OMG!!! We went to Midori because we heard some really good things including the reviews on this website. I feel I owe it to myself and all of you to tell you about our awful experience!!!! Let me preface my comments by saying our first trip to Midori was good so we were excited to go back. BIG MISTAKE!!!! We first sat down and the ambiance leaves a LOT to be desired - a mom and pop joint, old and dated. As long as the foods good, the decor can be forgiven. NOT the case here!! We went in tonight at 6:45 pm. Prime dinner hour, right? Counting us, they had 4 people in the restaurant. Never a good sign. We ordered 2 rolls of sushi. We knew it was coming when the microwave dinged in the kitchen. Another bad sign!! That's 2, if you're counting. We ordered the ""Crazy Roll"" and it had old salmon that had warm and cold spots. Yuuuuuccckkkkk. The microwaved hot sauce drizzled on top was a classy touch. We also ordered another equally forgettable roll which name escapes me. We ordered the mixed tempura appetizer which came with a piece of fried carrot, eggplant, sweet potato, and shrimp. The tempura batter should be light and fluffy, but it tasted heavy and flat!!!! And the veggies were too thick and while fried on the outside, hard and raw in the middle... kinda gross. The manager pulled herself away from the television set (must have been a commercial) and stopped by to ask if we were ready to order our entrees. My wife tried to ask her a question and the manager managed to just walk away!! Awesome guest service!!!!! Eventually our waitress came by to take our entree order. I ordered the ""dolsot bi bim bap."" It was fair at best. My wife ordered a soup with tofu and veggies, which came with rubber... I mean calamari. I tried it and it was inedible!! We told our waitress and she took it away. The best part of the meal was the time we spent together; everything else was HORRIBLE!!! The manager knew we sent the food back because it was inedible yet she didn't feel it was important enough to get off her fat ass and check on us. I'm sure she thinks she's good at her job though!!!! I hope they read this review!! Head's up - start cleaning your kitchen and invest is some plastic gloves!!! I will be calling the health department in the morning. If you don't believe me, please go in and take a look. Just do yourself a huge favor and bring your own food!!!! BTW, we were charged for the soup!!!!! I asked our waitress to take it off our check and she said her manager said NO. I told our waitress that was fine; we just will never be back!! The manager, who was sitting at a table about 6 feet away, STILL DIDN'T FEEL THIS WAS SOMETHING SHE MIGHT WANT TO GET UP FOR. SHE LITERALLY GLANCED OVER AND WENT RIGHT BACK TO WATCHING TELEVISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

My husband and I went to Midori b/c I had a craving for Korean food and didn't want to go far. It definitely did not disappoint! I had the Marinated Beef Spare Ribs (which were tender and sweet) and my husband had the spicy marinated pork (which was very spicy, but had sweet undertones). We also ordered the Yakitori (which was OK). The little side plates they give you had interesting things in them, all cold. My favorite of these was the cucumbers with spicy sauce on them. I'm definitely going back! more

Don't let the ""whole-in-the wall"" ambiance fool you. This place has legit sushi and Korean-style Chinese food. The fact that most of the patrons there are Asians or mixed couples tells you the food they serve is excellent and authentic. Food here is much better than other more popular places, and service is good. In fact, although it's a tiny place, they have a small nondescript plaque showing they won a ""Best Sushi Award"" few years back. I would rate it higher, but it doesn't have much of an ambiance. more

You may not believe it but it's true. I've been to Peter's, RuSan's, Ken's, PM's, Samurai's, Fulin's, Wild Ginger, and several other ""popular"" places for sushi and this one is just better. The quality is excellent, the flavors are fantastic, the price is more than reasonable, and the portions are sizable. This place is truly the best kept secret in Nashville. My wife and I found this place a couple years ago and couldn't believe it. It doesn't look like much but it's got it where it counts. This is authentic food, not club music and frosted glass tea lights. No floral ginger sculptures or signed head shots on the wall. This is the kind of place you go when you want to experience real sushi. The staff are always friendly and I've never had to wait on a table. We go there about once a week. You can get four rolls for two people w/ salads and still only spend around $30. Try the Lion King Roll. It's a funny name but it's wrapped with a baked Salmon and it's loaded with goodness. Their Spicy Salmon and Tuna are only 3.95 and are amazing. more

I literally stumbled upon Midori about 6 years ago when walking past it. Being that it was a tiny hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant next door to Goodwill, I wasn't expecting it to be a stellar restaurant at all. I had a craving though, and decided to give it a try. I have been hooked ever since. The chef and servers are all so friendly. I've never, ever had to wait on a table, or more than 15 minutes for a to-go order. The sushi is by far the best I've had in all of Middle TN. The portions are enormous, especially for the price. I have never, ever been disappointed in my food there. I don't like avocado at all, but the chef is always happy to make substitutions. Their health scores are always near perfection, and it is always clean. It's strong point is not it's decor or ambiance, but I really don't care... when I want great sushi, I go here. Over the years, I've introduced many friends to Midori, and they have all become loyal patrons as well. They recently got their beer license as well, which is great. This is one of my favorite places to eat at. Everyone I bring to eat with me becomes an instant fan, too. They serve Korean Entrees and Japanese Sushi. I mostly eat the Korean Entrees and I've loved everyone one I've ordered. My favorite is the spicy marinated pork. The price is great for the amount of food you get - especially during lunch prices! Many of the Korean Entrees come with additional appetizer-type dishes. Pros: Great food, no waiting, fast service Cons: none yet! more

I love sushi, and I have eaten it all over Nashville. Midori is hands-down the best. I've never seen such large pieces of raw fresh fish in my life. I don't even eat the rice that comes w/the nigri--the fish is so huge, i don't have to! The rolls are great-- i love the Rock N Roll. There's never really much of wait even if it's packed--that sushi chef totally rocks! The only thing is that this place is not trendy, etc. People don't come to this place for atmosphere--it's all about the food. Luckily, I live in Lenox Village which is near by, so I get the advantage of being close by. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center--you have to be looking for it to find it. I've had sushi in several restaurants around town and this is by far the best. Wherever they get their fish, it is just fresher and better tasting than any other sushi I've had anywhere. A true hidden treasure. Pros: Really good/fresh sushi. Cons: Takes a long time to get there. more

Well when the chef leaves the menu changes. I have been to Midori 6 times in the past 4 years. I really haven't been there in about 2 years. I decided I would go see how it was doing because I really enjoyed it the first 5 times I went. They had a really unique dragon roll that was wrapped in cucumber (which they don't have anymore.) The service isn't as attentive as it used to be. The food was prepared well and tasted good. Then about halfway through both the new ""green dragon"" roll and the rainbow roll I ended up swallowing a bone???? and almost another but luckily I realized what it was and spat it out???? I've eaten sushi hundreds of times in the past 8 or 9 years but I've never had a BONE in my sushi. I really don't understand it. I really felt disappointed after the bones and didn't even want to finish the meal. I'm really not too happy with the changes that have happened there. On a Friday night, this place was dead; only 2 tables occupied. This place was recommended by a Korean store owner nearby, so I thought I try it out. It has a decent list of Korean dishes, but of course, it wasn't one of those BBQ houses like you see in bigger cities. It was late, I was hungry, so I ordered the spicy beef soup with rice. An assortment of 8 dishes of bahn-chan came with the dinner. The soup was somewhat bland with shredded beef, glass noodles, and lots of soup. I enjoyed the squid kim-chi, one that I have not tried. The service was good; the waitress was very generous and attentive. The decor, though, was very minimalistic: white walls and tan wood paneling. Pros: Service Cons: Lack of patrons more

Well, that's not saying much. There isn't a good Korean restaurant in Nashville. You just have to accept it. Because of that, Midori stands out because it's not so horrible as the others. The first time we had Midori, we actually ate there. The food was very good. The second time, we got our food to go. Our pajun was burnt and rock hard (which is what happens if you microwave it too many times). Our nak-ji-bok-eum (stir-fried octopus, which is tastier than it sounds) wasn't so great either. What few pieces we had of the octopus were swimming in a pool of the sauce, which isn't really desirable in a stir-fry. The nastiest part though was that we found rice (old, stuck-together kind) in the bahn-chan. We stopped eating after that. I think it's pretty customary for Korean restaurants to ""recycle"" their bahn-chans. It's nasty, but I think a lot of them do it. A lot of restaurants in bigger cities make a point of dumping out the bahn-chan in a recycling tray/bin at the table when they clear the tables, but apparently, such sanitary practice is not practiced at Midori. No trendy tie-dye rolls or annoying loud techno music to make this favorite place of mine appeal to the hip crowd. Not that those rolls cant be fun, or that they dont taste great they are just not what Midori is about. Midori is about great quality fish, awesome rice, and really fresh veggies. You will find some designer rolls, but this is the place to go if you mainly want awesome nigiri, and other basic rolls. As far as portions are concerned they dont skimp. The Nigiri comes with a huge slab of fish on top rather than the sliver of fish other restaurants in Nashville pawn off on us for high prices. For value on the dollar nothing compares to Midori, and its taste is the equal or better of any other sushi restaurants in Nashville.
