The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Great Specials, Super Service 9/15/2009

I ate there last Friday and had the omelet special of the day; crab, pesto, mozzarella, tomato. It was great!! Blue Moon is known for their Capt Crunch French Toast, which I think everyone should try. But... if there are any special omelets try them!\r Overall we had a very enjoyable experience, the food was great, didn’t have to wait long like on weekends, and our server Mallory was very friendly and polite.\r Pros: food, service Cons: small more

Worth every bite! 9/13/2009

The Maitre d' felt that ""it might be better if you (my wife) sat there"" in order to give 'them' (current customers) enough room. The customers were somewhat large, and we're not stick figures, either, but we are what we are. We were insulted by the comment. He wasn't tactless intentionally, but he should not have made the comment.\r \r Our waitress (the tattoo girl - I can't remember her name, sorry!) was very polite and thanked us for waiting. Even though the cafe was packed, she was still able to get our meals to us in a timely manner.\r \r The chipped beef on the biscuits was amazing! Our portion was 6""x8""x2"", enough for at least three people, and DELICIOUS! My wife is very picky about hash browns, but loved these. They are the shredded kind, not the diced kind, and NO paprika. The cinnamon bun we ordered to-go was gi-normous and had a wonderful flavor. The sausage wasn't the best we've had. It wasn't bad, but the flavor just didn't stand out. Their signature dish, the Cap'n Crunch French Toast, was outstanding. My only suggestion for improvement is to soak the bread with a little more egg mixture, since ours was just a little dry.\r \r We will definitely return, and will definitely recommend Blue Moon to our friends. Really good coffee, too! Pros: Reasonable prices for homemade breakfast Cons: Maitre d' less than tactful more

Awesome breakfast! 9/7/2009

6 of us had breakfast this morning. We each ordered something different (from hobo eggs to eggs benedict, etc. and a plate of captain crunch french toast for the table. Everyone was pleased with portion, presentation, and tasty, tasty, tasty food. I think I was the winner with the best omelet ever, spinach, feta, crab, and tomato. No complaints whatsoever. Get there early because this place seems to be growing in popularity and waiting starts before 9 o'clock AM. I'll be back!! Pros: great food, humble decor, hustling young workers more

Great breakfast fare 9/6/2009

Food was delivered fast and hot. The folks working there were extremely nice. Loved the Captain Crunch French toast! Others in my party loved their orders too: chipped beef and gravy over biscuits and ham/egg omelet with hash browns. The hash browns were the bomb! more

Wonderful Breakfast 9/5/2009

After seeing this place on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives, we tried it several months ago. Although a long wait, the food does not disappoint. Our server was very pleasant and cordial, thanking us for our patience in waiting. She suggested that we order a stack of the renowned Captain Crunch French Toast (which does not disappoint) for the table. This enabled me to try something new -- I recommend the feather light biscuits slathered in sausage gravy. We will go there - again and again. Pros: fantastic food Cons: long wait, but worth it more

BEST FOOD EVER 8/30/2009

Let's just get it out of the way and declare that Captain Crunch french toast is easily humanitie's greatest invention. Other than that I have been there about half a dozen times and everything I've gotten has been outstanding. I look around at other people's food and it looks delicious, so I order it the next time I go and it never dissappoints. It's a very cool alternative atmosphere and only has may 10 tables. That can make the wait a little long especially late night on weekends and Sunday brunch. But I assure you it is WELL worth the wait. Pros: Great food, great portions, great prices, great atmosphere Cons: Sometimes a long wait to be seated more

Breakfast to die for! 8/24/2009

Watched Guy's feature of this Cafe on foodnetwork. LOVED the captain crunch french toast! We were waited on promptly and served quickly by the owner herself. Very busy place, so it was pretty noisy. Being from southern Indiana, we thought it was very pricey. Could cut the GIANT portions in half as well as the prices and then it would be perfect! But far be it for me to tell the owner how to run her business, she's been doing it successfully for 12 years! Pros: Excellent Food! Cons: kinda noisy, kinda pricey more

Best French Toast Ever! 8/21/2009

I had read she was featured on Food Network's Diners Drive-Ins and Dives and wanted to eat there. She said they were featured for Cap'n Crunch French Toast and recommended it. Oh my god, it was the best thing I've ever eaten. Without a doubt. Portion size was perfect and the french toast was so creamy and flavorful. Absolutely unbelievable. Anyone must go to Blue Moon and eat that french toast. Pros: Comfortable Atmosphere, Amazing Food, Friendly Service Cons: Can't think of any more

WOW !!!!!!!!! 8/19/2009

The food was amazing and the decor interesting. We were seated at the counter, which was cool because we got to see more of what was going on. We had the Capn Crunch french toast and the eggs benedict with crab tomato and cheese. Gina working the counter was friendly and attentive. We will definetely be back. Pros: food is excellent Cons: a long wait, but well worth it. more

Be prepared 8/17/2009

To wait and possibly bad customer service. The captain crunch french toast was excellent and the fruit fresh. However, if you're looking for a good environment/service maybe you'd be better off going by yourself or at least get take out. If you're willing to wait then make sure to order well so that your time is not wasted.overall,I enjoyed the food ;) more

The Best French Toast Ever!!!! 8/17/2009

I was drawn to the Blue Moon Cafe after seeing it being spoken about on Diner Drive ins and Dives (a TV show on the Food Network). After one look at the Cap'n Crunch french toast shown being cooked on the show I had to try it. \r \r My wife and I live in Northern Virginia, but regardless we got in the car and made the 60 mile trip to B'more to try the french toast out. Let me tell you it was worth it! It was hands down the best french toast I have ever had. The portions were huge and the price was just right. We also had an omlet with lump Maryland Blue Crab meat. Let me tell you it was excellent. \r \r If I lived in the Baltimore area I would make the Blue Moon Cafe my weekend breakfast spot. But regardless my wife and I will be making monthly trips to the cafe for breakfast. The service was excellent. Only drawback is that its so popular and their is not much seating that you may have an hour or longer wait. But in the end the wait is worth it. \r \r Thank you Blue Moon Cafe for an excellent breakfast and experience. Pros: Best breakfast of my life Cons: long wait but worth it! more

Horrible customer service 8/17/2009

Our food took about an hour instead of the half hour promised! The staff had a attitude problem.Food is average...not worth my time, I was disappointed! more

Fix the attitude 8/17/2009

I watched the food network rave about this small cafe. I drove 1.5 hours to experience the blue moon cafe ratings. As I step in the door, I was at a lost. It was a total chaos. I didn't know I had to sign up for a table, and when I asked for one the waitress was rude and unfriendly. I was told it was going to be an hour wait so I decided to order to go. She finally took my order and told me half hour for my food. 45 minutes later I go to check if my order was ready, but to my surprise I was hard to get an answer. I waited an hour to get my saggy and greasy hash browns and omelet. The cinnamon roll was the only good thing I had, but it didn't make up for the bad treatment and long wait. The place is not kid friendly, it is not friendly at all. Pros: Worst customer service Cons: food is average more

Mmmmm....Cap'n Crunch!!! 8/10/2009

This is the best breakfast in Baltimore, or anywhere else for that matter. The Cap'n crunch french toast is ""retarded good"". The omelets are awesome. The cinnamon buns and biscuits are great too. The service is friendly and fast for a small, busy staff. If you havent eaten here you are missing out!!! Pros: Best Breakfast Ever!!! Cons: None!!! more

Expect to wait but it's worth it. 8/8/2009

Unique setting, only nine tables so be prepared to wait. Food is fresh and made with good ingredients, the crab scrambled egg special had more crab in then egg! Portions are huge, unless it's your only meal of the day, split it and you'll be fine. Worth the walk and worth the wait; can get pricey for a large group but what the heck..... Pros: fresh food, well prepared, huge portions Cons: can get pricey more

Great Crab Benedict 8/7/2009

As a boater cruising the East coast the last few years, we have taken it upon ourselves to find unique, hole in the wall places to enjoy food. We found Blue Moon via the Food Network and were disapointed after reading many negative reports on this place. I must say those people must have been having a bad day to give such a negative report. \r \r We found Blue Moon offers an exceptional menu and a quaint atmosphere. We were seated imediately and drink orders were taken and served promptly. We started our meal with a cinnamon roll that easily served 4 and was incredibly good. I had the Crab Benedict with cheddar and tomatoes and it was served with crispy scattered hashbrowns. The crab was fresh and plentiful, hollandaise smooth and tasty and livened up with the fresh ripe tomatoes. Awesome!!!\r \r The whole experience was great and I will fully recomend this as a ""must stop"" to all on visits to Baltimore!! Pros: Fresh ingredience Cons: if any, itwould be the size of the cafe more

Worth The Trip 7/25/2009

I was pleasantly surprised when my friends took me to the Blue Moon Cafe for brunch on Thursday. I had seen it on TV & read about it and actually planed a road trip to try it out. I am glad they did. My problem was not trying everything on the menu. I had poached eggs which were lightly done with tender whites. No ""steamed in a poacher"" hockey puck eggs. These served as a dressing for my short stack of cakes which were fluffy & tasty. Underneath I placed a nice piece of scrapple. I would have preferred the scrapple more crisp but hea, I am from Philly. Also under my cakes I placed the very crisp fried potatoes. As a cook and restaurant manager I felt this was a great place and am looking forward to my next visit. I only wish they had espresso... Pros: All Good Cons: no espresso more

Mmm yummy! 7/17/2009

Awesome place! Everyone talked about how bad the wait was and we were seated immediately. My bf ordered the biscuits and gravy and I ordered their famous cap'n crunch french toast with fresh berries and whipped cream. Our meals were absolutely delicious!!! The cap'n crunch French toast is to die for and the biscuits they make are super big and yummy as well. The next time we're in Baltimore we're going back to blue moon for some awesome breakfast more

delicious french toast but comes with a wait 7/13/2009

the wait was atrocious but the food was good. the servers were all rude and pushy. but the girl filling drinks and bussing tables was nice. she spoke little english but seemed to understand what we needed and was quick about it. the ladies in the kitchen were friendly and cooked up our food fast, which made up for the long wait. you could hear their laughter throughout the whole place and it made it feel really friendly. was told it was a lady and her daughter in there. we only saw them briefly running up and down the steps to the storage area in the basement but were probably the only genuinely friendly people on teh staff. sitting at the counter, we had a good view of the kitchen and the waitress station. the waitresses don't wash their hands between touching money and touching the biscuits and toast. would visit again and hope for a friendlier staff Pros: great food Cons: long wait more

Mixed Emotions 7/13/2009

I saw the Blue Moon Restaurant on Food Networks Guy's Big Bite. My husband and I decided to try it for breakfast. The owner was there, and we wanted to say hello but were brushed off like we weren't important. Just like on the show Big Bite, she had an attitude and was rude. She was carrying around her dog in her arms and letting the dog eat off plates of food in the dinning room. The little terrier was let to roam the place and ran up to other people eating and barked. The waitress, who we found was named Mallorie, was not very friendly at all. She told us the wait would be only 10 minutes but we waited nearly 2 hours. She was rude to her kitchen staff, and kept blaming them for mistakes that were really hers. The bus boy looked like he wasn't even old enough to be employeed and barely even did his job. He dropped his glasses in my plate of food, and barely even apologized for doing so, after knocking my drink into my lap as well. Some of the other staff, spent the morning yelling in spanish at each other, and probably talking about me behind my back. I felt very uncomfortable and wanted to leave. However, I was told since I had already ordered I'd have to pay either way, so I waited it out. My food was brought out to me by one of the cooks. She was the only pleasant person in the whole staff. She was bouncy and bubbly and quickly filled all my needs. She apologized for the rudeness of her co-workers and brought me a cinnamon roll as a piece offering. She even chatted with me a bit, and made me feel more at home. It turned out, she had Crohn's Disease like I did, so she was able to recommend some menu items that might not upset my touchy tummy. She took the time to correct what was wrong with my order, and made sure our drinks stayed filled for the meal. She even brought us to-go boxes, knowing we would have leftovers. She said it wasn't in her power to do anything else, but she would mention our concerns to the owner after we left (as not to embarass us), so she made me feel better about the situation. Our food was good. Just most of the staff was bad. If it wasn't for the sweet cook, I don't think we'd ever return. But, since she assured us it was just a bad day, we will return again when I know she is working. I hope she gets a better job at somewhere that will appreciate her good people skills, because most of the staff was incredibly rude. So, in short, good food, rude staff with the exception of the sweetie who looked overworked in the back. Pros: friendly chefs, decent food Cons: nasty waitress, long wait, pets running amuck more
