Caffe Gelato

Skip the entree and order desert; a gelato. I ordered a Greek salad that arrived looking a bit unusual for a Greek salad. I asked our waitress what happened to the olives. Olives are always on Greek salads; right? In fact, I think the olives and the Feta cheese are the best part. My friendly waitress brought me a side of olives. I took a closer look and found I was missing few more ingredients. I had a bowl of lettuce and cucumbers. Curious, I asked the waitress for the menu to see the salad description. Sure enough, other ingredients were described. I put on my readers, looked closely, and I still couldn?t find them in my salad. I mentioned to my friendly waitress that it appeared that the cook forgot the tomatoes, peppers and Feta cheese. She assured me that I was wrong. All the ingredients were included in the salad, but chopped into small pieces. Ok, enough of that! Hey, I?m the customer. I sent the salad back and ordered a gelato. The gelato was wonderful and my friendly waitress said she was treating me. I hope she really didn?t have to pay for it. The salad wasn?t the real disappointment. It could have been easily remedied with an apology and a new salad. Unfortunately, the owner stood by and watched and never once acknowledged me or my disappointing Greek salad. more

Decided to take advantage of the ""free"" birthday dinner that Caffe Gelato advertises. Even though four of us were there for the dinner, because two of us ordered the ""specials"" on the menu, we were told that we couldn't use the free dinner. How ordering a ""special"" equates to the same discount as a free meal is WAY beyond me. The waitress was surly and it took several requests before we could get a manager to discuss the issue. Even then, he repeated what the waitress said. We vowed never to go back and we have not. more

I?ve never been here prior or even heard of this place before a few days ago because I don?t live in Delaware, so finding this place was a total shot in the dark while hoping the reviews were accurate?I couldn?t have been happier! My best friends had just given birth to my God Daughter at Christiana Hospital and everything was fine, well, except one thing, hospital food! I ended up finding Caffe Gelato through Google and called to see if they could not only put together a GREAT meal, but NOT for pick up, I was hoping they could deliver a personal dinner experience right to their room at the hospital; without hesitation they said, ?Absolutely!? I stopped by at 11:30am when Jeff sat down with me and put together a fantastic surf and turf meal for two with appetizers and dessert! Ok, cool, the meal is good to go, but are my friends going to eat great food off of paper plates? Nope! At the delivery around 5pm (same day) they came with everything you?d eat with as if you were actually sitting down in the restaurant, including cloth napkins and wine glasses! (Jeff gave me directions to a close wine store so they opened the bottle for my friends there as well!) My friends were floored! Caffe Gelato made me look like a might be a good God Father but far more importantly an amazingly special dinner that really doesn?t happen in a hospital. If Caffe Gelato went out of their way to do this on a delivery, I can?t wait to come back and eat there! (For complete transparency, the food was $94, the delivery was $5, yes $5, and I tipped $25) Thanks to all the staff that helped make this happen! Oh, all the dinnerware and glasses?? Caffe Gelato left a container in their room and just asked that ?when we had time? please just drop off the container at the restaurant. Cool, huh. more

First time costumer, I have heard so much rave about this place so for a special night out my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. We had reservations and had a nice corner booth waiting for us inside. The ambience and style of the restaurant was inviting and elegant. The wait staff looked professional but seemed rather cold. The host didn?t greet us until she was done taking care of something else. Our waiter presented himself well but was rather bland in personality. I have worked in the restaurant industry for sometime, I know that it is essential to make customers feel welcomed and special. Don?t get me wrong I don?t like chatty or annoying servers but he could have asked if this was a special occasion or if we have been here before. He treated us like another table something that you could expect at Applebee?s. But this place seemed to have class but when it came to its hospitality it seemed to lack. The menu was decent, there was a good variety of dishes to choose from, prices were a little high (but this was to be expected). It would have been nice to hear about specials or recommendations, like I said our waiter just wanted to take our order and move on. The food, presentation was not anything unique or extravagant. I ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon, it was very good presentation was ok; it was described as Honey-sesame glazed salmon served with mashed sweet potatoes, toasted almonds and truffle micro greens. Everything was good except for 25bucks I would expect homemade mashed potatoes not out of a can. Trust me I can tell the difference. My boyfriend ordered Lump Crab and Shrimp Fusilli described as Lump crab and saut?ed shrimp tossed in our parma rosa crab sauce with Chiffonade basil and fusilli pasta. The dish had no color, and although the taste wasn?t bad, it looked like something that should have been offered on the kids menu as spaghetti with shrimp. Growing up with Italian cuisine, I know that when it comes to pasta creativity should be your inspiration. Colors, textures, presentation is all key to a great pasta dish. As for desert we had to try the famous gelato, and yes it was great!!!! All in all the place was nice, the staff was presentable but not very hospitable, the food was good but could be better if not it may seem over priced. more

Caffe Gelato is at the top of my list! From the cozy ambiance and welcoming staff to the unique Meditteranean-inspired menu and innovative daily specials, everything about this restaurant keeps me coming back for more (not to mention the amazing Gelato!) The service is always great- servers are hospitable and very attentive. The food is impeccable and consistently delicious, whether I order something I've never had before or resort to my favorite, the pork tenderloin. Not only does the food taste amazing, the presentation is always beautiful and really adds to the subtle elegance and cozy atmosphere. The booths are great, the bar is comfortable, and the porch is a great place to sit and watch the bustling of Main St on a sunny day! Whether I'm going in for Sunday Brunch, weekday Lunch with a friend, Dinner with the family, or to one of their great themed Wine Dinners, I look forward to dining at Caffe Gelato time and time again. more

My husband and I had dinner at Caffe Gelato this evening.The prices are very high for this type of restaurant $ 29.00 for a dry lamb chop with no flavor.Salads are $6.00 extra.They don't come with the meal.We had to ask for bread ,cream for coffee,butter ,refills etc.There were only three couples there with 7 servers and the service was terrible.We only went because we rec.a $20.00 coupon in the mail.We didn't complain we just paid and left.We won't go back again the food just wasn't good.We don't recommend. more

My boyfriend and I had dinner for our one year anniversary at Caffe Gelato! It was amazing! I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good meal! The gelato is so delicious, and the service is incredible! more

I have been to caffe gelato several times and I like the food very much. The atmosphere is nice and people are friendly. Their pastas are very good and I love their gelatos. Great place to be in for some good food. more

Newly arrived to Newark, Delaware, we were invited by our neighbors to dine at Caffe Gelato. Loving Italy as we do, we were eager to try the restaruant; we knew the owner was young and had trained in Italy. The menu was suberb, and varied in its choices. The servings were huge, in the best Italian style! Our server kept a close check on us, making sure that we were happy: we definitely were, as we all sipped on martinis! The meal arrived in a timely manner and our water glasses were kept filled. How's that for service. Not that we had room, but we HAD to indulge in the dessert menu: the gelatos were devine! We plan to return to Caffe Gelato many times in the future! more

I was in Newark for a few weeks for business. I had food twice from Caffe Gelato- once in the restaurant and once catered. Both times the food and service were fantastic. more

I've been to Caffee Gelato at least 10 times over the past few years. I have always been happy with the meal. Since the restaurant was expanded a few years ago the atmosphere is great. The menu changes from time to time, but the items are always very good. The restaurant is busy so expect to wait a little for a table. But if you are looking for a nice night out with your wife or girlfriend you won't be disappointed. Very nice wine list as well. Call ahead for a reservation. more

First time here for a weekday lunch. My cousin was in town from Salt Lake City and we were exploring Main Street after visiting UD. Fun and friendly staff. Best French onion soup ever. Panini sandwich was different but delicious. My cousin had pasta fusilli and thought it was dry and could have used more sauce. Didn't plan on ordering dessert, but got talked into trying gelato. When I couldn't decide between two flavors, our server brought both. Amazing! Can't wait to bring my husband here for dinner. more

2nd time here received postcard for $20.00 off and Decided to take my children for lunch. Arrived at 3:20 p.m. ordered 2 appetizers and a meal today. It was my actual birthday. When I gave my postcard to Marcie she said only $10.00 off for lunch. Really confused, the broccoli rabe raviolis are the same price for dinner and lunch also wrong prices on actually bill . Postcard did not mention anything about difference for lunch and dinner ""birthday on us"". 33 minutes for meal and we were the only ones there. I work in a very busy restraurant in Newark and that its totally unacceptable. Pros: Nice atmosphere... Cons: 33 minutes for meal/birthday postcard not honored more

I recently took my girlfriend to Caffe Gelato for dinner. We sat on the porch and had a great evening. I had the Veal Chop and my girlfriend had one of the pasta dishes. Both were delicious! I've been meaning to try Caffe Gelato for a meal (I've stopped by for their wonderful gelato before) and I finally had dinner on Friday night. I was really impressed with the food, and the service and the atmosphere. What a great addition to a classy setting to have a violinist! We really enjoyed the music. It just made the evening perfect. I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary. I called 3 days ahead to make a reservation for a quiet/private booth. The said they would and when we arrived they sat us in the second table from the front door. It was so loud that we couldn't hear eachother from accross the table. It took me three times to ask servers or hostesses and 20 minutes to finally move us to an okay table in the back. Although it was still by the bathrooms. By this time, the mood of the evening was pretty much shot. After our move, the waiter was very pleasant and food was okay for the price. Also, the lighting was horrible, we had one candle on our table. When a elderly group sat next to us, they were complaining as well so we gave them our candle so they could actually read their menus.
