Mike's Professional Tree Service

I found that Mike's crew did an excellent job today pruning trees that were overgrown in my yard. I had put it off for a number of years, but with winter just around the corner, I wanted to make sure my home was safe from falling branches from snow. I would recommend his service to anyone in the area. more

Just wanted to say that Mike's did a great job removing some large tree limbs over my house right in the pouring rain. They did the job safely for both the crew and my home and left no mess behind. Great Job!! more

I'm putting on an addition to my home and had a few tree's the needed to be removed. The process was much easier than I expected. The office gave me an estimate on what I had in mind for the area, the guys were out that afternoon to survey and give me a quote, and within two days they were back to do the job. What I thought was going to take weeks took no time at all. Very happy to have used Mike's. more

What's in a handshake? Trust and agreement between two parties. Mike's Tree Service of Coventry arrived after Irene and gave me a quote on removal of two trees, 3 stumps, and some dead branches on a standing tree. We shook hands on his quote and Mike was gone. The trees are gone, the logs are gone, the stumps are gone but the dead branches were not removed. I called Mike to tell him about the dead branches and he aplogized he forgot to give his crew instructions to remove them and assured me they would be taken down as soon as he could get back to me. How often does someone admit an error and is willing to fix it? Mike's Tree Service is a job well done and Mike knows what's in a handshake! Well done. Thank you Mike, Deanna Wright more

Very surprised by the last few posts I just read as I found I saved money going with Mike's. After making several phone calls I found that I was being quoted $100-$200 less than the others. That being said I found that his crews showed up in a timely manner, seeing we just had the hurricane, I expected to wait for several days. The tree that fell in my yard was removed and I was able to go on with my day. Yes there were a few small twigs/wood chips left behind, but I hired Mike to remove the tree not manicure my lawn. more

Sunday morning, 8/28, when winds were pretty strong with the tropical storm Irene arriving, I had a tree fall on top of my roof. My insurance company advised me to call professionals and remove the tree from the house, so it didn?t cause any structural damage. We?ve used Mike?s Professional services before and were charged $650 to remove one tree. Based on that fact, I called them and asked them to come and remove a tree. My mistake for not getting a quote, BUT what am I going to do knowing stronger winds were still coming. Mike arrived with a crane, wood chipper and a crew of 5 guys. He looked at the tree and said it would cost $4,500.00. I was shocked, but after thinking of how much damage the tree could do to my house if NOT removed, I agreed. They worked for about an hour. On Monday, I called and spoke with Mike, to see if he could reduce the bill. The price was exorbitant and he took advantage of the situation and the fact that people were under pressure. His response was: ?I told you the price beforehand and I didn?t put any pressure on you?. Mike definitely took advantage of the storm to gouge the prices. During these hard times, when people already struggling, with the storm threatening to cause more damages, Mike decided to take care of himself first. It?s appalling! I informed Mike that I will be filing a complaint against him with Attorney General?s office and I urge everyone who is not satisfied with his services to do the same. more

It's the day before the hurricane, and Mike's Unprofessional tree service company came to my house in the rain without having an appointment scheduled. Which isn't a big deal because I would rather get the tree done since the hurricane will be arriving tomorrow. Upon their arrival I spoke with his foreman and I told him that a few days ago I spoke to Mike's receptionist at his office to confirm the quote. She said that it would be done for $500 with the stump. The foreman confirmed the price with me and began to assemble the trucks. We moved our cars out of the way and about 5 minutes before the tree was going to be removed Mike pulled up and came out and talked to me and he said the tree is coming down for $650. I told Mike that the quote that was given to me was for $500. I told him that I would do it for $600 but Mike refused and told his employees to stop and pulled the workers from the site and then drove off like a crazy person. So, my opinion is that Mike used the Hurricane to charge me more money for a tree removal job that was quoted prior to the hurricane being $500 NOT $650. Mike's Tree Removal Company is 100% unprofessional and would use a hurricane "" bait and switch"" to jack up his prices instead of keeping his quoted price. I would not recommend his company at all for all of the above reasons but most importantly the way he treated me was unprofessional!!!! MIKE'S WORD IS WORTHLESS! DO NOT TRUST HIM ON YOUR PROPERTY! I have seen and cared for over 10,000 patients in Rhode Island since my HONORABLE discharge from the USAF. I'll match my word against his anytime. more

I called for a quote to remove one big tree, and Mike came out the very next morning at 7am. After consulting with me, we agreed to remove *13* trees. His price was very attractive, and not much more than others quotes for just the single monster tree. We shook hands, and he didn't want any money until the work was done to our satisfaction. They showed up promptly at 7am the next day with a bucket truck, crane, grinding machine, dump trucks, and 7 or 8 guys. Proof of insurance papers were given. It took them about 5 hours to remove the trees. The next day at promptly 7am, their logging truck came and took away 2 full loads of tree trunks. On work day 3 (today), the stump grinding crew arrived at 6:30am, and erased any trace of the trees. The big machine made it look easy :) They cleaned up the yard and took away the mess. This took about 90 minutes. The transaction couldn't have been better, and I am extremely pleased. Highly recommended! I saw the negative reviews here, too, and some of them are likely to be from disgruntled former employees or competitors; based on the wording. (some are probably real, too) The owner was pleasant to me, and so were the workers. I don't know if the other reviews were fake, or if they have greatly improved, but my experience was very positive. They also had a positive experience removing some large trees a few months ago at my uncles house, and were fantastic. (and then later for 2 of his neighbors) I hope this is helpful Mike more

Had contacted another company prior to contacting Mike's and they were supposed to come on a Wednesday morning at 7am and then after waiting 2 hours we finally called the company and were informed that they were not coming and could not make it out to our house for another week and a half. At that point we called Mike's and we were able to have Mike himself come out for an estimate the next day which was a Friday morning and gave us an excellent price to remove 2 large trees and trim 2 others that were leaning over our pool and house and said he would be here Monday am. Well they showed up with more trucks then we expected and they had the job done and cleaned up within an hour and a half. And the price we paid was what he quoted us and all of the guys were great. None of them were rude or unprofessional as stated in other reviews. Before we contacted Mike's another company informed us not to go with Mike's and to read the reviews on here before we make a decision. Well we did and we couldn't disagree more with some of the reviews on here nor did we feel bullied. We are very happy we went with Mike's. If we decide to have more cut down in the future we will definitely contact Mike's again!! more

Hired Mike to remove 1 huge oak from by backyard, which had no access except through a gate. Mikes' price was not only reasonable but fair. His guys were in and out in a matter of 4 hours and when they left there wasn't so much as a leaf left on the ground. Workers very courteous and professional. My definition of an expert is someone who makes a difficult job look easy. These guys were experts. just called him back for another job of trimming some trees in my front yard. Told Mike what my wife wanted them to look like. When she got home the guys were gone and the work looked exactly the way she wanted. Mike, again you knocked it out of the park. more

We had used Mike's Professional Tree Service for a small job many years ago...and we had a very good experience...\r \r This past week, we hired Mike's team to do a bigger job...trees removed on Saturday, wood removed on Monday, stump grinding done on Tuesday, exactly as promised. Crew was skilled, careful and polite. I don't understand some of these negative reviews...frankly, the reviews gave me some pause initially...but then I met with Mike for the estimate and I felt pretty certain (once again) that he was an honest businessman who knew his stuff. Anybody can say anything anonymously on the internet....based on my just completed experience, (and I can only speak from my personal experience) I would recommend this service. Oh, and Gail in Mike's office is efficient and a nice person. Good experience all around!\r \r more

mikes unprofessional where do i start with this companies problems, mike is extremely rude he feels he is better than anyone else, his work ethic is extremely unfair he is more worried about your wallet then how you feel about your project or getting it done quickly and correctly. this companys safety history is 2nd too none he has had men seriously injured working for him and did not care. i seen one of his trucks on its side just a few days ago. just read these reviews he is a horrible excuse of a man and a business owner. more

First of all if you want a short fat, bald guy with a temper coming to your door looking for nothing but money call this guy. Expect harrasment and poor conversation. His crew if filled with little to no experience men and 70% guatamalans working 60 hours a week at minimum. He try to joke around with you but with all his pending lawsuits its hard for him to be that calm. He will mess up your driveway and sell you mixed wood (green + 4 month seasoned) whether you say soft,hard or seasoned. Look around! All 3 locations of his are setup next to veteran landscapers and hardworking men so his mountain of loam or wood would look better next to you. Get your own spot Mike. He trys to outdo everyone especially the customer. And he might know a thing or two about his buisness if he actually got down and tried driving his maze of a workplace, tried using the little to none tools in his toolbox and try welding with no gloves. The place is a joke .He'll teach you nothing and talk like he knows more than you. Just exspect him to be setup in his office staring out his window, waiting for money and thinking everythings going all right Just remember he has small man syndrome. Spend your money on a neighbor or a good tree service not Mike's UNprofessional Tree Service. more

I called Mike's Tree service after hearing the add on the Helen Glover talk radio show. Mike showed up early & gave me an estimate. The deal was sealed with a hand shake & a smile. The next day the crew showed up & began the very large job, greater than ten trees to be removed & trimming of others. The job was done quickly & efficiently. Some of the very large trees were very close to the house &/or power lines. This was not a problem for the crew. The next day they returned & completed the job. Due to a misunderstanding on my part Mike's crew had to maneuver large tree trunks around a vehicle in the driveway. They could have left & not completed the job. However they did not. Even though the vehicle in the driveway made their job very difficult they completed the task at hand. I was very pleased with the job they did. Professional, efficient, prompt and at the price Mike quoted. Mike is personable & it was a pleasure doing business with him. I would use his services again & would recommend him to family & friends.\r I'm very happy I did not see all the negative postings before I contracted with him. I am pleased with the job completed. I would highly recommend not using this company! I called for an estimate and when the crew arrived I advise I only wanted an estimate! they tried to bully me into paying $500 for just showing up. They stayed on my property until I threatend to call the police. They left but said they would bill me. \r This company should not be in busines! more

I talked directly to Mike regarding a trimming he did on a privacy hedge that we share with our neighbor. Not only did they leave the job without completing it but they left an eye sore and debris in my driveway from the trimming. He was absolutely rude and he is a bully.\r There are much better company's to choose from where you don't have to be bullied and told you are a liar. more

This has got to be the worst service I have received in a while. Very pushy and arrogant. Do not use them they do not do what they say. He was not the cheapest either. Becareful of his broken promises. more

Horrible service. Removed tree instead of trimming, and still billed me for the service.\r \r Left bullying voice mail and letters.\r \r If he does work when you are not present, beware! He will remove the wrong trees and then bully you into paying him. \r \r Would not reccommend to anyone. Cons: Removed trees instead of trimming. Not acknowledge error. more

They were supposed to come on a Tuesday to do the work and did not show up until Wednesday. They showed up late in the day and did not finish. It took them until the following week to half complete the job. They never finished chasing all of the roots in the yard. It was a horrible job and they left very large ruts all over the back. It is going to end up costing more to fix the yard between dirt, grass seed and equipment to fix their mess than if I had taken two weeks off work unpaid and did the job myself. DO NOT USE THEM HORRIBLE SERVICE. Cons: Horrible service more
