This place is a good buy for the money. The atmosphere isn't all that hot as it is overcrowded and loud. I think that this restaurant is definately overated. The food is average T...

I took out-of-town guests for lunch, and was very disappointed in the quality of their food. I am Hispanic, born and raised here in San Antonio, so I know Mexican food, and was disgusted that Mi Tierra which is a big tourist attractIon would offer such an awful representation of Mexican Food. I will not ever go back, nor will I recommend Mi Tierra to anyone. By the way, the service was terrible.\r \r A. Rodriguez more

This is where I get my everyday bread, terrible pun intended. They have a wonderful selection everyday and they try to mix it up every once in a while just to be flexible. more

My opinion hope it gets to right people 5/10/2012

The atmosphere is great. The food is pricey but good considering the location and the mariachi and trio available for special occasions. Now the taste of food is something else. I think their plates are pretty filling. The cooks need to work on making better mexican rice. I have lived in SA all my life and that is the place we always take our relatives from out of town. Their Pan de Dulce is excellent. As for the waiting as long as they provide seating while you wait it's fine with me. more

There is much better pan de dulce in San Antonio..... 3/27/2012

I know Mi Tierra is a tourist hot spot. If you're a native though, there are much places to get much better pan de dulce in San Antonio. MT puts cinnamon in everything, and that doesn't belong in all Mexican pastries. Try some other small family bakeries on the near-west and west sides. Been going to Los Cocos on West Ave since 1982, and they don't disappoint. I even mail their empanadas to my daughter in Phoenix. more

Best mexican I have ever had! 3/3/2012

This was my husband, and my first time to San Antonio. My friend who has been here many times recommeded this restaurant. I can't believe the reviews can be anywhere from excellent, to the worst ever. I agree this may be just a tad pricey, but, it is soooooo worth it. It is the best Mexican food, I have ever had. The portions are not small, as others have claimed, we are both big eaters, and did not finish our lunches. All the waitstaff was great. The place is decorated with tons of lights, I thought it was neat. Point, being, I think you just need to try it for yourself. I loved it. more

Over-rated...Over-rated...Over-rated! 1/31/2011

Do you like long lines in intense humidity? Like to pay insane prices for small portions? Enjoy waiting over an hour from the time you order until your food arrives? Like noisy/crowded places where old wait staff see you as another annoying anglo? Then you'll love Mi Tierra....if not, skip it. The food is pretty good, but nothing else here is......... more

Friends dont' let friends eat here. 11/14/2010

Food is borderline bad. I had been warned about this place and still thought it would be fun for our young kids. I was shocked to see our queso was $8.50. When it arrived it was a below average bowl of radioactive looking orange cheese product. Our meals were both over 14 bucks which is what I expected but it was no better than a popular 24 Tex Mex fast place we all know and love. The reason we came was for the mariachis. They were fine I guess. I was prepared to tip/pay for them to sing to the kids. However I don?t like the way they solicit themselves. They asked my son, ?Do you want me to play you a song??, then lean in and whisper to the parent, ? I charge 5 dollars a song.? Kind of hard to say know in that situation. The mariachis don?t? stop coming. After the initial group we were fine. But every 5 minutes a different group came. Then random people came by trying to sell us pictures of ourselves. I wish our waiter came by that often. The place is decorated very festively. I will give them that. The sad thing is when you ask people from San Antonio, there isn?t a single good place to eat Tex Mex on the river? so I guess this is where you have to go?sigh more

Great place to go for a drink or an afternoon treat. I love the staff and the prices (location is out of the way, but oh well) more

Average place nothing to get excited about 8/11/2010

the place looks nice but that's about it.smallest basket or should say bowl of chips ever got in my life. Over priced little high. I think they just thrive on tourist who know no better! Go to anther spot like la margarita. Waiter was good old school did like that but the rest rude. They have exit and register line to get in don't go to wrong side because they will look at you crazy. Not worth the. Cost on food it's just avg. Aug 11 review. more

A fun excursion... 8/3/2010

I have been eating here and taking out of town guests here for 37 years. Is it the best Mexican food in town? Heavens no. Is it as bad as some have said here? Heavens no. But, you can enjoy a fun time with good food and OK margaritas and beer any time of day or night. This is not intended to be ""cuisine"". I have never been here without a substantial wait except for prearranged private parties. Not all of those people in line are from out of town! Draw your own conclusion. more

Tourist Trap 7/14/2010

Four of us visited Tuesday, July 13. It is a beautifully decorated place with lots of atmosphere........from there it's all downhill. Weak and expensive drinks, mediocre food also very expensive and the very worst service we have received anywhere in years. We spilled some salsa on the table and the waiter, Angel, came by and literally threw some paper towles at us. We asked for more salsa and he said ""it may be a while"". He was correct, we never got it. We have been dining here for years but never again; it's now just a tourist trap. Pros: Great Atmosphere Cons: Drinks, food, prices and especially the service more

Good food, pan dulce in bakery is great 7/10/2010

Yes, I hear it... this is a ""tourist"" spot. BUT, it's still good food and great pan dulce (sweet bread) in the bakery. Yes, they stay busy, but the turn-around on tables isn't bad at all. While you wait you can sip a cool drink and enjoy people watching... Pros: People watching, pan dulce, food in general, friendly Cons: usually crowded more

Love this place! 1/6/2010

We take all the out of towners here. More Tex Mex then not. a few things on the menu are more authentic then others dishes. Pros: Good food & service, great atmosphere! Cons: can be crowded and sometimes have to pay for parking. more

Tourist beware of less then okay food! 1/3/2010

Located in the Mercado it is made to look like authentic Mexican food. Only problem is that it is horrible! Only good things is the pan dulce they make! Every thing else is horrible! I refuse to eat at this place after I ate there a while back with my family! We are all Mexican-Americans and we are boycotting this place! It is way over priced! The servers though are very nice! If you can try and go off way off the beat in path! For Authentic Mexican quality food! Pros: Only good when your drunk Cons: Horrible when your sober! more
