Elkhound Ranch Kennels

We've been using Elkhound Ranch Kennels since 2007 when we moved to Kansas City. We take our two dogs there every time we go on vacation, and we've never had any trouble. I like that they have Sunday hours to pick up our dogs, and I think they have fair and reasonable prices. They are close to where we live, and the dogs seem to like them. They get excited every time we go there. more

The folks at Elkhound Ranch Kennels are amazing. I wish we didn't move because we would still be using them for our pet services! We went to them quite often. Whenever we went on vacation, they would take care of our chihuahuas. Our dogs always came back to us in great health. Other places we tried taking our dogs to would return them back a little lighter in weight than when we dropped them off. Being that our chihuahuas are only 2-3 pounds, we definitely didn't want that! One of the things we liked the most at Elkhound Ranch was that whenever we arrived to drop off our dogs, the staff would pay close attention to any special instructions we had. Elkhound Ranch would even post pictures of our dogs online to show us how they were doing. It seemed that they were always in good spirits there. The new owners has put every effort in taking care of your pets. They are very nice and concerned owners, I know them personally, and they would never harm anyones pet. As any owner of a bussiness they have to juggle the children and personal living to meet the public, they will treat you with respect if you will do the same. So think about what you say before you speak, because it could be you in that position some day. You are more than welcome to contact me and talk to me in person how I know the owners. more

I've been using Elkhound Ranch Kennels for about two and half years. I use them for overnight stay when I go on vacation, but I also take my dog to daycare. Usually I drop her off before they open. When I call ahead, they're supposed to put her name on a kennel run. They seem to forget a lot, which means I have to just put her in an empty run. When that happens, I'm just concerned about how long she's in there before they realize she's there. So that's something they could improve on. I continue to use them because I can tell my dog enjoys her time there. I can tell by how excited she gets when we get there. The people are nice to me, and if I have a concern they address it. more

So far I've used Elkhound Ranch Kennels three times since it changed owners, and every time has been positive. It was a little bit of a surprise though, because when the new people took over nobody told me about it. I just left my dog there, and when I came back to pick him up there was a new person at the desk. They seem fine. I just don't feel like I've built a relationship with the new people yet. They always seem to have room. I keep going because I'm used to going there, and I know my dog is used to going there. I boarded him for a month over the summer, and he did the training service under the previous ownership. He also got a bath from them one time. I love that they have an off-leash dog area because my dog is not friendly with other dogs. It's the one place I've found where I can let him run and not have to worry about other dogs. more

Honestly, Elkhound Ranch Kennel's transition from the former owners to the new owners was flawless. As a consumer, that's HUGE. It didn't interrupt my life even a little bit. I liked that a lot. I wasn't even aware there was a change of hands, which was a big thing for me because they never missed a step, and I still had a reliable, safe place to take my baby dog. more

I have known about Elkhound Ranch Kennels for years. It's nice to have them close to the house. Our son's dogs are quite energetic. They're happy there. The staff and everyone treated them wonderfully. The staff even invited us to come by and visit them. It was comfortable there for the dogs and us. One of the dogs had developed a skin problem that required medication, and the staff took real good care of that for us. We're very happy with them. more

We have a German Shepard that we kennel frequently at Elkhound Ranch Kennels since both my wife and I travel out of town a lot, every 2 or 3 weeks for several days. The dog and the staff get along great! He loves them and they love him. We feel comfortable having him there. In the last 2 years, he's been there several dozen times. Our dog is happy, so we're happy. We wouldn't go anywhere else. more

I've already recommended Elkhound Ranch Kennels. I started using them about two years ago, so I'm a longstanding customer. They are conveniently located by the airport. They give the animals a lot of free time outside in a fenced in area. They get walks a couple time a day, and they get to run and be social. When I drop my dog off, he is usually happy to go. He knows where he is, and he's ready to play. The dogs aren't kept in a little cage, so they have room to move. They put the social dogs with other social dogs so they have companionship. For just two or three bucks more it's absolutely worth it. more

My family dog stayed at this kennel for a week while we were on vacation and died a couple of hours after she was picked up. She was dropped off in perfectly healthy condition and had even been playing fetch the day she was dropped off. We were given a call mid-week of her stay and were told that she was not eating. We gave the kennel tips on how to get her to eat and told them if she does not get better to contact her vet. We did not hear from the kennel until the day she was picked up. When she was picked up the dog look so incredibly sick that we could barely recognize her. The kennel neglected to call the vet when she was not getting better. We immediately took her to the vet where we were told that she was in critical condition and was in kidney failure from being so dehydrated. She lived a matter of hours and then past away. My family was very upset that we didn't have a chance to get the dog the care that she needed. Our dog had no previous health conditions and this came as shock. Chances are very high that the dog would have lived if she was given the proper care. Our dog had stayed at this kennel previously when it was under different ownership and she was perfectly fine which made us feel comfortable leaving her again. Under the new ownership our dog was neglected to the point that she passed away. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LEAVING YOUR PET AT THIS KENNEL. These people do not care about your pets and do not have the competence to run a kennel properly. Please do not make the same mistake we did. I worked at Elkhound Ranch Kennels a year ago because one of my friends was the previous owners daughter, and I must say it is the cleanest and most well-kept facility I have ever seen. However the owner at the time was borderline abusive to the animals when training and handling them, and quite obviously abusive to his family, and frequently embarrassed them in front of the other employees. I was fired as soon as my training ended for reasons that are still a little unclear to me. However since then, my family has gotten a dog and left him with the new owners and I have been told by them about the remarkable attitude and care the new owners have shown the animals left in their care. I've seen a lot of reviews from others saying that they will never return to Elkhound Ranch Kennels because of the negligent and abusive care their animals received at the hands of the previous owner, but I would recommend trying it once again with these new owners because it really does have some of the b more

I had Klondike with Adam and Sara for two weeks while we were out of the country. We called to check on him a few times and were very happy with with the feed back. When we picked him up he was very happy and looked great. In the past we left him at another kennel in town and he was very nervous for a couple of days after the experience. I really felt like Adam and Sara cared about him and made sure he was happy and comfortable. I feel great having found a home away from home for him when we are gone. Sachi enjoyed playing in the park before going in for her bath and grooming. Sachi has spent the night here and never had a problem Just in for bath and grooming yesterday though and what a fantastic job the groomer did. I could not find one loose hair on her when picking her up! Loved it! more

Our dog Scrappy was totally taken care of for a week while we went on vacation. The minute he walked in, he was happy to be there. When we picked him up, he was so happy, looked great & healthy. Scrappy walked around all the employees as if to thank them for being so good to him. I would highly recommend this kennel. The nice part, he got to go in & out all day through a doggy door in his kennel. He got fresh air then went inside in the air condition if he was too hot. Played with other animals & got daily walks. The groomer at Elkhound Ranch Kennels takes special care to groom my dog the way I want it done. He calls before he comes and we talk about what trimming should be done and any issues. My dog has to be groomed every 3 weeks so we see their groomer every 3 weeks and he ALWAYS brushes my dog's teeth! I have never had a groomer brush a dog's teeth before! This groomer is the best I have ever used, and I have used a lot of groomers for past dogs. more

We've been taking our dog there to be boarded for about 6 years whenever we go on a trip. She seems to love going there. more

They have personal service, they always know who I am when I call. My dog has some health issues, so they always remember what needs to be done with her. more

It's always a good experience with them. They're always very friendly and accommodating. I am a frequent customer of theirs because I travel a lot for work. They provide me with a discounted rate based on the amount of business I give them. more

Elkhound Ranch Kennels is good about handling short notice requests. They seem to go out of their way to take care of me even if it is an after-hours pickup or drop off. I have been using them since 2008 and I have no complaints. more

Elkhound Ranch Kennels provides the best care for my dog. My dog is aging and I feel good about dropping her off there. They treat her well and she loves going there. I leave for business trips with comfort that she will be taken care of and when I pick her up she always looks good. more
