Wonderful as always!! 10/27/2006

I've been a fan of 94 Stewart since shortly after they opened, and have eaten here many times. My favorite thing to do is sit at the food bar and look into the kitchen, although those seats were all taken on the most recent visit. Lindsey has a wonderful knowledge and enthusiasm for wine, and is happy to share both tastes and knowledge if you ask. Don't go here for fast food or on a tight time line, while they will be happy to accomodate you, it would be a wasted experience. Plan to relax and enjoy, and they will take care of the details. Wine is good, food is great, and Celinda always creates interesting and tasty desserts. You might want to look at the dessert options first so that you can plan your meal. I always send out of town guests here and they are invariable happy. I like to go on a non weekend night so that things aren't quite as busy...I would bet the one reviewer who was not happy probably came in on a Friday night in the midst of the dinner rush a time best avoided. Pros: Great food, very personal service, excellent wine list Cons: Not for those in a big hurry more

A place that really cares 10/25/2006

Even a place this great can have a few off nights. I continue to go back for not only the great food and service I receive consistently, but the fact the staff is like a family (many of them are part of the same family) means they really care and show it. They take every comment positive and negative and grow from them. I've seen them in action many times. As a regular counter goer I've spoken with the chef/owner(Celinda Norton) and sous chef (Jef Hagen, another family member) numerous times. If something is not right the chef will get involved. So if there is something not to your liking, let her know (don't be a coward and post it days later, when they can't do a thing about it). I know I'm sure I've been one of those people who has hogged Lindsey's attention while she spouts her wine knowledge. I'll apologize now for making your service a little slower and maybe your check taking an extra minute to arrive. It was me! I did it! I was so interested in the great offerings of the night I couldn't resist. Oh, on that note don't miss the brown bag, great chance to try something you may never even thought of. Pair it up with a little cheese and you can't go wrong for a great start or late afternoon snack. If your lucky maybe Nic (the cheese steward) will be in the house when you stop by and you can take up as much of his time as you need while he tells you all about the great selections he has brought in this week. Don't worry he doesn't just limit himself to the local selections. I've had the chance to try some amazing things from all over the world I have yet to find at even some of the top cheese shops in town. Pros: Staff that really cares! Cons: Sometimes the staff can get busy, don't worry they haven't forgotten you. more

Worst Customer Service 10/22/2006

I researched before I took my boyfriend to this place for his birtday and had great expectations. For a place of fine dining, the food was not all that good, and the service was horrible. It really ruined our entire dinner. The ""avocado appetizer"" was not all that good and why was there a 15 minute break between the time the server took our plates and a new dish arrived for each of the 2 appetizers and the entree we ordered, not even mentioning the fact that it took equal time for our drinks to arrive as the first appetizer? Once our Roman lettuce appetizer arrived she asked us if we wanted some fresh ground pepper in which we replied yes, and then she doesnt bring it at all? Why even ask? Once we got our check (after I had to ask a different server filling our water), I waited watching our server talk to another table for 20 minutes and then another 10 minutes passed until I got up to hand the check to some other person behind the bar. I think he was the owner. I made a remark about how I've been waiting for the check to be processed and the owner didn't even say anything and didn't even care that we were very unhappy. Over all the service at this place was extremely bad and the food was mediocre. On our way out the server didn't even glance at our direction even though she was near our table. My boyfriend informed me later that our server was the owner of the restaurants daughter. Poor service must run in the family. May have been worth maybe half the money I spent at this place. Cons: Bad Customer Service, Overrated Mediocre Food more

Our New Favorite! 10/21/2006

We have had 2 fabulous dinners here - the service, wine, and food are all exceptional. It had been 3 months since our first visit, and the sommelier Lindsey remembered us, what we ate, and what wines we liked. Never have we had such personalized, warm, knowledgeable service (and we dine out a LOT). Both of our visits were true dining experiences... not rushed, very personal (the service was not poor - we enjoyed the time between courses to try different wine samples)! Lindsey knows her stuff... she poured multiple ""brown bag"" tastes for us, allowing us to try and guess the varietals. Not only were the wines delicious and unique, it made our meal fun and educational. The well rounded wine list is now over 6 pages and offers something for every palate and budget. The food is creative and delicious, reasonably priced, and the portions are very ample. This has become our favorite new restaurant! Pros: Warm, personalized service; Exceptional wine list more

Go for the food (great!), not the service (chaotic) 10/13/2006

The food here was excellent. From the appetizers to desserts, everything was tasty, creatively prepared & perfectly cooked. The service however... We had the wine sommelier for our waitress. While she was friendly & energetic, she's a pretty bad waitress. We waited 5-10 mins before she ever came to the table, and then were done with cocktails before she ever came back to see if we were ready to order. (which left us without drink or food for a period of time) Since she was the sommelier, i figured maybe she was filling in for someone tonight and probably was better at her ""real"" job (the wines). Ah, but not to be so. Thankfully i know a little bit about wines, at least enough to get a decent bottle. I mentioned what I was looking for in terms of taste, etc and asked for her recommendations. She said ""let me go look and bring a couple recommendations"" (never asking my price range). This was when we ordered our apps and meal. Our main course was on the table before she ever came back with the wine (after i flagged her down 2 times). Her descriptions of the wine were nothing more than ""this is made in the classic Cab style"". Told me one of the 3 she had was her absolute favorite. I decided to pass on that given that she really wasn't offering me much, and chose a vineyard/varietal i was sure would please. She opened the bottle right there and poured (it was good) Thankfully i made my own choice, b/c she came back 5 mins later and said ""oh, i had the wrong bottle for that one i told you I loved"" (she was completely clueless). And just so you don't think it was us - the people at the next table had to cancel their main courses b/c they were late for a show and she (the waitress/sommelier) had forgotten to put the order in. They had been their 90 mins with only drinks & appetizers. She was profusely apologizing to them - they took it in stride thankfully, appeared to be ""regulars"" Pros: Fabulous Food Cons: Chaotic service (at lease if you get the sommelier as your waitress) more

best restaurant 9/5/2006

I took my boyfriend to 94 Stewart for his B-day recently since neither one of us had been there and the reviews were all highly recommending it. From the street it looks a bit non-descript but step inside and it's a quaint intimate setting with red velvet drapes separating the seating areas to add a bit of drama -- it is still a casual seattle scene, not pretentious. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to selecting menu items. We shared the Fried Avocado appetizer....this was so tasty and amazing. My boyfriend had the Pork Loin which he loved and I had a Sea Scallop dish with coconut rice and cilantro that was out of this world -- so many enjoyable flavors that I still to this day think about that dish...although it looks like they've changed their menu and don't have the item any longer :(. My boyfriend loved this place and he can sometimes be a bit of a critic so that says a lot !! We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience...the food, service and atmosphere were all exceptional and we will definitely go back!! more

Good location, food dissapointng 7/19/2006

This is in the old Garlic Tree location- they did a nice job redoing the decor. I took my out of town cousins here so they could get the feel for the Pike Market atmosphere. The food was OK, nothing to write home about. I had the white salmon from Neah Bay, which was an unusual offering. There is not a lot of variety on the menu, either. Good location in the market, though, so they should do well. more

the best! 7/17/2006

Go to 94 Stewart for good food, exceptional service, creative menus, and to feel like a star! I first went to 94 Stewart for my birthday dinner, which to my great fortune fell on a Tuesday night so we got to take advantage of their Capitan's Dinner. We had the wine steward as our waitress, and she took excellent care of us, and made me feel very celebrated! I have been back numerous times and highly recommend it to my friends. It's a great place for a date or celebration. The heavy curtains create intimate spaces and set the mood for any occasion. Don't forget to check out the desserts-- original creations by the chef that are sure to make you smile! Pros: excellent food, creative menu, exceptional service Cons: parking can be hard more

94 Stewart 6/27/2006

I have searched fine restaurants from San Francisco to Victoria and found this place called 94 Stewart in the Pike Street area. What a find! The place was packed and they still got us in! The food, wine, and service was a ten. And on the way out the owner asked us how everything was and invited us back! Very friendly and warm. Great for a first date, casual or lusting for great food and service. Thanks Andy!\r Captain Scott and Paulette Pros: The very best in food, service, knowledge of the culinary arts and atmosphere. more

94 Stewart has it all! 6/25/2006

My wife and I were on vacation in Seattle and had recently read the July issue of Food and Wine Magazine which included a rating of the best new restaurant wine lists that featured 94 Stewart.\r Originally drawn by the article we were fortunate to find the restaurant was so much more!\r Lindsey Norton, the wine steward, was more than worth the price of admission because of her personal flair, knowledge and warmth!\r Between courses of wonderful food that Chef Celinda Norton provided - a savory and chunky Dungeness bisque, a ""Crabby"", a Dungeness Crab Salad and a list of cheeses that were exotic and samples of wines Lindsey was offering - Lindsey would move from table to table where winery representatives would try to seduce her with their wines to make her list.\r Kim, ""Assistant/Host"", told us when we arrived and mentioned the article that she had been trying to get a copy of Food and Wine and by the time we were through our late lunch she had secured one.\r It was a wonderful, relaxing and fitting cap to our visit to Seattle and all of the wonderful Washington State wines and seafood it has to offer! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Great food and outstanding service 6/24/2006

We recently had dinner at 94 Stewart and are planning a return visit in July. The food was exceptional and the Lemon Tart dessert the best I have ever had. The menu variety provides ample selection and the wines are excellent and reasonably priced.\r \r To my mind it is definitely the best restaurant in Seattle.\r \r Murv Sears, Port Angeles, WA more

What a great find! 5/20/2006

I tour with the musical, ""Chicago"", so we get to sample food from around the world. A castmate and I had such a wonderful lunch, that I had to join city search to write the review for it. We had a 'tipsy crab bisque', made with white wine and cognac, salmon fish and chips, which was made in a tempura batter, and the dungeness crab three cheese maccaroni. The apple cobbler made with Grand Marnier was perfection. Patronize these folks! You won't be disappointed, and tell 'em 'Amos' sent ya! Pros: welcoming, delicious, value more

Best Overall 5/8/2006

94 Stewart is such an oasis. I have dined several times over the last few months and every time the incredible staff gives new meaning to perfect. These people really care and it shows. Chef Celinda's menus are so intriquing I just wish I could eat more. The food is nothing short of amazing; always perfectly executed and presented with artistic integrity. The wine list! My word, such incredible choices and Lindsey is so fun to chat with. She really knows her wines and always recommends something fabulous that pairs perfectly with my dinner. This is a restaurant that knows what service is, also. No matter if it's a laid back Sunday night or a full house Saturday night, the service is not only professional, knowledgeable and right on, it's fun. My hat's off to the staff of 94 Stewart. You're one in a million! Pros: food, service, ambience more

You made us heros 3/2/2006

Thank you, 94 Stewart. I recently brought in some very hard to please out of town guests and you made us heros. The food was superb, like every time we visit. Wine pairings were amazing. Your staff made such an impression on our guests, they gushed all the way home and believe me, this is a tremendous feat! We cant thank you enough for how welcome you always make us feel every single time we visit. more

One of Seattle's Best Restaurants 3/1/2006

What a surprise this place was! Contrary to other reviews, I found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The service was impeccable but not intrusive. Cheese Lovers: There's a cheese menu and a cheese ""guru"" who happily came to our table and offered solid reccommendations. I had a bowl of crab soup (can't recall the exact name) and it was simply great. The baked oysters-- served au gratin style--was one of the best dishes I've ever had, anywhere, period. The wine list was awesome and offered several quality middle or lower-priced choices. The desert selection was also incredible and our server said each item was made from scratch by the chef that day. We tried two and I believe him. In my opinion this is one of Seattle's best restaurants, and a perfect addition to the market area. Even if you are in doubt, check it out. Pros: service, menu, atmosphere more

Bad Night Out 2/25/2006

For my birthday I researched restaurants and based on the reviews I've read, I chose 94 Stewart. Upon arriving, we were seated and given menus. I did not see my waiter for approximately 25 minutes and finally had to flag down another staff person to please find my waiter. When he finally did reach my table he informed me that he had completely forgotten about us. Kind of hard to do with only three other tables of people in the restaurant. Not a good start. An apology was never offered. I had the New York steak which had a sauce that was heavy on the salt, the dessert was also very weak. My wife did have a pasta dish and that was good. Overall, I could not recommend this restaurant when there are so many great restaurants in Seattle. Pros: Wine list Cons: Poor Service more

Warm, Whitty and Whimsical 2/19/2006

I can not even tell you how much I just love 94 Stewart Resturant. Never have I had a bad meal, and the service is always genuine. My favorite item at lunch is the Crabby Sandwich, and if you ever go you just have to try the chowder. Pros: friendly, fun Cons: um, hello! NONE! more
