This is a really nice aquarium but they let too many people in at once! And most of the people have children and that equals STROLLERS!!!!! I pay more to get in so i should be abl...

Amazing... (I felt that I had to edit my previous review) 10/7/2006

Okay, first of all, I don't understand all of the negative reviews. My husband took me to the aquarium last Saturday. I fell in love with it. I talked him into buying anual passes. The whales were amazing, as well as a beautiful collection of nurse sharks, sting rays, and other fish. The viewing windows were fine, however, as it got closer to 12 and 1 o'clock in the afternoon, the crowd began to grow quite a bit. It did get rather crowded, and I am definately not one for crowds. The food court was nice. There was a good selection, but it was pricy. One thing that surprised me: they serve beer in the food court. Needless to say, my husband was pleased by that. I have to admit, I thought it would be bigger, but it was deffinately worth the trip and the money. I can't wait to go back. I have been to the Chatanooga Aquarium and the San Fransico Aquarium, and I still believe that it is woirth it to visit the Georgia Aquarium.\r I'd like to add a special message to paddytakes: Talking about raising the prices to keep the riff-raff out... My husband and I both work full time jobs and are raising two boys. If the prices were raised, we would never have been able to go. We are not riff-raff by any means and we are slightly offended by your comment. In the future, please keep in mind that just because someone doesn't have a large sum of money, he/she is not riff-raff. If you have a problem with those of us who are not as financially well-off as others, try moving out of Georgia. Pros: wonderful viewing... Cons: pricy food court more

A Great Experience 9/3/2006

Prior to going to the Aquarium, we read some of the reviews. At the time, those reviews were mostly negative. Despite those reviews, we decided to take our 5 year old grandson when he came to visit. We are so glad we did. It was very fascinating. All of us loved the atmosphere, the fish and their displays. While it isn't as nice as the Monterrey Aquarium, it certainly comes close. We will definitely take future out of town guests to visit regardless of their age. Didn't like having to go through the gift shop to get out...now that's a rip off. Pros: Exit through the gift shop Cons: The facility more

If I want to waste more time, I'll go back to the Georgia Aquarium 9/3/2006

What a disappointment. The Aquarium boasts that it's the world's largest. Maybe the world's largest crowds. It's painfully obvious that they are trying to recoup construction costs by overpacking their exhibits. If they would cut the number of admissions by at least half and increase the admission charge to keep the riff-raff out it MIGHT have been an enjoyable experience. Putting the overwhelming crowds aside (which is no small task), the various exhibits still lacked something. There was very little educational material inside, nothing to tell you what kind of fish were inside the tanks. And the staff? Virtually non-existent. Other than cashiers and one or two people behind the information desk, I saw ONE girl next to the otter tank explaining to the multitudinous throngs about the happy swimmers inside. And where the hell were the dolphins, sharks (besides a couple hammerheads) or orcas? Half the aquarium still isn't finished being built yet. If you feel like risking it, at least wait a couple years until the WHOLE THING is done. Pros: I got some exercise trying to push my way through too many people. Cons: TOO. MANY. DAMN. PEOPLE. more

Best Aquarium Anywhere! A Fantastic and Magical Place! 8/18/2006

This is one of the most AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL beautiful places I have ever been to. True, it is a little crowded but if you are patient and go expecting to wait a little at each exhibit, you will have no problem seeing everything, at which you can stand/sit there as long as you want. People complain about the entrance cost, but anything this awesome is worth the price. I have an annual pass and take the opportunity to show this fantastic place off to relatives and friends whenever they visit the Atl. Do yourself a favor and ALWAYS make a reservation ahead of time, which will save you the headache of waiting in line for spots that may or may not open up on any given day. (I have never waited more than 10 minutes to get in the door when I have done this and I have been 10 times).\r \r The food court is one of the best in any museum/zoo/garden/cafeteria and offers variety and quality. Despite a regulary long line, it moves quickly - again, just be patient and you will get through. \r \r One of my favorite things to do now is to sit in the Ocean Voyager room, stare at the massive and beautiful tank, watch the whale sharks and golden trevoli swim by, listen to the classical music and think about life. It is breathtakingly beautiful (not to be sappy but it brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it). Thank you Bernie Marcus, well done. Pros: EXhibits, Ambience, Food Cons: Long lines so be patient and you get through quickly more

Way too crowded! 7/9/2006

They let way too many people in the aquarium for it to be an enjoyable experience. Some of the exhibits were nice, but Chattanooga, or Charleston were better in terms of atmosphere. I guess we set our expectations high because of the hype. But at virtually every window, we were getting bumped into by other people and kids were running between our legs and stepping on our shoes. I finally decided to skip a couple of the areas and just bail. And then, when we tried to leave, we had to weave through more people and Made-in-China junk in the gift shop. You see, to exit, you must pass through the gift shop. If they cut down on the number of people by about 1/2, then it might be better. There's a difference between crowded, and absolutely packed. When you literally can't turn around without bumping into someone, it's too crowded. And forcing parents to take their small children through that maze of overpriced, colorful merchandise is just wrong. The Georgia Aquarium was the bust of our vacation. Save your money, or go to Chattanooga. Pros: Easy to get to... adequate parking Cons: Too crowded to enjoy more

I've seen better... 6/18/2006

The largest aquarium? I didn't notice an abundant lack of space - there were TOO MANY people! You could barely get close enough to view many of the exhibits. The placards with fish names - many weren't even lit. An ""educational"" experience, it's not. There wasn't much information given on the fish! We spent the additonal $50 for the ""behind-the-scenes"" tour. Save your money! They advertise it as much better than it is. Yes, you see the vets' offices - but there's no one in there doing anything. Yes, you see where they prepare the food for the fish/mammals - but no one is in there - looks like any ordinary kitchen. You do get to see the tops of 2 of the larger exhibits, but it's mostly just pumps & filters. It's not a closer look at the fish (but we did get a nice view of the whale shark from above, but you see the same thing from below so...). Save the extra $50. Pros: parking, fish Cons: way too crowded & can't see the fish - very, very crowded more

are you surprised? it is the GEORGIA aquarium 6/15/2006

georgia gets this great gift of a free aquarium. and not only over charges to get in...they cant even make a proper brochure to advertise it....ie see welcome centers. of course it is a food court mall with aquariums. i was actually....sadly....more impressed even with the Ripleys Believe it or Not Aquarium that was in gatlinburg. that was even more informitive and more interesting less crowded. the kids were even well behaved there. . next time if i want to see fish ill go to the shallow end of tybee island and see sea life in the shoals... or go see the turtles come on to land to lat there eggs...or how about going for a swamp tour in the okeefenokee. maybe it is a weekend trip ...but it is better time spent. Pros: there are fish Cons: and screaming children more

Long lines even with pre-purchased tickets ! 6/12/2006

The Aquarium is more hype than anything. If you have previously been to Sea World, the Tampa Aquarium or even the one in Monaco, you will think this one is not worth the effort. There are way too many people allowed in at once so seeing the exhibits is difficult + lots of screaming children which makes the soothing experience of watch fish not soothing at all. Five of us were very dissappointed! We had to wait in lines even with pre purchased tickets. Parking is an additional $10 and shows also cost additionally. It will not take you more than 1 hour at the slowest pace to see everything. unless you don't get out much, you will not enjoy this experience. Wait a year or two and maybe the lines will at least improve. Pros: There were fish. Cons: See the fish elsewhere more

Great experience, just go on the right day... 6/11/2006

I'm not sure why so many people are knocking the aquarium. Perhaps they have gone during Holiday periods or on weekends... \r \r I agree crowds can be a problem, but that is a testament to how incredible this place really is. My family and I have annual passes and have been about 4 or 5 times since it opened. We have been there when the crowds were VERY small, and been there when it is overflowing with capacity. Going on Saturday morning at 11:00 is not a good idea if you don't like crowds. I've gone on a Friday afternoon and the crowds were not bad at all.\r \r As for long lines, buy your tickets in advance off the web. The line to get in will be much shorter. I have maybe had to wait a max of 5 minutes on the most crowded day to get in.\r \r As for the comments on the ""mall atmosphere,"" with the food court... We have never eaten there and never really payed any attention to it. We went to see the fish, not the food (although I think we bought a coke there once).\r \r Anyone thinking about going, should go regardless of time or crowds. The experience is absolutely incredible. Of the 5 major exhibits, the ony one I consistently ""pass"" at is the Georgia Explorer. Not becuase it is not incredible, just that our son (<2) is too young to fully experience the touch tanks and such. The Ocean Voyager alone is worth the price of admission, really! And regading the price, I agree it seems a bot high, but have you priced any other major attractions lately? This place is not exactly cheap to operate...\r \r Regarding helpfullness of the staff, I found that almost all of the exhibits have friendly staff that will tellyou everythign you ever wanted to knwo about what you are looking at.\r \r Don't be distracted by the naysayers, you shoudl experience this place at least once. You will be talking about how great it is with family and friends for a long time to come. We in Atlanta are VERY lucky to have such a world-class facility right here in our backyard. Pros: Incredible visuals, definitely worth it Cons: Weekend crowds more

Very disappointing. Very. 6/4/2006

Seriously, it felt like a fish mall. Everything was based around the food court. I think they decided to just build a place for people to have proms and such, and decided fish would be a neat back drop to such events. Half of the fish looked like they'd been through hell and back. Penguins were very sad looking. You're paying $20 to see clown fish, jelly fish, cat fish, and lots of rude children running around everywhere. Pros: Dragon Fish Cons: disappointing, mall-like atmosphere, lay-out more

Box of Demons 6/3/2006

This place is very nice if you can stay there the whole day. The price to stay for one hour is 22 dollars, which is NOT worth it!! Believe me.. You have to wait at least 20 minutes to go through an area to see the fishes. Even then, you have some unintelligent mother blocking the view with her kids, or someone who just doesn't want to move. There is no courtesy and the staff doesn't do a good job with keeping people moving. If you don't have much patience and have a tight budget, this place is not for you. Sure it's really awesome, but it was downright miserable for me. Pros: NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING Cons: EXPENSIVE, LONG LINES, BLOCKAGE more

World's Largest?! Tour Done in 1 hour 5/8/2006

Last Visited: May 6, 2006. I was disappointed. I was hoping to see something unbelievably gigantic. For US standard, GA Aquarium is a shame, please stop putting the word 'The largest in the World' or whatever exegerated languages, because it isn't. The species they have are limited, the viewing screen is so small that you have to fight with the crowd to lean closer to see what is in there. Then when you will feel totally ripped off when you saw what they had are just normal clown fishes that you can find in the pet store. Besides the beluga whale, you get to touch star fishes, corals, prawns, sting rays, and baby shark. Those are the good part and only part that excites me. Don't pay $23 to get your disappointment. Chicago aquarium is far better than them. Pros: Beluga Whale, fish touching Cons: small viewing screen, limited variety, crowded more

waste of money, ridiculous crowds 4/25/2006

ridicuous crowds of loud busload tour groups (i went on a wed. afternoon) clog the bottleneck halls between aquarium windows filled with (besides the beluga whales, which were very cool) pretty sad exhibits for such a boastful venu. the place is set up like an amusement park and smells of the food court which sits in the middle. maybe an 7 year old would be impressed, having not seen large tanks before, but anyone else...forget about it. the aesthetics are a joke. nothing but very fake looking boulders for walls. i've serioulsy been to moderatly priced aisian restaurants that had more ambiance. save your money...and don't forget it's $10 to park. Pros: beluga whales Cons: loud crowds, zero aesthetics, sad displays more
