Guacamole! 7/24/2006

For dinner, this place is great- its loud, energetic, and entertaining with fantastic food and drinks (50 kinds of margaritas and the best tequila selection in town). For the Friday Saturday late night crowd- no thank you. Let me explain: If you want a good meal and a fun time from open until 10 pm- then I would defiantly recommend it! But the late night bar crowd is less to be desired. Its a bunch of young kids who drink way too much- it gets old if youre not into the drink till you're sick seen. But I cant hold their late night draw against them- the dinner experience is too much fun! I love their guacamole- they make it right at the table for you! Thats cool! Pros: Guacamole, Tequila, Food Cons: Parking, Late Night Crowd more

Great Sunday Brunch 3/18/2006

We took the fam who was visiting from out of town for brunch. For $11 all-you-care-to-eat brunch, I'm not sure you can find a better value in the city. We got there early, and the food was really good. Fajitas (pork and tofu), waffles, eggs, fresh-made omlettes, sausage and biscuits, fruits, and plenty of sweets! The food was good-quality, all veggies and fruits were ripe, and nothing tasted 'out of the box'. Also, the $3 bloody mary was a good deal. We'll definately be back. Receipts had coupons for buy-one-get-one brunch buffets, so next time will be even better. Kids eat free, but I'd get there beforer noon, or there may be a wait. Pros: good selection, price, quality more

Food good, but service lacks 3/14/2006

I went on a Saturday evening. Busy and noisy. Food is great. Calamari is a must try, along with the steak for dinner. Our waiter was a space cadet and was always out there somewhere, but not on earth. He missed fired our meals so our app came out at the same time as our dinner. I was willing to forgive, but when I told him at the beginning we needed separate checks and he could not get it right that was it. When youre paying the money their asking for the service has to be better. I will give it one another try. Pros: Food, Drinks Cons: Service, Parking more

Just OK 2/19/2006

I went here for dinner with a group of people. The margaritas were delicious; however most of the drinks were a bit over priced. The food and service were just average. The tableside guacamole tasted more like deviled eggs than guacamole, and the fajitas were not the worst or the best that I have ever had. The whole experience was just OK. more

AWFUL service!!! 12/19/2005

The waitress was rude all night. She put down our tab without even asking us if we were ready for it. Then she screwed up the bill and charged someone elses bill to my credit card! The service is awful... Cons: rude waitstaff more

Jello Shots? 11/20/2005

Drinks are pricey but very good for a few cocktails before heading elsewhere. I'd suggest a margarita or mojito or one of the specialty drinks. I was SHOCKED but BA sells jello shots. I don't know if this is a usual thing but it's fun and unique so I thought I'd write it. This is not a place I'd like to spend an entire night out at but it's worth a visit if you're in the new Greek System Central, aka Uptown. Downtown is the old NE (pretty ghetto but cool spots), Uptown is the new DT (Frat boys, people trying too hard to be cool, albeit, there are a few good spots left), and NE is the new uptown (cool, unique, all walks of life...) Pros: drinks, jello shots Cons: price more

Brunch is fantastic 11/14/2005

Ive been here for dinner, happy hour, and brunch and have never been disappionted. You wouldn't think this place would have a good brunch but it is great. Price is good, they make whatever omletts you want, and they have a ton of other breakfast food, some with a tex-mex flavor to it like the sausage. Good tap beer selection. Dinner is crowded on Friday nights, so be prepared to wait. Did they get rid of the free chips and salsa though? Pros: Brunch, Outdoor seating, Prices Cons: busy more

best south-west food 8/19/2005

This is a great bar for all types of people, even kids, they eat for free all the time!!! The food and drinks are fantastic. One of the only bars that has dancing at night, Mon, Thurs, Fri, and Sat, I think. This is one of my favorite places to go. The food and service has improved over the past year. If you didn't like it the first time I suggest that you try it again. Pros: great food and margs, heated patio, Kids eat free more

**GO TO SUNDAY BREAKFAST BUFFET** 2/5/2005

Best Sunday Breakfast Buffet in Twin Cities area, and for only $10.95 it is also the best deal in town. You will NOT be dissapointed. Pros: Inexpensive, Sunday Buffet, Service more

Fajitas 8/2/2004

Great for after movie chats and drinks. I love the BBQ chicken pizza- tasty combination of chicken and beans. We always get the tableside guac, delicious food with a show to boot. I enjoy the chicken fajitas, surely not the same as everyone else. More original and tasty sides and moist chicken. The deserts are great too, especially the Ancho Diablo Cake. The drinks are pricy, but worth it. I love the mojito and the sunburned seniorita. Pros: great drinks, fresh food, unique flare more

Great Food, Great Service 8/2/2003

I went to Bar Abilene last night with my husband and a couple friends for a birthday and was blown away. The service was exceptional and the food was superb. Luke did an exceptional job guiding us through the menu and intruduced us to the world of tequilla. We will be back!!! Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Service Cons: Parking more

Lousiest service ever... 5/4/2003

Before a matinee movie at the Lagoon, we stopped by for Sunday brunch. We got our drinks and that's the last we saw of the waitress. We had to ask at the hostess stand for our check so we wouldn't miss the start of our movie. As we hurried next door to the theater we saw our waitress outside smoking. It's McDonalds next time we go to the 'Goon. Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Sports Bar Abilene? 4/23/2003

I had been to Bar Abilene before for happy hour and appetizers. I'd liked the tequilla flights, the excruciatingly overpriced guacamole and the tastey potato flautas. But this time we went for dinner and the place was having a weird identity crisis combined with below par food and sub service. This was on a Sunday evening and very slow. The walls were covered with western motif and sports crap. a longhorn with a basketball on it's head and a NCAA bracket poster? This was during march maddness, but come on. The flautas were good, when they came AFTER our entrees. The pork loin was overcooked and underspiced and Chipotle makes a 10x better burrito. Our server was unconcered with the fact she forgot our app and drinks. If the food tasted as good as the hickory scented air, i might consider coming back. more

Round 'em up 3/14/2003

The drinks can't be beaten, the food is beautiful and creative and the service is great. Sure, it is trendy, loud and crowded, but that is why I go. Quieter times can be found at non-happy hour times and in the dining room (as opposed to the bar/lounge). The waitstaff is very friendly--they comped us an appetizer simply for being there for a few hours, and on a different occasion the chef, Tom Gladbach, comped us an entree for sending him a hello message after we had taken a cooking class with him. Pros: great food, great drinks/tequila, unique Cons: drink prices, crowded more

The smoked tomato salsa is to die for. 1/20/2003

I don't care what that docs office upstairs says. Those smoked tomatos are wonderful and that aroma pulls me in even more than the woodroasting smell from the restaurant down the street. The Chicken nachos - simple and perfect. And once I saw Paul Wellstone there having dinner with his wife and and some friends. Can't get a better review than that. Pros: Food, Ambiance Cons: Prices, parking more

I don't know if it's worth it 1/17/2003

The food is great, service is pretty good, the drinks are well mixed... but it all comes at a price. It's very expensive. Maybe when i'm rich i'll be a regular, but i don't know if the prices are worth it for the average Joe. Pros: Food rules!, Service rocks Cons: Drinks are pricey, Food is pricey more

My favorite MPLS bar 1/17/2003

Great waitstaff. If you're not into elbow-to-elbow crowds, avoid their 'hospitality nites' when the service industry drinks cheaply...Mondays, I believe. Great place to sit out on the patio in warmer weather. Atmosphere = spicey in the summer & cozy in the winter. GREAT BLOODYS!! Must try: guac dip, even if you think you hate avocados. This place is a great place to go for a laid-back atmosphere when you're tired of every other trendy joint in the area - still enough of a fun crowd to keep it entertaining. Pros: bloody marys, fun weeknite bar, laid-back atmosphere Cons: hospitality nights, needmore 'theme'Music more

slowfast!!!! 11/4/2002

The dips are delectable the Margaritas are mouth teasing and the atmosphere is slowfast!!!! more

Extremely dissapointed 10/18/2002

I went here with my sisters for the first time the other night. The place was dead but somehow the service managed to be slow. We were also extremely dissapointed with the food. The fajitas were bland and the chips were way too salty. The margaritas were good but way overpriced. I will not be returning.... Pros: Good ambience, Yummy margaritas Cons: Overpriced food, Poor service more
