to shout now to get my stylist to hear me. Add to that all the other people and stylists shouting it just keeps going up. I'm sure the owners think this adds energy but it's only making it intolerable. Turn it down and this'd be a better experience to go with that calming tea. Pros: good cuts, spare hip space, professional staff Cons: noise, noise, noise more

An Indignant, Clean Cut American Kid 11/14/2005

After arriving for my 5:15pm male haircut I absorb their wonderous artwork and soon sit down. Then, some stylist snidely says to me, "Gee sir, you're looking a little excited there, for just getting a hair cut!" Having already gracefully handled how loud their music was by remaining calm, and trying to be as understanding as possible about waiting (20 minutes), I was suddenly the unlucky receipient of this hairdresser's unsolicited remark. Nobody likes to wait (especially when you're as popular, glamorous, amiable and fuzzy as me) but nobody likes having sombody tell them that they aren't waiting appropriately. Or maybe, jeering at other hairdressers' clients is just all part of the Mood Swings rigmarole. Also, I felt that if my response indicated even the least amount of disdain, she probably would have attempted to spank me with her hairdryer. A half-hour wait, good clean looking, but $35.00(bitpricey) Pros: Nice kids, Stylist was nice, artwork Cons: crowded, bad parking, loud music more

So Incredible! 10/31/2005

After cutting my own hair due to bad experiences at high end salons, I decided to give it another try. I realize that there are some things in life that you have to pay for in order for quality, and a good haircut is one of those things. I was impressed with the experience from start to finish: from the polite young man I spoke with on the phone, to the woman who called me days later to make sure I enjoyed myself. I was especially tickled by my stylist, who seemed thoroughly focused on what it was that I was looking for in a style. She wasnt afraid to dig in and give me what I asked for: which I had found in the past was near impossible. I WILL be back, and I cant stop telling my friends where I got this fab new look! Pros: Great Products, Hand Massage, Validated Parking Cons: Stairs, Music more

nothing special 10/24/2005

I've been looking for a new salon to rave about-- and was hoping that the Aveda salon in one of the least-convenient areas might be it-- but, no. The staff seem to be sweet kids but, after 5 visits, I'll say that my stylist only ever listens to about half of what I say. They go out of their way to offer tea-- it's 2 sips of cold tea in a paper cup. There is no privacy or calmness to the atmosphere. I'm not a fan of the artwork but was told that it's changed out often-- but it's been there for at least my last 3 visits (6 wks. apart). My stylist did get my lowlights right-- yeah!!-- but in the process has left me with awfully yellow (not pale ash blond) highlights. i don't feel pampered when I go here. Pros: Aveda products, eyebrow wax, young staff/clientell Cons: access/pkg. options, quality of cut/color, chaotic atmosphere more

Very disappointed 9/20/2005

After reading so many stellar reviews of Mood Swings, I was really excited to try them. I have hated my fine, limp hair for years and I left my home in Casa Grande with high hopes that they would be able to do something with it. The parking downtown was a nightmare, but they did validate my parking after I finally found a spot. I told my hairstylist that he could do something pretty funky/drastic since I had recently left corporate America to go to massage therapy school, so I no longer had to conform. All he did was trim it. I was very upset. I could have gone somewhere and paid $13 for a basic trim, but I was out $45 here. I was hoping to surprise my husband with a new 'do that night, but instead he was upset over how much I paid for a trim. Pros: Friendly staff, Clean Cons: Parking, Trendy atmosphere, Stylist didn't listen more

35 bones for high quality, honest haircut 8/16/2005

scalp and hand massage, open till 9pm. Not pretentious and they validate parking on busy Mill Ave. I will be back, I used to hit up a Regis when I lived in Tucson, after mediocre and poor cuts at Supercuts,SPortsclips and some barber who gave me free beer - 35 dollars is worth a quality cut. Pros: Quality, Style, Attractive women Cons: Price, Location more

why did I wait so long? 7/8/2005

I went to Mane Attraction in December and was very displeased with my experience there. I walked away, paying over 200 dollars (color, cut and style, and products), with a hairstyle that quickly went up into a ponytail and stayed there. I finally made a decision to go to Mood Swings, based on the numerous reviews on this site. This place is fantastic! I was able to get an appointment on the same day I called and it was with a fantastic stylist. No more ponytails for this girl! The people there are very cordial and above all else, normal real people (no fakeness, like I experienced at Mane Attraction). I made my next appointment and can not wait to go back! Pros: stylists, service, products more

Best salon i've ever found 6/23/2005

Mood Swings is honestly the greatest salon i've found. The atmosphere is very hip, but always professional and pleasant. The second you enter you're greeted and offered tea or water while you wait. The stylists are very knowledgable- I've gone for cut and coloring for the last year and always been beyond pleased with the results. Before every haircut you get a scalp and hand massage. Everyone does their best to make you comfortable. They've gone out of their way to accomodate me when i can't go until after work, staying until 9pm to finish up. The pricing is EXTREMELY reasonable for a salon of this quality- my regular cut is only $45. I honestly can't say enough about mood swings- the atmosphere, staff, and service is absolutely perfect. I cant wait to start getting massages and facials there in addition to my regular service. Pros: Professional, Reasonably priced, Skilled more

Very Satisfied First Timer 4/29/2005

I went to the same stylist for over 15 years, and had been searching for a salon that matched my former hairdresser's skills. And I found it here. Service is friendly and efficient, the specials fantastic, and most important, the stylists very skilled. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great service and a great cut! Pros: Friendly personnel, Clean & well-kept, Skilled stylists Cons: A bit pricey, Location, Younger crowd more
