Best cleaners in the city, possibly the country. Worth the extra money to have your clothes looked after by real professionals. I have used Barry - Regent for a couple of years since someone at Bloomingdale's recommended them and I could not be more impressed. They are consistent in quality, and have always taken the extra time when i have given them a challenge. more

Barry Regent is a great dry cleaner 11/4/2010

Barry Regent is a great dry cleaner that has been around forever. I have had every sort of service done here: from dry cleaning to alterations to having a very expensive couture sweater ""blocked"". But what I really have to give them 5 stars for is the work they did on hemming all of my designer jeans. They will alter the inseam but keep the original hem which is very important for jeans that cost a small fortune. The original hem alterations are not cheap at $25 a pop, but I think if you can dish out over a hundred and fifty bucks for a pair of True Religions, then you can probably afford the $25 alteration. It is definitely worth it!!! more

""I brought an expensive leather jacket into Barry Regents with a tear. They told me honestly that I has two options. One was to replace the entire sleeve and the other was to patch the tear by inserting a pad under the tear and using a leather glue to 'mate' the leather to the inserted cloth. They also told me that there would be a slight noticable line where the origibal tear was. I left the jacket to be repaired by the latter method and packed it up after my vacation. I really had to look hard to find the original tear. I thought they did a great mending job and I thanked them even more when I received a reasonable bill.I found the management and other people behind the counter helpful, friendly and absolutely direct and honest. I would recommend Barry Regents for all my cleaning and clothes repairs. The a few cents more really doesn't matter when you get a professional cleaning and repair with a 'smile to boot'."" more

It was still there when I went to pick it up. 10/18/2010

I've never had a problem getting anything cleaned at this place although it is a little on the expensive side. I save it for the items I can't bear to have ruined in any way. I've never had anything tailored here though, so I don't know how good the tailoring is. I once left a shirt there for over a month and it was still there when I went to pick it up. more

I'm genuinely surprised to see so many bad reviews! I've always had a good cleaning and good service from Barry Regent. Barry Regent has always cleaned my clothes thoroughly and made them like new! For me, I take my ""important clothes"" (i.e., favorite dresses and suits and silk) to Barry Regent. No one handles my important and special clothes except for Barry Regent more

Worst dry cleaners in Chicago! 4/30/2010

I just picked up my wedding dress and it looked like it was dragged across the floor and so did the dress bag that I left with it. The manager had told me that he would personally get all of the stains out, and not only was it not cleaned, but it looked worse! I think they had forgotten about it, and then they lied and told me that it had been cleaned. Please, please, please DO NOT go to this place unless you want to ruin your clothes. Pros: ZERO! Cons: They lie and don't actually clean clothes more

Definitely the best dry cleaner in Chicago 1/15/2010

Higher priced, but you get what you pay for. I have used Barry Regent for years now, and am always impressed with how well they maintain their quality. I just picked up some wool pants that had bad, crusty salt stains at the hem and they got it out 100%, using their aqua clean process. Excellent work. Whenever I have tried other cleaners for convenience, because I have to drive to Barry Regent, I always regret it. Pros: High quality, reliable. Cons: Higher priced. more

Possibly the worst dry cleaner experience I've ever had 10/31/2009

I wish I could give this place zero stars because that's the rating they truly deserve. In short, they destroyed not one, not two, but THREE pieces of my clothing. When I brought this to their attention, they were indignant and accepted zero responsibility, even accusing me of fabricating this story. If this review can prevent even one person from going there and having a similar experience, then great and if this overpriced hack job of a cleaners falls from the ""best in Chicago"" lists, well, even better. Pros: Zero, None, Nada Cons: Condenscending, Irresponsible, Overpriced to boot more

Thoughless, careless - I'm speechless 2/28/2009

Brought in a silk window panel (curtains) with two 3-inch horizontal tears and a hem that needed repair. They told me they could fix it. 10 days later I get a call saying, in fact, they couldn't fix it, the fabric was too delicate. Inconvenient for me but okay, at least (I thought), they're not going to ruin it. I go to pick it up, they bring it out unwrapped (as if I'm going to walk out with them over my arm; I had brought them in folded carefully in a big plastic bag) and a huge area of the drape, about 10 inches by 10 inches, is COMPLETELY SHREDDED. I ask for the manager, who is completely un-empathetic, totally nonplussed. ""The silk's very dry,"" he says blandly. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I didn't bring the drape in there expecting it to be ruined, I didn't bring it in there with the caveat I leave it there at my own risk and if it's ruined, well, so be it. He keeps repeating that the silk is dry. I get it. That's hardly the point. They not only offered no monetary recompense, but not even the slightest shred of an apology. I have never had such a shoddy experience like this with a drycleaner. There are cleaners everywhere; why choose one that behaves so indecently?I notice many others here who have also had incredibly BAD EXPERIENCES with Barry-Regent. Overpriced and Irresponsible Cleaners 11/19/2008

I brought my winter coats to BRC back in October. Both needed to be cleaned and one needed a new zipper. They told me no problem- a week and a half. I kept calling and calling- then after a MONTH- they still had not finished my coat. When I finally picked it up- it was $20 dollars MORE than orginally quoted, there were burn marks on both the interior cuffs and hood, and a few white powdery stains on the front that were not there before- and even after all of that they did not offer me any type of discount. I do not feel this company is trust worthy. I will never use them again or recommend them. They are extremely overpriced and not honest. BEWARE....... Cons: There were new stains on my coat that were not there when I dropped coat off. more

Spotty service 4/2/2008

Most of the time our clothes come back looking good. However, recently I have been fairly unhappy with their service. I went to pick up a bunch of sweaters that I had taken there and 3 of them went missing. They were all cashmere, 2 were Prada and 1 was Theory. Needless to say, these sweaters cost a small fortune. They were able to find out what happened a few days later, which was that they gave my sweaters to someone else! Luckily, a week later the person to whom my sweaters were given had returned them. A few days later, I took 5 pairs of brand new jeans to be shortened with the original hem. The seamstress said she wouldn't shorten 3 of them because it was to ""hard."" This really annoyed me because I had gotten this service done there before on jeans of the same exact type of hem. So, it wasn't that she couldn't do it, but that it was too hard for her and she didn't want to do it. I assumed they would do it because they had done it before and now I can't wear my very expensive jeans. Honestly, if I still had my sewing machine, I would be able to do this myself. I'm gonna find a different cleaners even though Barry Regent is a couple blocks from me. Cons: Difficult parking, spotty service more

They ruined my coat. Melted the buttons and tore the lining and will take no responsibility. The manager told me to take it the manufacturer. They will not provide and compensation for a jacket I can no longer wear. Please do not give them your business. more

Best Cleaners in Lincoln Park/Lakeview Area 12/14/2007

Very professional, efficient and attentive service. Someone had spilled some tea on my shearling coat. I took it over to the Barry Regent where they immediately went into action to insure that my coat would be worked on. The coat now is as good as new and I couldn't be happier. Pros: Consistent ---- high quality job Cons: parking is not always available -- it's near Belmont & Broadway -- dense area more

Wedding Dress Damaged before wedding! An Unbelievable Story! NOT RECOMMENDED! 9/25/2007

A week before our wedding, my wife dropped off her wedding dress at Barry Regent Cleaners to be steamed. The dress, an original design purchased at Silver Moon, is a 1930's slip-style dress with a beaded applique hip detail made from pieces of a 1920's era dress. A Barry Regent manager accepted the wedding dress and was instructed by my wife not to steam near or over the beaded applique hip detail of the dress. The manager assured my wife that he would personally take care of the dress and that her request would be no problem. Cons: They will damage your garment and then refuse to be responsible. more

Overpriced, terrible customer service - AVOID!!!! 9/5/2007

I took in my wedding dress to have some minor stains removed. I was told at the time that they may not be able to remove the stains, but I told them to give it a try. When I picked up the dress, there were MORE stains on the train of the dress, and they STILL charged me $125 for their labor! When I called to complain to the owner, he actually hung up on me! AVOID and tell everyone you know to avoid! Cons: Awful customer service, overpriced, rude! more

I gave this place a try once and told the owner he would never see another nickle from my me. I dropped off 10 shirts (2 weeks worth for me) they were done on time but that was all that was right with my experience. Pros: They accept all the cash in your pocket Cons: They offer coupons to get you in the door then do not honor them, bad business more
