Mangold Property Management was a pretty good place to rent from. They were always nice and took care of whatever needed fixing or maintenance. When I moved out I got more of my deposit than I expected because the carpet was stained. Mangold said it was too old and would require replacement anyway. more

I have nothing but good things to say about this company. I am a renter and my experience has been a good one. I haven't called them often, but when I did anything they were very helpful. My lease will soon be up and I will be resign because I love the people and my place. more

WORST EVER 2/1/2011

a rating of ""1"" is too generous for this company.\r \r THEY ARE THE SLUMLORDS OF MONTEREY.\r \r point in case, the apartments at 666 + 696 casanova , on site managed by a young woman who has no care about your needs whatsoever, and if you ask her about something, its almost always met with a rude response. the other 2 managers are older and nice, but dont seem to have any idea of what the younger manager is doing or about what goes on in their own complex. all of the management lives at the 696 building, leaving the 666 building without any supervision. due to that, this is what takes place at 666:\r \r gangmembers live there in 2 apartments. fights, arguments, teens smoking marijuana outside and drinking is a problem. an apartment that has 5 to 6 illegals in it have done drug deals OUT IN THE OPEN, as do the gangbanger apartments. ive seen 2 separate police raids with 2 residents hauled away, a fight where one neighbor threatened another with a knife, a 5150 (insane) man looking at a scrapbook on the stairs that had porno pictures, (there are 2 or 3 other apartments with mental people), a homeless man who loves to urinate in the courtyard or drink beer in the bushes, and many more similar incidents.\r \r aside from that, at 666 alone, out of about 34 apartments, around 10 of them have gay or lesbian couples, some who make out on the OUTSIDE walkways in bathrobes and lingerie and you can hear them having sex through the walls, ASBESTOS IN THE LAUNDRY ROOMS, SOME OF IT IS EXPOSED! WINDOWS are NOT SEALED, so cold air gets in no matter what. some neighbors have had cockroaches come out of the walls, fleas in the carpets even though they have no pets, shower water goes from super cold to scalding hot, and some freak downstairs loves to dig through the trash after youve dumped it, and some elderly lady steals everyones newspapers, probably to use the paper to insulate the crappy windows or plug the walls to keep the roaches out.\r \r complaints fell on deaf ears or the young girl who works the front desk at the main office was probably too busy updating facebook to care enough to log the complaints\r \r LEAVING IS A WHOLE OTHER PROBLEM. ITS A TRAP\r if you havent been living at ANY MANGOLD PROPERTY RESIDENCE FOR ATLEAST 3 YEARS, YOU PAY FOR PAINT!!! and it doesnt matter if the walls are spic and span, they paint and you pay. its in the contract fine print. the carpets must be professionally done by a company with a TRUCK MOUNTED cleaner, no matter what. if their is even a little bit of dirt or dust anywhere in the whole place, YOU PAY $125 cleaning charge, which is the minimum. and who do they get for the professional cleaning? a mexican lady from seaside who happens to be my old neighbor who is anything but professional. and nobody, I MEAN NOBODY that i know and ive lived in this area my whole life, NOBODY HAS EVER GOTTEN THEIR FULL DEPOSIT BACK FROM MANGOLD. even friends that are complete clean freaks, they get charged for a tiny amount of dust on the window blinds or sills. BAM!! $125 to mangold. \r \r DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. DONT RENT FROM MANGOLD. i did once and i will never again.\r \r AND STAY AWAY FROM ANY APARTMENT ON CASANOVA STREET. Looks like the front office staff has changed. They are very friendly and helpful. Yes the staff is busy but I look at this as a good sign not a bad one. Would you go to a resturant that was always empty? Most likely not. I have had a great experience with this company and it is unfortunate that the bad experienced people normally post online. I have lived at my apt for 5 years and have been very happy. more

Made last payment, moved out, received none of the deposit back.\r \r I continued to live in Monterrey for 18 months after moving out of the apartment and yet received no notification that they expected additional payments. And I can not imagine how they could possibly justify the 1700+ considering that it was rarely lived in and they kept the full security deposit. I only discovered this when it was added to my credit report as a collections account almost 3 years after moving out. I agree in full with the negative reviews as to my time as a tenant. more

They should call them Thugs & Associate 1/5/2010

Truthfully they should just change their company name into The Thugs and Associates, because they are nothing but a bunch of thugs and crocks. They are rude, lairs, and arrogant for nothing. They have the worst housing, and once they rob you, they won't even response to your phone calls, there is no emergency line, no maintenance or any care of any kind. They advertise for housing but its not what it is in the picture nor what it promises. So this is a felony by itself. P.S. I would not give them any star, but the rating is required. If I can I would rate them 5 times down below zero. more

We rented with Mangold for about two years, the same property throughout. It appears they have a business policy to lie to renters as that seems to be the thing they do most consistently. ----------------------------------------------------- The property we were renting has not needed many repairs or had many issues while we were there. Some issues were dealt with quickly and effectively, such as a leak in the laundry room. Other issues were ignored for weeks - despite being told day after day that someone would arrive there the next day. A fix to a leaky bath spigot took 4 weeks to get repaired properly with excess water bill costs borne mostly by us, the renters. A few other repairs / issues have arisen with similar performance. ----------------------------------------------------- Their standard response is to tell you what you want to hear, such as ""we'll have someone there later today"" or ""we'll have someone there tomorrow."" But, that rarely happens. They even lie when you call in, ""Can you hold for just a minute"" - followed by being placed on hold for ten minutes; When you call back, the other receptionist answers and can connect you immediately. ----------------------------------------------------- Our biggest problem with Mangold is that they lied probably EVERY time we dealt with them. ----------------------------------------------------- Would I rent from them again - if the property seemed mostly reliable, yes. If I thought I would have to get Mangold Property Management to do much for the property - not a chance. Would I hire them to manage my property - HECK NO, I wouldn't want them lying to me about property condition or other important things. Pros: ""Manages"" many properties Cons: Lies, Liars, Slow repairs. more

I don't know why everyone seems to give these people a bad review. I rented from them years ago, moved away and came back to rent with them again. I bought a house recently so I wouldn't rent from them again consequently but I would totally recommend them. They are fair and responsive, the two most important things a renter (or owner) is looking for. I had a leak in my kitchen sink and it was fixed that same day. I can't say the same of other places I've rented. I even recently recommended them to a friend who just moved to the area and he has been happy with his new place thus far. This company takes advantage of students like there is no tomorrow. Unnecessary charges, substandard properties but unfortunately, when you need housing, you are kind of stuck in Monterey. After renting from Mangold for a year I wished I had known about their reputation. The office staff is to busy doing I don't know what. Craig and Scott the brothers who are running should have learned from the father, because now I wouldn't recomend them to anyone. It is a sorry state when pROPERTY Managers like this are in business. I feel sorry for the property owners that they lie to and then turn around and tell renters lies also. So if your looking to rent in Monterey County find a company the you first can trust and that won't lie to you or take advantage of the renters. They make alot of money off all the renters and no one should be treated the way mangold does. Pros: I'm no longer renting from them more

I am surprisd they are rated so low. I have rented apartments from them since 1997 and have never had a problem. They made requested repairs quickly. They even helped me switch apartments when my family grew. The office is very busy every time I went there and not always helpful otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. Out of touch with customer's needs 2/12/2009

I flew in to Monterey for 3 days of house hunting. I stopped by MGM and asked to see a 3/4 bedroom house greater than 1800 sqft. They do not list the size of their homes on their website and the agent at the desk does not have access to that information either. The kid working the desk did not seem to want to help me nor did he understand why the size of the house was a critical data point... Pros: Good location Cons: No parking, No customer service more

Horrible customer service, inaccessible, can never get a hold of anyone, they don?t return your calls. I found the hard way but just ask the local people and they all tell you to stay away from Mangold. more
