Editorial review from Citysearch 6/30/2012

Not impressed. The food that I ordered was not very good and it was overpriced. I had the spinach salad (not much flavor), the seared yellow fin tuna with vegetables (had onions and peppers - nothing exciting), the chocolate chambord cake (stale and dry), and a cup of decaf that was cold and stale. Won't go back. more

great new american food 2/3/2012

My boyfriend and i went to the dine in at glass wall the restaurant i have no words to explain how our experience was that night. My boyfriend had a texas venison with duck sausage mofongo grilled asparagus and red wine sauce, and i had seafood paella. everything was delicious the venison was perfectly cooked, and the paella was amazing. We have been to glass wall before and the food was better than ever. The waiters were doing a excellent job. this is one of the places that everyone would want to come back to have a great experience. more

Fine dining experience! 6/9/2011

We would expect food that is exceptional and service that is top-notch for spending $100.00 for two diners (with wine). THAT WE CERTAINLY RECEIVED! The complimentary valet was courteous and efficient. The waitress was well-versed in her knowledge of the menu selections. My pork chop was from Berkshire (where the best come from) and easily two inches thick. The ""cracklin"" mac & cheese was unlike any I have had, and the creamed spinach - wow. The wife had corn-crusted snapper, delicious! Our desert, the grilled rum cake may have been over-grilled, as it was somewhat dry. Maybe we expected a moist Tortuga Rum Cake from the Carribean, that it wasn't. Whoever the owner was, we noted that he seemed to know everybody and ""minded the store"" well. We were there on a special occasion and paying this much is generally out of our league, but for this celebration, we were very pleased. more

Good Anniversary! 6/15/2010

My wife and I went here to celebrate our anniversary, and it was well worth it. We set a reservation for 7:30, but arrived a little early, which ended up being a good move. We parked in the valet area. The gentleman that took our keys actually walked over and opened the door for us. GREAT START. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and seated within minutes. As I said before we arrived a bit early, so our waiter walked up as soon as we set down. He took our drink order and had them back to us in no time. Great overall service (waited got confused on the daily special). Would visit again! Pros: Great food, Good atmosphere Cons: Waiter hard to understand more

Great food! 5/23/2010

Went to try the Glass Wall and form my own opinions since I had heard mixed reviews. The place looked really nice and the menu was very interesting. I didn't care much for the lobster pot pie but the entrees were killer. I had the salmon with chorizo potatoes and my girlfriend had the short ribs. Both were really good and I'm glad we went. I give them the thumbs up! Pros: Nice ambience, good food Cons: Parking really sucks but it's Houston, what can you expect? more

really great neighborhood food 5/23/2010

my wife and i had dinner there this past week and thought is was great. she had the tuna app and i the crab cakes which were almost solid crab meat and the tuna was perfect. i had the pork tender with a mole' type sauce. very tasty. my wifes grilledtuna mignon with pomegranate/soy glaze was incredible. we followed up with the creme brulee and i think it has to be one of the best in the city! Pros: everything Cons: loud more

Hmmmm...it has changed from its beginnings 5/8/2010

For over a $100K for 2 people, the atmosphere was mediocre. You arrive and the host was not available to sit you and then when you leave, the host is sitting at the bar versus saying goodbye, and asking how was the meal... Pros: crabcake is delicious Cons: too salty and too loud. more

highly variable experience 2/4/2010

I had a very nice duck here eventually. They had undercooked it the first time and then offered to warm it up, indicating they would likely overcook it in the process. This stressed me out. Maybe I'm confused about food temperature, but I don't think medium rare meat is luke-warm in spots and cold in others. And food is never good when it's ""warmed up."" I felt like I was being punished for being unlucky. In any event, I reluctantly sent it back for warming, but they opted to recook it. When it came back, it was very, very good. But my wife's short ribs weren't good, and my quail appetizer wasn't either (way over-fried). Dessert was fine. The wife's beignets (sp?) were very good, but they only give you two. My bread pudding was fine. more

A disappearing act 10/24/2009

Several weeks ago, we decided to take an out of town guest to Glass Wall because we have always enjoyed the food and the service. Although it is a loud place, we correctly assumed that it wouldn?t be too loud because Tuesdays are generally slow. Pros: Food Cons: wait staff pulls a disappearing act more

Always a pleasure!!! 8/4/2009

My husband and I have dined here many times. Sometimes we sit in the bar to watch the Astros and order from the bar menu. Hubby loves the fresh fish tacos! When friends are visiting from out of town, we always sit in a booth(reserve one, they go fast). Every time we order something different. The menu is limited but they change it every two months or so. Most wines we order are way more expensive elsewhere. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We feel at home here only I can't cook this well at our home. A welcome addition to our neighborhood. Pros: Relaxed, knowledgeable staff. Great wine prices! Cons: Can be loud on weekends more

Average at best! 8/2/2009

This place had only 7-8 dinner entrees to choose from. Although, this could be a strength. It wasn't. We were 4 people and ordered 2 appetizers, the crab cakes and salad with goat cheese. They were good (it is really hard to screw up either). When it came time for the main course, we ordered the market fish, the chicken and the skirt steak . The fish was pretty good. Now the ""steaks"" were basically fajitas. They were even chopped like fajitas and had fajita spices, for $20! now, why would a restaurant that trying to be ""modern"" would serve fajitas while calling it ""steak"". This is Houston, people know what fajitas are very well. So call the darn things just that! The ""free range"" chicken wasn't even cooked all the way. Service was below average. The waiter could not ""or didn't really want to explain the menu well. I have no idea how this restaurant gets the good reviews on Citysearch. If you don't believe me, look up their menu on line (or worse, try it for yopurself). Our bill was $160 + tips for 4 people. Not going back there again. If you want similar food menu with a LOT better quality, go to Ibiza in mid-town (also try their lounge) Pros: Ambience Cons: Food! more

Great Atmosphere and Food!! 7/7/2009

One of the best meals I have eaten more

Great Food and Great Service 9/26/2008

Myself and three others visited Glass Wall on a Wedensday night. The restaurant was empty when we arrived for drinks at 5:30 but was quickly filling up by 7 pm. The bartender was okay - not really helpful but once we moved to a table to eat, my entire experience improved. The waitress was very good - explained the menus, offered refills, etc. The wine list was great and not overly expensive. I had the pork and my husband had the cornish hen. Everyone agreed, the food was great. Pros: Valet Parking, Open Kitchen Cons: Noisy more

Great wine & food pairings 8/19/2008

This is my new favorite place to eat in Houston. It is a trendy and comfortable atmosphere. The wine list is amazing, and the ""wine dude"" certainly knows his wines. He has been very helpful in answering questions about the wines and has excellent taste when it comes to the pairing them with food. Hats off to the chef who is very creative with the menu. If you are able, definitely try each food item with its suggested pairing; and if you are with family and/or friends, ask to try their foods as well with the wine you ordered. You'd be surprised at how fast you learn why certain wines go with certain foods. I would recommend this place to my friends. A great place for a get together. Pros: Wine and food! more

Nice ambiance 7/31/2008

I made a reservation and when we got there, we still had to wait about 30 mins. However, the ladies in our group received a complimentary drink at the bar, while we were waiting. After that, everything ran smoothly, from service to food. more

GREAT Place 2/28/2008

This is my favorite place to eat in all of Houston. The atmosphere is very easy going and funky. The wine list is amazing, with funky quotes and life thoughts from the general manager at the top of the page. These change periodically, as does the menu. The seasonal changes in the menu mean something new to try everytime we go. The food iteself is amazing, the best food I've had yet in Houston. Lance, the chef, makes some amazing creations that are perfectly cooked and paired with the side dishes. I highly recommend the wine pairings that come with the meal, they are perfectly matched. I am throughly impressed with the food, service, and atmosphere everytime I eat here. Great place for a date, or to catch up with old friends. Pros: Great food and wine pairings Cons: Can get loud when crowded more

Great food, eclectic wine list, friendly service. Great neighborhhod spot. 12/26/2007

Went to Glass Wall on Saturday with no reservation. Waited in the bar and ate a crabcake till a table opened up. Place was buzzin'. A blonde surfer girl helped us in the bar and the dining room. I think my girlfriend was jealous. We had the pork entree and wahoo special. Very tasty. Wine pairings on the menu a nice touch. Coming back next week with my parents WITH a reservation. Highly recommend it! Pros: Great food, wine pairings, easy going atmosphere Cons: Not open for lunch more

3-star restaurant, 5-star price 10/19/2007

My girlfriend and I went to Glass Wall last night. We started with an appetizer of quail, which was very flavorful, but the portion size was tiny! Is this some kind of ""singles"" appetizer I haven't heard of? The wine list is not extensive, and our waiter was not very helpful in picking a wine, although we ended up with a good red by the name of 9-Mile Road. For my entree, I had the Pork Tenderloin, and I was very happy with my choice. It was cooked perfectly, and the accompanying sauce complimented it very well. However, my overall feeling is that I could have gotten much better food elsewhere for the price I paid. Pros: Warm ambience, good food, attentive servers Cons: Too expensive, small portions more
