Best

This was my husband, and my first time to San Antonio. My friend who has been here many times recommeded this restaurant. I can't believe the reviews can be anywhere from excel...

Worst

This place is a good buy for the money. The atmosphere isn't all that hot as it is overcrowded and loud. I think that this restaurant is definately overated. The food is average T...

It is a beautiful place 10/11/2009

The place deserves a visit just in itself: its bar, its bakery etc... It is very well decorated and it creates just a nice atmosphere for having a good time with your friends/family. The food unfortunately is just ""above average"" and was a disappointment given the reputation of the place. Also very annoying is that the service is slow and of low quality. Finally, a lot of musicians are wandering between the table constantly asking if they can play a song for you, which becomes annoying after a while. Pros: beautiful room and nice atmosphere Cons: food quality and service more

Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery is a good choice 7/6/2009

We got margaritas and enchiladas and it was excellent. the atmosphere is great!! the people are friendly and it was very close to our hotel so we took a cab to and from. more

AMAZING! 2/4/2009

perfect experience! hostess's were fantastic and prompt, the food was wonderful, for those of you who complain about the parking it is becuase the family's grandfather built it and didn't know how popular it would soon be so they didn't make a large parking lot becuase it just started out at a couple of tables, everything was great i highly recomend it, if you are going to visit in the summer i recoment to get there early because the wait doesn become long, they dont save reservations unless you are a HUGE party over 20.. go check it out! i loved it~ Pros: EVERTHING! Cons: nothing more

Average 10/20/2008

I also posted a review on Yahoo Local. I am baffled by all the five stars. Different strokes for different folks, but come on really? Five stars? For those who really truly feel this is the best Mexican food they have ever had I would really like to understand where they are coming from. Average, at best. Authentic salsa? It is a fun place to go, lots of dazzle. But the food is bland, boring, and even the waitress had a hard time trying to think of something worth recommending. Green enchiladas boring and bland. Carnitas were actually good, but everything else was mediocre. more

WORST MEXICAN FOOD. 9/17/2008

I AM FROM TEXAS AND HAD HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT THIS PLACE. FINALLY WENT DURING MY HURRICANE IKE EVACUATION. THE PLACE IS HARD TO FIND AND PARKING GOOD LUCK. THE INSIDE WAS NICELY DECORATED VERY NICE. THEIR MENUDO IS VERY GOOD AND SERVED WITH THE EXTRAS THAT ARE VITAL FOR GOOD MENUDO. AS FOR THE REST OF THE FOOD VERY TOURIST ORIENTED TACO BELL TASTING. THE QUESADILLA WAS WEIRD. INSTEAD OF A TORTILLA THEY USE A BREAD LIKE PITA BREAD WITH CHEESE. GREEN ENCHILADAS NO FLAVOR. BEANS ARE DRY OVERCOOKED. AND THEN YOU HAVE LIKE 20 MUSCIANS (TRIO'S GUITAR PLAYERS) WALKING AROUND ASKING OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO SING. COME ON GO AWAY LET ME EAT. WAITER WAS SO BUSY IT TOOK HIM FOREVER TO BRING OUR TICKET. I WENT AND SAW AND WILL NOT RETURN. DI D NOT TASTE THE PAN DULCE BUT LOOKED GOOD. Pros: NICELY DECORATED MEXICAN THEME Cons: READ AND YOU WILL FIND OUT more

Good Tourist Mexican Place 7/3/2008

This is a def. must for the San Antonio first timer or any tourist. The Mexican food is great and very authentic. It can get kind of crowded because it's located on the Market Square strip (another must). Service can be questionable sometimes and many of the waiters/staff speak little English, but the food and Mexican decor/atmosphere make up for it. The Mariachi bar is great. The ""Top Shelf Margarita"" is the best...especially the large, scooner one. It's a little over priced for Mexican food in San Antonio but most of that is because it's a tourist location. Mi Tierra is owned by the same people that own Las Margaritas and Pico De Gallo...also excellent restaurnts. If you want cheap authentic Mexican food, there are tons of other choices in SA...but definitely give this place a try. Oh yeah, they also have a Mexican bakery with tons of pan dulce (spanish for sweet bread). If you're staying the night in SA, then get some bread after dinner to eat with coffee in the morning...I promise you'll get hooked...lol. Pros: Good taste of Mexica Culture...let the mariachis sing you a song ($10 per song) Cons: over priced, can get crowded more

Good Choice..if Denny's doesnt appetize you at night 7/1/2008

Unfortunately for San Antonio, there are not many choices down town to grab a bite to eat after hours. Denny's, IHOP being your standard choices and Lulu's, Mi Tierra being the local standard. Mi Tierra's authenticity relies on its environment not its food. If you're from out of town, everyone will recommend Mi Tierra. Do yourself a favor and travel out of the down town area for better Mexican food. If you are deciding what to eat after a bar or club, might as well go to Denny's or somewhere similar to that. more

Tourist trap 6/16/2008

Ive lived in san antonio all 21 years of my life and i finally went here for my sister in laws graduation... The food is way overpriced and not very good at all. My food was cold. the beer is expensive and the margaritas werent bery good. Its a place for tourist who have never eaten mexican food to come and think it is the best. go to las palapas or a jalisco the food is way better. Pros: our waitress was nice Cons: had to park across the street more

Find Somewhere Else for Dinner 6/7/2008

With out of town friends in town we decided to take them to a Mexican restaurant near their hotel. We selected Mi Tierra because we had read where it was a ""must see"" for out of town guests. Our experience was horrible. First of all we were continuously asked whether we wanted to have music played for us by strolling mariachis or asked to buy trinkets/toys for the children. This was not so bad before the meal, but while we were eating it was annoying and bothersome. Having lived in San Antonio, we have had the opportunity to sample some of the finest Mexican food in South Texas. Mi Tierra was by far the worst I have ever tasted here in San Antonio, or anywhere else. The food was salty and dry. I had better Mexican food while living in Germany. The bottom line is I was embarrassed having taken friends to Mi Tierra. We will never go there again or recommend it to anyone coming to San Antonio. more

you want to have a mini fiesta..this is the place 5/28/2008

I have so much fun when I go there..I walk around the market there and then go in for a great margarita and TexMex food..and you can't miss the bakery (at least you don't want to miss something from the bakery). Even though it is busy all of the time...it is always open so if you have been out and about San Antonio, it is a great place to stop in the middle of the night. I come all the way from Houston and NEVER miss going there..and plan to go back many times again...I love it. I am going on a road trip and will be passing back through San Antonio..and my new spouse and his daughter have never been there..so I plan on making sure we stop and introduce them to Mi Tierra... Pros: Great food and margaritas, open 24 hours/7days a week Cons: very popular and busy more

Gross, No Desire To Go Back 4/21/2008

I've grown up in San Antonio, and I always here people talk about Mi Tierra. When I finally went, I was appalled. The food was disgusting, the service was horrible, my silverware was dirty and it was overcrowded with tourists. I was forced to go back with a group, and my experience was even worse. Cons: everything more

This San Antonio girl love Mi Tierra! 4/3/2008

Hands down my favorite Mexican Food Restaurant!!! La Hacienda comes in second but with their wonderful bakery and amazing echiladas I would never hesitate to recomend it! I was born and raised in San Antonio so you can trust my reveiew. I have never been disapointed here! Pros: Bakery and Salsa Cons: Marichis are kind of annoying more

Yum! 4/2/2008

My date and I waited over an hour for a table but it was well worth it. As mentioned on here many times before, the atmosphere is lively (fun but not a romantic date kind of venue), the 'ritas were strong, and the enchiladas were hot, gooey, and delicious. I also loved the thick chips with authentic salsa. We left full and happy (and a little drunk). more

Only good when you are drunk 3/29/2008

The only times I dare to go to mi tierra are at 2 am after the bars close, then the food is ok. Beware though, if you go when you are sober you will be fairly dissapointed. The food is usually cold, the enchiladas are tough and the margaritas are only a notch up from taco cabanas. Only pros are they are open late when you need to sober up and their bakery is good. Pros: open late Cons: everything else more

not amercian 12/13/2007

I enjoyed the food and the culture in San Antonio. I was raised in San Antonio and currently in military. I had noticed thru the murals in the restraunts and pictures hanging on the wall, Mi tierra is proud of its culture, although they have military photos they do not honor military discounts. The only discounts that are honored are the police. The pictures on the wall showed Generals and high ranking officials and even a Medal of Honor Roy Benavidez. If I knew this i would have went somewhere else to eat. I believe America is losing intererst in the own people who provide them security today in Amercia, with the Hispanics that are on the front line to and knowing that they feel the same way. Iam disappointed that the SAPD has privlages. I am leaving to Afghanistan and I was taking my Grandmother out to eat and a nice place but I felt like a regular customer and I hope they realize that the loose the people of the militrary. Pros: the mood was great Cons: no military discounts more

A Mexican restaurant, Panaderia, a world-class Mariachi Bar, and blaring Mariachis... 10/4/2007

Where else can you get this experience besides Mexico? Don't expect a whirlwind when you dig in the food! You go to Mi Tierra's not for the food. You go if it's your first time, after your evening drunken stuper downtown San Antonio, or just to hang out with close friends, family or colleagues for drinks at the Mariachi Bar! The sheer ambiance well than makes up for the lackluster food. I personally enjoy the guacamole nachos or the cheese or beef enchilada plate with chili sauce and a jumbo margarita to go with it! Pros: The Total Package: restaurant, panaderia, mariachi bar, and mariachis (Don't forget the famous Market Square!) Cons: Lackluster food, but who cares! Eat the Nachos! You can't go wrong there! more

not worth the $$$$$, will never visit AGAIN!!! 8/20/2007

i have had 2 bad experiences this year alone there AND I WILL NOT LET THERE BE A 3RD TIME!!! BAD SERVICE AND THE FOOD i had better at taco hell yes taco hell!! an earlier comment said it all they are lucky they are in a prime location if they were anywhere else in the city it would have been shut down many years ago i think... i will stick to the little hole in walls and mom & pop restaurants!!! Pros: NONE!! Cons: BAD SERVICE more

Not worth the price and the food is not good. 6/30/2007

I have had better tasting food at a lower costing Mex. Rest. Pros: Location Cons: Food, cost and just OVER RATED! more

tourists keep them busy 6/16/2007

So many restauraunts (especially Mexican restauraunts) in San Antonio survive only because of their popularity among tourists and visitors. Mi Tierra is another example of one who's location is the biggest reason for their popularity. Located in the heart of the tourist center, they have a steady flow of first-timers and clearly do not rely upon repeat business from native San Antonians. The bakery and bar, and the fact that they are open all night, are the only reasons I rate them as average. If judging on food and service alone they would rate below average for me. Specifically, the food is pre-prepared microwave stuff, for example, my tamale had alluminum foil in it. Tostadas were no different than grocery-store packaged chips and the chile con queso was Velveeta with some chopped tomato & peppers. I do admit to enjoying a late-night or early-morning visit to their bakery, but every other aspect is sub-par. Pros: Bakery and bar, late night hours. Cons: Pre-prepared packaged food, not fresh-made. more
