Excellent food and conversation 12/11/2007

I cannot be unbiased about this place. I *LOVE* it. After a long 12 hour day of intense physical labor, I thougt, I can go to 'The Cheese Board Pizza' and remembered Cafe Gratitude was just 2 blocks further down shattuck. The place was busy and vibrant. The service was quick, I told them ""I need a smothie quickly or I am going to die of malnutrition, what would you suggest?"" They brought back a wonderfull and delightfull drink in minutes. I picked an entre that I had never had, and it was delicious. Vegan is diffrent from the usual fare I am used to eating, but it was excellent. Its between Francisco and Virginia. Go and expect to have interesting fun. I am planning on a get together there this weekend! Pros: Excellent, interesting and nurishing food. Top Shelf Vegan. Cons: Parking is hard, but you can find places to the east. more

Rude staff, small portions, OVER priced- but it's wonderfully decorated... lol 9/15/2007

Very cool atmosphere--- neat couch seating style, great brick walled interior, fun play on words type water bottles, LOVE the lighting and that I could see into the ktichen... The food was gag worthy. I am sorry to say that now when I look back on what I ate, I could honestly say I am gagging. I am a vegan (non raw) food eater, so that may be where my bias comes in, but I am very open to new things, and this was nasty. OK, so the salad had a VERY peper taste to it and actually made you HOT and sweat and our lips were numb. The ""pizza"" was very small and could feed maybe a small child. The portions are TEEENY for the price. The wait staff were all very rude and not one smile did I see... and our table gave our waitress a 50 dollar tip (13 people there) and she never smiled, came back to ask if everything was OK, got 3 orders wrong... blah. Parking is aweful, but that comes with the location... Got that... Anyway, I would NEVER, will NEVER go back, nor will 9 of the 13 I was with the other night. I say save the money, and make some great vegan at home. :) Pros: ambience is very awesome and creative and the seating and temp of the place great Cons: OVER PRICED SMALL PORTIONS more
