Burritos OK, but terrible service. If you are not into waiting for them to bring water, or the bill, or whatever, I might not recommend this place. I am a UC Berkeley employee. Pros: burritos OK Cons: terrible service! more

It set the bar very high! 12/7/2006

I grew up in Berkeley three blocks from Mario's and lived on the food there. Now I live in NYC and I haven't been able to find any Mexican that measures up! I miss it so much. And as an extremely picky/finicky eater trust me, Mario's is the best! Yes, the majority of the day to day clientele are students, but that just tells you the food is affordable. Don't believe the hater, Mario's is fabulous! Pros: Great food! Quick service, if it's not crowded. Cons: It's a bit like fast food in atmosphere, though you can sit down and eat if you want. more

Best place ever 6/15/2005

I've been going to eat there for over 25 years. When I was growing up I was taken there every week after ballet class and to this day I LOVE their food. The #4 is my fav. I now live in Walnut Creek and drive all the way down there when I want some Mexican food. I read the review where they were rated poor and could not believe it. It is so far from the truth, Don't believe it either. Although it is small, the service is wonderful. In this day and time, it is nice to see a good family owned business still going strong. Pros: Inexpensive, tasty, fast Cons: crowded more

Best Hotplate Mexican In East Bay 10/2/2004

I started eating their amazing pan-fried burritos almost 20 years ago before the burrito craze hit! Then they added the hand-rolled burritos which are wonderful. But their best dish is by far the Enchiladas Verdes which is chicken enchiladas in green sauce. Their other enchiladas are great too as well as their flautas. The portions are great; the cheese, rice, beans, and sauces cover the hot plate. This is a heart-warming place, full of history and happy memories for my family. Their spicy salsas, always on the table, kick butt. Pros: Great value, Family place, Great food more

la fiesta 5/17/2004

this is a berkeley staple. i've eaten at all the recommended mexican restaurants in the bay area--la taqueria, mom is cooking, etc...--and to me, mario's is hands down the best. if you don't believe me, go find out for yourself. the flautas are a must. more

Lowest common denominator 10/4/2002

This place caters to the college crowd which wouldn't know good food if it was right in front of their noses. The only thing redeeming about this place is that they have real margaritas. Service is poor. There is zero ambience. And the food is marginal. Pros: Margaritas more

enchilada verde and chicken flauta 7/24/2002

La Fiesta is finally getting the recognition it deserves. We've been going there for 30 years and always order the same thing - combination plate with enchilada verde and chicken flauta. They have great homemade chicken soup. more
