Best

I have been here several times and I always have good food and good service. I especially love coming here in the summer when I can sit on the patio.

Worst

We had a not-so-great breakfast/brunch experience (11:30 am Labor Day). The place was crowded, the service was slow, and if you wanted a clean table you had to clean it yourself....

Great Variety 3/7/2005

I stopped in looking for a quick bite on a Saturday afternoon. It was a good decision. Quite a large selection of different foods such as sandwiches, soups, and salads. Deserts looked great as well. I got the turkey and bacon crossant, and it came with chips and salsa which was a pleasant surprise. It is pretty much like a Culvers as far as service. You order at the counter, you are given a placard (which takes the place of a number) and then the food is brought out to you, so dont expect to be waited on. Definately worth a look. Pros: Variety more

Major Bummer 5/14/2004

I had been excited to try this place for some time. However, the food was terrible and the service wasn't great. The belgium waffle I had was rock hard. I couldn't even saw through it with the knife (maybe they should serve a steak knife with it). They were also out of clean coffee cups and spoons. You can get so much more at other restaurants that actually provide service and better food for less money and in less time. I was bummed. Cons: , slow service more

Great Lunch Spot 3/11/2004

A girlfriend and I visited this place over our lunch on a Tuesday. There were plenty of parking spaces and plenty of tables too. I ordered an iced tea, and the sandwich/soup combo - totaling $9.10. Typically I'd say this was way too spendy for a lunch, but the food was excellent. The hemp seed bread was just crunchy enough. The broccoli cheese soup was light and refreshing although the pieces of broccoli were whole, so I had to take them out of my soup and cut into little pieces. I was confused on how to order and get your food. My iced tea was placed on top of the bakery display, but I wasn't told. Later, after I had received my lunch, my friend noticed my tea--why didn't the runner notice I was missing a drink or why wasn't I told where to pick it up? Pros: Food quality, Variety, Healthy Cons: , Confusing ordering more

Freedom Meadow 3/31/2003

For breakfast...I like french meadow. I like sitting outside, i like drinking ridiculously expensive fresh squeezed orange juice, I like huge blueberry/hempseed pancakes, and I like half priced wine on saturday. But that's just it; I only like it. The breads and pastries are very good and the dinner items are pretty good AND organic. It's very busy, especially on the weekends, for breakfast. Too busy to find a place to sit sometimes. But they are efficient, and for the volume I do not think they've ever messed up an order. I want very badly for them to make something I love...but for now, I'll have to wait. I recommend the french toast and the cinnamon rolls. Pros: Mmmm Bakery Cons: Sunday Morning Madnes more

Cakes, Pastries & Breads to die for 11/27/2002

The food overall here is wonderful. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about what they are selling. The use organic products and serve a variety of vetagarian/vegan foods and sweets. more

Delicious Food! 11/13/2002

I, with three others, had an enjoyable late-evening dining experience at French Meadow. The food was excellent with nothing to complain about. I had a wonderful grilled cheese sandwich made with perfectly toasted bread. I also sampled two different and delightful quesadillas. Our server was not adept at describing the specials, but otherwise I had no complaints regarding her. We got good value for our money, but if a $9 sandwich scares you, you might want to consider dining elsewhere. Pros: organic food, local produce more

Waste of money 10/23/2002

Buy the bread. Don't waste your time on the food. Trust me on this one. The last (and final) chance I gave this place, I paid almost $13 for a veggie burger and a root beer, and believe you me, the burger might as well have been a garden burger made in my microwave. The bread and desserts, however, are fantastic. My overall feeling is that French Meadow is attempting to be too many things at once: bakery, coffehouse, restaurant. It should stick to what it does well; not attempt to pass off mediocre food as high quality. Pros: bread, desserts Cons: menu items, cost more

Very Californian 9/10/2002

I don't know what these other people are talking about- French Meadow was GREAT! I am in Minnesota visiting relatives but normally live in California, and happy to say that FM is the closest I've seen to California cuisine! In general, I think Minnesota restaurants are awful with no distinction or originality (all the same kitschy dive bar type atmospheres or fast food), but FM had only the freshest vegetables, great ambience, wide-ranging menu, VERY friendly staff, etc. It also had that whole laid-back California attitude going on and was casual, but still good-looking, too. I was so happy to be there- I just breathed a sigh of relief!! Pros: Friendly waitstaff, Excellent menu, Good value more

marginal 9/2/2002

We had a not-so-great breakfast/brunch experience (11:30 am Labor Day). The place was crowded, the service was slow, and if you wanted a clean table you had to clean it yourself. The quiche was like rubber in the middle. Seriously - we could barely get the fork through the first bite. Perhaps they should have concentrated on the quality of the quiche instead of the quantity of the eggs in it. The pancakes were great, but they didn't come with enough syrup, and the hemp nuts mentioned on the menu were absent on the cakes. The sourdough toast turned out to be a strange wheat toast (burned, of course) that seemed to be full of birdseed. I'll try this place again because the menu items were plentiful and interesting, and the prices were right. But the first time wasn't so great... Pros: prices, selection Cons: parking, service more

Delicious pastries 8/11/2002

Although the wait staff is notorious for being rude and put-out by being asked for anything, it is worth going for the food, at any time of day. The pastries and fresh breads are to die for! Pros: Healthy, Variety, Fresh bread Cons: waitresses crabby, limited parking more

Organic Heaven 7/23/2002

French Meadow Bakery is organic heaven for breakfast lovers. From their fresh fruit bowls to their organic wheat pancakes and syrup, you will not be disappointed! Pros: Organic, Fast Service more

Tempe Tantrum 5/27/2002

My first and last experience with the French Meadow Cafe was not an impressive one. Putting aside the the lack of employees to assist customers on a busy Sunday morning, the vegetarian food was quite scary. I ordered what the French Meadow calls a ""Tempe Reuben"". I do not know where they got the idea that it is a reuben of any sort is beyond me. The sandwich was irrecognizable as anything. It looked and tasted like someone's regurgation. The biggest mystery about that sandwich was what was it that they were trying to pass off as thousand island dressing? In conclusion, the sandwich was orange, runny, smelly, and very distasteful. Maybe if I had ordered something else from the menu...but if you are a vegetarian that sometimes orders mock meat, do NOT order the reuben! Pros: outdoor dining Cons: service when busy, value for quality more

Great breakfast 5/12/2002

All the food here is good -- soups, breads and so on -- but breakfast is my favorite. Lots of tasty baked goods. The atmosphere is laid-back, so it's a good overall experience. Pros: great breakfast Cons: can be crowded more
