This place is a good buy for the money. The atmosphere isn't all that hot as it is overcrowded and loud. I think that this restaurant is definately overated. The food is average T...

food is so-so, parking is bad 6/1/2007

We went there a few days ago and we decided not to go back.... all the time looking for a parking space, the cost of the meal, and the staff's ability to serve us well, was not worth it. The last time we went our food was not that hot, the service was bad, and the A/C was on too high. I don't mind it being loud with music but the waiter might not hear us when we order. The parking is unbelievable. the whole place is designed to seat ALOT of people, but there is only like 50 parking spaces....The bakery is wonderful though! more

The worst Mexican food experience we've ever had 3/19/2007

I rarely, if ever, feel the need to review a restaurant, but the experience that we had last night from a culinary perspective was absolutely deplorable. I am a native San Antonian, born and raised, and I come back quite often. I have lived all over the world and have had a lot of Mexican food - both good and bad, though I always come home to have THE BEST. With that being said, I was extremely disappointed to have THE ABSOLUTE WORST Mexican food I've ever had in San Antonio, and that is saying A LOT. The margaritas tasted like Country Time lemonade with extra sugar (blech - I've never come across a margarita that I had to send back), the cheese enchiladas tasted like Pine Sol, the guacamole tasted like...well...nothing, and the other three diners I was with were just disgusted...we had to go elsewhere to get the lingering taste out of our mouths. What really really disappints me is that this is a San Antonio landmark, and being downtown, many tourists and convention goers will come here and expect this to be authentic Mexican food, and it most certainly is not. I really hope that they clean up their act from a food perspective (our server was great) so that people visiting San Antonio can have the Mexican food experience they deserve here in the capital of Tex-Mex. Pros: the server was good Cons: the food was absolutely disgusting and inedible more

Ambience almost makes up for lackluster Mexican food 2/11/2007

Being a native San Antonian I was practically obligated to eat here at some point. I did recently and I must say...what a tourist trap. The murals and year round christmas lights offer great ambience but that is about it. The food is average at best, mediocre at times. Mom and pop Jalisco's can offer better tasting food (not to mention cheaper) . The service, however, is among the finest in San Antonio. Quick, friendly and imformative. They know their stuff. Pros: Great ambience, great music (live mariachi's some nights!), wonderful service. Cons: Pricier than it should be, can be a little loud at times. more

Not so good food, great bakery 11/20/2006

The food is one step up from Taco Bell and it amazes me that the place still packs in so many people everyday. However, the bakery is very good, so from now on I will get baked goods and leave Pros: Bakery Cons: Everything else, bad parking more

mmmmmm COOKIES OR GOAT ?? 11/16/2006

I dont know if I like the Cabrito or the cookies better, but Food Snob thinks this bakery / restaurant is worth a try. Its in Market Square, a short trolley ride from the convention activity and although I was there this time of year, (November) it looks like a fun area in warm weather. The cabrito is as good as any. I love the Cabrito of Italy and the Mexican style sometimes is a little harsh. This place is good. The other fare, and there were 15 of us eating almost everything, was good, presented well and the service was very attentive. Margs. were good..... beer was extra cold and its hard to pass about a 100 ft long bakery case on you're way out. Great for a group on the patio. Pros: BIG FUN FESTIVE more

Average Mexican Food 11/13/2006

We just visited San Antonio for the first time and stopped at MiTierra for authentic Mexican. I was a bit disappointed to see how much of a tourist trap this place is. Service was marginal with no smiles or explanation of the menu. The margaritas were weak and the food was so so. The atmosphere is festive and it seems like a lot of locals dine here, but I don't think we will be back. Pros: Kitschy atmosphere Cons: Service, food more

Too touristy. Avoid until after midnight. 11/6/2006

The food is just average, but their public relations is excellent. The bakery is a definate plus. Avoid the resturant until after mid-night. more

Great Margaritas - 24/7 in San Antonio! 10/28/2006

It feels like going to a huge party, with music, shiny-decor, lights...and the best part is, it's 24/7! Pros: Margaritas, 24/7 Cons: Small parking lot for the size of the restaurant. more

The Perfect Margarita at the Perfect Place 8/21/2006

A Margarita at the bar at Mi Tierra, the later in the evening the better, is what great evenings are made of. Order a Shrimp Cocktail and you never have to move. This is one of the top places in the City to kick back and enjoy the tasty frosty beverage! But, alas, they have a great restaurant too! To go there and pass up the Guacamole Nachos would just not be right! The food and drink is very good here, but it's the whole package..... Downtown San Antonio, Mercado out the back door, Mariachis everywhere and the colors and genuine festive atmosphere that keep this place hoping literally 24/7. Their Huevos Rancheros is my favorite. Now, there are those that believe Mi Tierra is best and others who strongly assert La Margarita is the best that has ever been. It doesn't matter, they have the same owner! Go, have Margaritas at both places and poder the question for yourself! Pros: It is just plain a fun place to be Cons: It gets crowded, good places do. It isn't the cheapest Mexican Food, but you get your money's worth more

Best Margarita's in the U.S. of A. 5/3/2006

They have been in business since 1946, and have certainly perfected the fare. Great mexican, no matter what you order. But their Margaritas are to die for!! Absoloutely the best I have had anywhere I have traveled to. \r \r Dine indoors or al fresco, right in the scenic market square. Lovely old world charm. PROS: Authentic Mexican and world class Margaritas CONS: Begging pigeons if you dine al fresco more

Dynamite breakfasts 3/14/2006

We have only dined here for breakfast but you can't beat it! Great food, great atmosphere, good service. When you are through walk the market aisles. Pros: Great atmosphere, Good food Cons: No close parking more

Fun Atmosphere Good Food 11/13/2005

Mi Tierra is a very fun and colorful restaurant. Their food is pretty typical for mexican food, but it's worth paying for the atmosphere and the drinks. You could probably find better food, but not a funner restaurant! This is a great place to take out-of-towners. Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Location Cons: Parking more

Average Mexican Restaurant 10/11/2005

Mi Tierra Restaurant served average mexican food. The food was warm and was not so great. The atmosphere was good though, right in the center of the Market Square. The prices were fair and so was the service. more

Great Food 9/13/2005

If you want excellent food and a great atmosphere this is the place to come! They know thier way around the kitchen and the service and prices are great! PROS: Great atmosphere! CONS: N/A more

Best tacos in the world! 9/6/2005

Open 24 hours and fabulous food!! Great variety of flavors (usual tacos, enchiladas as well as more interesting things, like a goat plate) and the best Beef Tacos I ever had. The ""Christmas all year long"" decor can be surprising in July, but what the heck, it's fun! The bakery stocks dozens of different cookies and pastries. There's also a memorial to the Latin singer, Selena - you can put flowrs or a candle down if you want to. They sometimes have wandering musicians to serenade the customers. Pros: Food, Open 24 Hours, Reasonable prices Cons: Parking more

OPEN 365 DAYS A YEAR! 8/20/2005

Mi Tierra's is awesome! They are open all of the time, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The bakery is great, and the staff have a very efficient system for taking orders. The pecan pralines are to die for! The restaurant is always busy, but it is huge and the wait is never very long. The inside is covered in Christmas twinkle lights, pinatas, and Mexican decor. The food is great and priced just right! more

Mexican Flare 8/10/2005

The feel of restaurant is of ole Mexico, I loved the mariachi bands, costumes and the food was wonderful, they have a great bakery, (Mexican recipes) and the margaritas are yummy. The waiters and waitresses are all friendly. Entrees start at $7.00 PROS: Great price CONS: Parking is a little tight more

After Hours Late Night Dinner 6/9/2005

After a great night of drinking & dancing, this is the place I'd recommend stopping to. Food is served hot and the service is dependable. I'm formally from San Antonio and this is one stop I bring my guests to. The $ is a little priced high but you get $$ worth being served hot and the amount portion given on your plate! Yum yum! I miss this place! And my guests loved it too!! Pros: late night dinner Cons: price more

Great Stop for tourists 5/8/2005

If you're in town for a few days and have seen the Alamo one too many times, head to the Market Square area and eat at Mi Tierra. Though the wait at peak times can be long, the food is well worth it. The service is hit or miss, but your go there for the food and ambiance, roaming Mariachi bands, etc. Best bet is to pick up some pastries for dessert at home or the hotel room later. Also remember that San Antonio is the home of Tex-Mex, and what you get here is just that, though ther are some Mexican specialties. Though there are many local restaurants with slightly better food, this place is a must visit for those visiting San Antonio. Pros: The food Cons: Long waits, Hit or miss service more

Go for it! 12/24/2004

This place gets a definite thumbs up. We had a great breakfast experience here and will go back. Service was excellent, food was terrific and the atmosphere was very festive. Overall this one is a keeper to file away for future visits. more
