This place sucks ROYALLY!!! I went with my out of town friends and my wife because we heard they had good Pina Coladas and the place next door (Sea Food City)(which has excellent coladas and good food) was not an option for us due to the type of ghetto diva and self proclaimed big shot clientele which frequents the place (shame, cause the food and drinks are good). Anyway, the coladas were decent (not gonna lie) but they had no alcohol in them(as far as I could tell)(I'm an occassional drinker, so I should be able to taste the slightest hint of alcohol). No one at my table could taste alcohol in their drinks either. I pointed this out to the waiter which proceeded to give me some lame reasonings such as the sugar in the drink turns to alcohol when it ferments. I had to tell him to spare me the excuses and serve us plain water from then on. My main meal ($20) which was the griled salmon with vegetables was awfull and not even worth five dollars. It was way too salty, dry, really thin and small (about a quarter inch thick, five inches long and three inches wide). Not saying that it was, but it tasted microwaved. The vegetables weren't even fresh. My wifes dish which was the mofongo, was also way over sasoned. My friends made comment to us but were clearly dissapointed. One of them tasted her meal and refused to eat the rest, claiming she wasn't hungry even though she mentioned she was famished an hour earlier. For $170 for four people (one drink and one dish each), the portions were small and overseasoned and the service was less than mediocre. I was going to leave a less than appropriate tip but noticed that the gratuity was already included in the price. i guess thats what happens in places that suck, they can't count on good quality so they make sure to tip themselves before you do. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. steer clear of it. more

YUM YUM 1/5/2012

Can't judge a book by it's cover 12/12/2011

The place is as beautiful as you see on the website; the name solicits thoughts of Tapas and Sangria in Madrid or San Juan. The experience ends there. The food is overpriced for what you get-- they charge Sammy's prices for 1/2 the food. They substitute items without letting the customer know. The music did not go with the place and was booming over loud large speakers. The waitress was actually very nice, polite and attentive; but management presented her like a waitress at IHOP which contrasted the look of the restaurant. Also should be upfront about Hookah Bar as some people do not want to dine where there is any kind of smoking. Tried it once. Will not go back; will not recommend. more

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE 8/11/2011

This place did not serve my boyfriend and I. We noticed that people that came in 30 minutes after us were served and let go!!!! Then we notice that the other races were served in a timely matter. Furthermore, they were even given bread and refills when we weren't even offered it!!!!! We go fed up and concluded that they just didn't want to serve us so decided to pay for what we ordered which were 2 Martinis, 2 sodas(no refills included) and a side of potatoes (the total came up to $46!!!!) On top of that they charge GRATUITY FOR 2!!!!!! They waitress didn't even deserve it she was horrible but on karma terms we paid it. In addition, I think our food was tampered with!!!!!!! What a horrible place they should be ashamed to call themselves an establishment. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. THEY SHOULD BE RUN OUT OF BUSINESS. POOR SERVICE! more

FUHGETTABOUTIT !!!! 6/9/2011

I tried Tapas on CIty Island last night with my son, daughter-in-law and friend. Since it was a beautiful evening and the interior of the restaurant was dark and dingy, we wanted to eat at its small alfresco area located in front of the restaurant and enclosed by four barricades. There was a couple already there seated at a table for 2. A waitress and female manager (or owner) set up two table for two next to the couple already seated. The space was entirely taken up by these 6 tables. more

Think Twice Before Eating Here 5/29/2011

Food was terrible, worst experience ruined my mothers day! 5/9/2011

Food was terrible, rice was hard and the beans were burned! I had to wait an hour for appetizer, then had to wait an hour and half for my dinner. Chicken was dry and steak was chewy, while waiting for my rice and beans my chicken got cold! Manager was rude, this place ruined my mothers day! We had to pay for our meals and then go and get our dinner somewhere else. Dont ever go there!! Will never recommend to anyone! more

Muy Delicioso!! 5/9/2011

The Food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting and the waitress was friendly!!! The thing I find funny is how other people are comparing this restaurant to the ghetto cafeteria of tony's or johnny's!!!! That is not food it's the equivalent of going to a fast food restaurant in the ghetto with tons of people who are rude with no manners and wouldn't know what good food is if it jumped up and bit you in the ass!!! You deserve to go there and leave class to go to Tapas!!! Tapas is very inexpensive and quite and enjoyable!! Definitely going back and planning to throw a party there!!!! more

THE WORST DINING EXPER. EVER, STAY AWAY 3/4/2011

I cant start to tell you how bad this place is. I started by trying to ask the waiter about the chef and he said he was great so i decIded to try it with my fiance. The drinks were horrible and slow. That should of been a tell but i stayed. Then i asked for a seafood soup and ceviche. OMG we waited for 45Min. and and 2 servings of bread. Well when the food finally came my soup was tomato sauce and water(discusting) and the ceviche was onions and tomato & 4 shrimps. this food was BLAND,BLAND,BLAND. well tomato sauce was plentyfull. I left the food and had to pay almost $100.00. we left and went to tonys pier for a meal that was totally enjoyable ,Plentyfull and affordable. STAY AWAY OR SUFFER BEING EMBARRESSED FOR YOU AND YOUR GUEST, more

Great atmosphere! 9/13/2010

Tapas at city island is a great place to go out and eat with the enjoyment of friends and family. The food is delicious and they do serve you enough food that you might have to take some home if you like. The atmosphere is great with a modern look to it and classy at the same time. The service is good but not great. I would love to come again to this place. more

Good food, good atmosphere 8/25/2010

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time, on a Wednesday night. The decor was casual and inviting, yet chic. Music was a little on the loud side, but waitress was happy to turn down volume immediately upon request. Tried the fried tapas platter which was fresh and very tasty. The chicken breast with crab meat was also a winner. With a side of black beans and rice and also ""maduros"" the meal was a delight. Portions were substantial. (Had to take a stroll down City Island avenue to help work off the meal) We look forward to returning soon. My only suggestion would be to play music that is more regional to Spain, perhaps classical Spanish guitar ballads or even ""The Gypsy Kings"" more

New management, terrible food. 7/31/2010

I've been to Tapas a few times over the years and I've had a fine time. I went today for the first time in a year or so and it was truly terrible. The management had to have changed. First, the food was really, really, really bad. It was like they sent their orders out to Seafood City next door. The ""traditional grilled chicken"" was chicken-nugged style breaded chunks, overcooked to boot. The sausage and cheese platter used to be delicious. This time, it was a messy heap of cheese with a few shreds of not good sausage. Everything was extremely sour and salty, and tasted terrible. Second, the decor was changed from a cozy place to a cheap pseudo-sports bar look. It used to be a classy kind of place for City Island; now, there's a big projector screen pulled down for the Yankees game. That's fine, except it's not what I want in a tapas place. Pros: Nothing. Cons: Awful fried food, nothing tapas about it. Pseudo sports bar. more

Something Different at City Island 7/9/2010

Went here for my birthday for the first time and had an amazing experience. Drinks were perfect, especially the wine. The apertizers were delicious and the Belly Dance show was a surprise and fun. The main course was unbelievably tasty and the flavors were amazing. We even had a black out for about 20 minutes and the staff still happened to make it a great experience. Will definitley make this a regular spot. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Experience Cons: None that i can think of more

Family Owned love the ambieance 7/15/2009

I've come to Tapas three times already and each time is better than the last. This is a great place for a weekend hangout the crowd is very well mixed and as soon as you walk in you feel at home. Unlike the other restaurants on the island, this place is designed to make you feel safe and comfortable sort of like family. I sat at the bar the first time and after some tapas dishes I was hooked. The next two times i brought my friends and family and they enjoyed the ent. (something new for a change). Great food, great atmosphere and super friendly service. I love what they have going and i wish them tons of luck. I highly recommend this lovely establishment Pros: great service, food and entertainment more

Tapas' food sucks...tasteless 7/4/2009

First of all, the food tasted really bad. If you like bland, tasteless food, this is your place. All three dishes we ordered weren't cooked correctly and one of the tapas had tissue stuck on it as if it was marinated with the meal. We'll never go back here again. Worst on City Island...and we've tried them all! Pros: You'll definitely get a table Cons: the food!! more

Love Tapas City Island 6/2/2009

I have been here twice and every time I have had an amazing experience. The food was awesome, the sangria was very good, and the entertainment was fun. The belly dancing was very cool and everyone in the restaurant really got into it. The bar scene is nice too. This is a great place for lunch and dinner. Also it is good for dates and great for groups. I look forward to coming back here, always a good time! Pros: Food, Entertainment, Service Cons: r u kidding me?? this place is great more
