A gift from Tiffany will always cause a big wow, although you can often get comparable quality gems elsewhere for less -- you do pay more for the blue box. That said, don't buy on Ebay -- the stuff is usually counterfeit. At any rate, if you want a quasi-affordable treat, visit the silver floor where many pieces start under $100, or have fun, dress up and pretend you've got the big bucks to spend. Tiffany is open later and on weekends now, but largely to cater to tourists. If you want peace, quiet and sanity, go in the middle of a weekday. more

Tiffany's and their cute little blue bag is as much a New York landmark as the statue of liberty or the naked cowboy at Times Square. The jewerly here is grade A upper class and very elegant. You won't find any funky cosmetic jewerly here. They also have different floors for paper weights, writing utensils and other stuff for decorating your house. If you have the money to spare and want something made with quality buy something nice for yourself. more

The store Audrey Hepburn made famous. So ritzy most mere mortals can barely afford to step inside let alone buy anything. When soap alone costs fifty dollars you know your among overpriced everything. Four floors of jewelry, knick knacks and what nots its all very high top quality. Just for the little blue bag they give you when you purchase anything almost makes up for the high prices. more

Beautiful but pricey 6/17/2005

With Tiffany, you pay for the name. Their merchandise is beautiful and of high quality, but you can find similar items for far less at other stores. What you are paying for is the Tiffany brand. Their flagship store on Madison Avenue is a lovely place to explore, but avoid it at Christmas time when it is so busy that it becomes a zoo. The store is not conveniently laid out and you have to take a very slow elevator between floors. more
