I have had the pleasure of dining at Cafe Gelato for both lunch and dinner. The level of service I experienced at the dinner service was top notch - the type of service I had only experienced at the finest restaurants and on luxury cruise ships. The food at both meals was fresh and delicious. The gelato was fantastic! The restaurant is small and intimate and can get noisy at times but this is a restaurant that should not be missed. Love the menu, unique pasta dishes, cozy atmosphere, great service. Be sure to get on their email lists and share your birthday and anniversary--they have great, creative marketing programs which just serve to remind you how much you would enjoy going back :-) It's romantic, tho kids are welcome (we leave ours at home!) Every time I go to Cafe Gelato I have a great time. Wait staff is the best. The owner is always there and he makes sure your dining experience is the best you ever had.\r Cafe Gelato is also a very community conscience business. Many times they will have a special dinner to promote a particular wine store/brand/maker and they also have done this for brewers of locally made beer.\r On occasion they will promote a good community/non-profit cause where most of the proceeds go to that cause.\r So the next time you are in Newark, DE make sure you stop by for something to eat.\r Oh yeah, they have awsome Gelatos! stopped in for Sunday Brunch. They have a nice variety of options to chose (breakfast, sandwiches, or a combination of breakfast and lunch options.) This restaurant is great for a night out or even for lunch because its location is great. You are able to watch everyone walk up and down Main Street in the quaint town of Newark, DE. The food is delicious and presented well. There is always a variety of different dishes to fit everyone's taste. I have never had to wait long for my meal to arrive, but I do always leave room for dessert because the gelato is fantastic. There are a variety of flavors that everyone will enjoy. Also, Cafe Gelato offers many special dinners, including beer and wine night, that create a fun night out due to the ambiance in the restaurant and because of the unique presentations. My husband and I absolutely love Caffe Gelato!! We got hooked with a group of friends and go to most of the specialty wine dinners. We've also visited for birthday celebrations. The owners and staff create a comfortable, elegant, and yet casual atmosphere where one can enjoy outstanding food paired with various wines. We can easily relax and enjoy good times with friends and forget all about the day to day stresses we deal with. Thanks, Caffe Gelato! I absolutely love this place. Caffe Gelato is one of the best places I have ever had the pleasure of dining. First, it has a wonderful location, in the heart of Downtown Newark, Delaware. They have a huge parking area behind the restuarant and guess what... they will validate your parking. The food is great. It is always seasoned to perfection and contains interesting textures to make your mouth absolutely happy. I have never had a bad meal there. The ambience is awesome too. The lights are dim and the walls are decorated with the artwork of local artists. The decor is a mix between modern and chic. The presentation of their entrees are delightful. The waitstaff is always polite and helpful... offering suggestions and information on their daily special or the chef's choice of the day. My glass is never empty and they are very hardworking men and women. Lastly, the desserts are to die for. Creme Brulee, Gelato, Chessecake... you name it. If you are a memeber of their newsletter or club they will send you deals in the mail and for your birthday a card for a free dinner. I have a big problem with this restaurant. While I admit that the food is very good, I have had constant problems with both the management and the staff. Ryan, the owner, is very rude to customers and has the ""I don't need your business"" attitude. I have been to this restaurant numerous times and have always had the same experience with both him, and his staff. In addition, as the president of a local organization, I have been treated with disrespect by Ryan to the point where he didn't even show up at an event he was ""hosting"" at his restaurant, despite the fact that I confirmed with HIM the day before. While I agree that their food is great, I have a hard time continuing to support this restaurant. My friends, family and I have since taken to eating next door at Cucina Di Napoli where the food is authentic and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home and I encourage you all to do so also. We celebrate our birthdays and anniversary at Caffe Gelato, as well as other times we are looking to enjoy a wonderful meal in and intimate setting or a tasty lunch to break up the work day. Our children (8 & 4) enjoy the kids' menu and gelato, as the owner and staff are very kid friendly. The outside open cafe style dining is a great place to enjoy one of their wonderful meals. The intimate booths inside allow for a romantic dinner with that special someone. The wine list is excellent and the staff will make knowledgeable recommendations if you can not decide. If you like to try different wines, Caffe Gelato offers wine specials that allow you several different wines with dinner. Not to mention their special beer and wine dinners they offer on a monthly basis. We recommend making a reservation in advance, as they do get busy and you never know when you are up against a special weeknd at U of D. Caffe Gelato has the classiest food you'll find anywhere in Newark. The staff will also take the time to explain things to you (ingredients, etc) w/o acting as if you are imposing on them by asking a question. The food is original, authentic and absolutely worth it. more

I am never disappointed when I visit Caffe Gelato. The food, the service, the staff......all wonderful! The cuisine is always unusual and delicious....something new everytime I go. One of our enjoyable experiences this summer at Caffe Gelato was Cooking with Tanner, ""Learn to Cook Like the Pros"", a cooking demonstration by Chief Tanner. This was another great example of Ryan Germain and his staff thinking outside the box. Where else can you get a great meal, good wine, good conversation and cooking tips that you can use to impress your friends? This restaurant is batting 1,000! Caffe Gelato offers pefectly portioned, balanced, healthy meals through an imitation and renovation of the Italian cuisine. The waiters and waitresses contribute to the already prevalent welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy a meal with your company and have room for a delicious dessert, too. Having lived and traveled in Italy, my husband and I ate A LOT of food and gelato. It was hard to find an Italian restaurant in DE that even came close to that expereince. Needless to say, we found that here. Good food, romantic atmosphere and excellent gelato! We visit often. more
