Unexpected 5/19/2005

It was the end of a very hectic day when I went here and this place was like a tonic. The service was excellent and atmosphere sophisticated but very relaxed. Don't expect New Orleans seafood (though the gumbo was outstanding) but the fish is world class. The sweet potatoes are like a taste of heaven. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: expensive more

Good food - average service 2/11/2005

Reviews indicated that GW Fins offered some of the freshest and best seafood in New Orleans. The food didn't disappoint -- my wife's ahi tuna was perhaps the best we have tasted. The service, however, was decidedly uninspired; slow, beyond the point of good pacing, and there was a distinct lack of passion. We also found the dining room large, noisy, and impersonal. If you're looking for good seafood then check this place out but don't expect first rate service or an intimate atmospherel more

One of the best seafood restaurants 1/5/2005

Overall, it was a great dining experience. My husband and I both had the Tuna Tartare to start. It was rather disappointing as the tartare was rather bland and the flavors overpowered by the side of japanes seaweed salad. The main courses did make up for the Tartare. The Bouillabaisse was excellent and contained a generous serving of seafood. My husband's fish was cooked to perfection. We pre-order the Apple Pie and it was served nice and hot. I liked the extensive wine list by the glass. more

Anniversary delight! 5/11/2004

Wonderful 10th anniversary dinner. Seated promptly. Treated like royalty. When placing our order we also ordered one of the house specialties, the baked apple pie...it's made to order. We began our dinner with salads, a nice spring mix. I also had a cup of gumbo. The gumbo was fairly standard for New Orleans but very good. My husband ate the tuna stating it was delicious. The grouper I ordered for dinner was incredible! We shared the side of fresh green beans tossed in a garlic butter sauce. Then came dessert...the apple pie. First our waitress brought a plate lit with 2 candles and ""Happy 10th Anniversary"" written in chocolate. Tastefully done! The maitre'd even came by and offered us congratulations. This was all done quietly so as not to draw too much attention. I was very impressed. Oh! The apple pie is not to be missed. Overall a GREAT experience! Pros: Ambiance, Service, Good Value more

Don't Miss This place 9/17/2003

I am a ""foodie"" from San Francisco and I researched restaurants and hit some of the best. G W Fins was one of my two favorites (the other was Peristyle). Beatiful Decor ... excellent service. I had Chilean Sea Bass and it was a unique dish and superb .. the lobster potstickers ... my mouth waters just remembering them, there were four of us and we found nothing to complain about ... the apple pie with cheddar cheese crust was sensational as well ... don't miss GW Fins! Best Fish I've Ever Had 8/22/2003

I had the Turgot, my friend had the Seabass. We both agreed that it was the very best fish either of us had ever had, anywhere. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great service, good value. more

As good as it gets... 3/28/2003

This restaurant was recommended by several friends and we found very favorable reviews via the internet. GW Fins lived up to every expectation. Ambiance was lively and ecclectic. The service was outstanding! There were several people waiting on us (head waiters, food servers, etc.) but they were not intrustive what-so-ever. The waiter was well versed on the menu and had many suggestions. I did find the wines by the glass a bit pricy, but then again, you're in New Orleans. I had the wood smoked scallops and they were to die for. If you're looking for a GREAT place to spend your time and your money, GW Fins is one of the best New Orleans has to offer. Make sure you have reservations. Ask for a seat by the window!!! This place a MUST!!! Pros: Outstanding menu/food, Lively atmosphere, Excellent Service more

Failed The Test 3/1/2003

I was so excited about visiting this establishment. It had rave revues ! My husband & I are frequent visitors to the quarter....in addition to being seafood and fish lovers. I was bitterly disappointed. The Calamari I ordered was tough and the sauce was cold. My Caesar salad was the worst I have ever had. I don't know who wrote the rave revues...must have been the owners. Pros: Service Cons: Crowded, Noisy, Poor Food more

Superb! 6/10/2002

Visited GW Fins two evenings in a row the food was soooo good. The service is impeccible and they aim to please. First night we had the lobster dumplings (not to be missed), pompano, the salmon and drum (a local tasty fish). Creme brulee was better than excellent. Moreover, the waitpeople were very, very accomodating. The second night the chef/owner came over to chat. I'd definitely put it on my list of ""must eats"" in Naw'lins. Pros: Elegant dining, Superb service, romantic ambience more
