What a breath of fresh air...my family and I moved up from LA and were elated with the service, respect and customer care we received from these people. They truly go. The extra mile and I would recommend that if you plan on building a home you use JLS! more

Same thing here. Nothing has changed in approach from Nov 2011 - Feb 2012. We also had such a bad experience with their sales agent, Fred Fisher with Cypress Marketing group when attempting to make a purchase. He was ignorant of availability of standard cabinet choices at West Haven, and stuck to the belief that there was only one standard option - dark. In the end, even when told to order our preferred option of light cabinets, he forgot to procure documents and the builder ordered cabinet choice without consenting us and then did not want to admit a mistake. more

Do not buy a JLS home! 10/12/2011

My JLS home started out as my dream home and has turned into the money pit ever since. It started with the back yard, which was improperly graded resulting in two french drains and tons of concrete decking for it to be usable, at our expense. The master bathroom shower was leaking through the light fixtures into the kitchen, they came out and fixed it but now we have a ""warped"" kitchen ceiling from where they cut a hole. Now...the worst experience ever, JLS didn't properly flash the windows on the house. As a matter of fact they didn't use any flashing at all. I have wood around the windows that is completely rotten. The siding needs to be replaced and the main beam in the garage (holding up the front of the house) is completely water damaged. We're currently having it inspected for dry rot. Tried to contact JLS and they're on sabatical. DO NOT BUY A JLS HOME. Absolutely the worst company ever. Can't wait to see what we have to fix next. Wish I would have just saved my money and bought a smaller home. Side note - we had the very best experience with our realtor, I'm sure he's completely embarrassed by all this and I'm sure he regrets working with this horrible organization. more

Worst home I ever lived in, Avoid!!! 4/25/2011

I will never recommend or purchase a JLS Custom Home again! Probably not as much of an issue now, but my poketbook is still in pain! Since moving in, the following has occured: molding on kitchen cabinetry has come off in places (1st year), flooding from upstairs 2nd bathtub into downstairs entry hall (1st year), flooding along ceiling from master bathtub upstairs into kitchen below (2nd year), flooding from upstairs master bathtub into dining room hanging light (5th year), drywall nails popping out all over the place (1st year thru current), closet door fell off because not enough screws were installed to hold its weight in kid's room (3rd year), master bedroom closet racks fell down three different times (1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year), could not hold the weight of clothing, faulty electrical installation (no breaker sockets in master bath, illegal I believe), faulty fuse box (always popping breakers for master bedroom), front door lock practically fell off (2nd year), doorbell short-circuited (2nd year), nearly every window that can be opened in the house leaks during heavy rains (1st year thru current). The list goes on, but I am already exhausted. more

Absolutely Avoid JLS Custom Homes ! 3/24/2010

I bought a JLS Home and regret the day that I did. These are cracker box homes, slapped together and dumped on an unsuspecting public. I am partly at fault: if I had done my research on-line I would have known to stay clear of this company?s homes. Cons: Poor construction quality; poor customer service more

NEVER buy a JLS home!! 9/29/2009

JLS is the worst home builder in the area. They refuse to warranty any of their work. I own a townhome that is not even 5 years old and here are all of the warranty issues I have had: Massive leaking from our back decks due to improperly installed water proofing caused damage to the garage drywall in all 9 of our townhome units. It took JLS over 8 months to complete the warranty work. They moved the tracks to my garage in order to replace damaged drywall on the ceiling. According to a certified Wyan-Dalton door dealer, they replaced the tracks to the door to far out which caused damage to my garage door. They refuse to even come out and look at it, let alone repair the damage. The front post that holds up the roof over our deck is sinking and tearing away from the roof. There is a 3"" gap between the post and the roof. They ""fixed"" it once and refuse to fix it again stating that it's not under warranty. Again they refuse to even look at it. We have a 10 year structural warranty. Most of my windows won't shut completely because the framing is not straight. There probably isn't one plum wall in the house. Pros: There are no pros when working with this company. Cons: Everything about this company is a con more

please beware when buying a jls home 7/16/2009

When we closed, the beaverton office gave us the wrong key to our home. We had to get a lock smith out to let us in and rekey it. Then it took a while for them to do it right. Since then it has been a nightmare. The house has many things wrong that we noticed and pointed out before and after closing. We thought they were a big honorable company and would keep their promises. Jls would tell us to keep a list for the one year warranty so they can fix everything one time. It turns out, this is their way to hold off and to tell you later that they closed the file and will not come back to finish the work they promised. I am very disappointed that they think this is how to do business and to keep a good reputation. I guess they are counting on people with their busy lives(to pay for the mortgages) to just go away and not let others know about it. Be aware! Noticed how other reviews have the same complaint, and the pattern of their bad quality of services. Time is money and that's what you will be paying long after the house is closed to deal with the problems. If you buy one, document everything they tell you in case you take them to court. Please tell people you care about so it will save them time, especially if they have children. Some of the problem we had was the closet rods fell off the wall, paint chipping and sticking to things when placed on, grout cracking, carpet uneven and making bubble crackling noise when stepped on, some areas had a nail underneath it, blinds uneven, door handle might lock you out if closed too tightly (it won't turn to open), lots of nails pop out, gutter paint chipped, and many more to list (over 20 items). Keep in mind this is a new house you are buying. Pros: closing was quick and loan person was great Cons: quality and customer services, especially on their warranty more

Terrible Practices 4/17/2009

Recently our neighbor has brought to our attention that JLS incorrectly located the property lines of our home, our neighbor's home, and the home bordering our neighbor's house. JLS has offered to cut out our driveway and re-locate it in such a manner that it would make our garage unusable unless they pour a concrete turnaround that would encompass 2/3s of our front yard. They feel this is a reasonable solution, we disagree. We have contacted the county and our neighbors would not be able to fence their property as it currently is situated because the setbacks would not be within code (at least 6 feet away from our front door). There is also a dangerous, dying tree that overhangs our house and we had asked to have them remove that prior to closing. Their realor said she spoke to the construciton manage and that the tree was on county property and since that propert is part of a greenspace, we would need to deal with the county. We closed on the house thinking we would clear this up with the county. After much back and forth with the county, they showed us the site markers and informed us that JLS is incorrect and the tree is on our property. JLS is now refusing to remove the tree even though this was a condition of our closing prior to JLS's representative misrepresenting the issue. JLS' construction manager and his immediate boss also blame the developer of the subdivision for the errors in property lines because the developer spray painted the lot numbers incorrectly on the curb. So JLS is basically saying that this would be the reason why they made such an enormous mistake of situating our house improperly, locating our driveway on a 3-foot corner of our neighbor's lot, locating their front entrance on approximately 2-feet of our corner lot...because someone spray-painted the lot number incorrectly. I would hope they had better quality control than that but apparently I would be incorrect. They are liquidating 70 homes by the end of April at a loss, probably to secure their cash position and keep the banks from drying up their lines of credit. Please stay away from them. We bought from them when it was the height of the market and times were good. Imagine how they will treat you when you have a problem, since you are buying from them at cut-rate prices. Pros: The house seems to be structurally sound Cons: Too many to mention in one line more

Stay Away From This Builder 3/14/2009

This is the poorest quality home builder we have ever seen. They do the cheapest work, use the cheapest sub-contractors and leave you holding the bag on repairs. They are terrable to deal with especially the Vice President of the Company. They have refused to make repairs and are no longer building in Washington State. Good Bye and Good Ridence. Pros: Non Cons: Everything more
