Wet Spot has a lot of variety and their fish are generally healthy when you purchase them. The majority of the staff is friendly, and we had one woman in particular who told us that she did not know the type of fish we were purchasing very well, and called one of the staff members who did for information. more

Best selection of FRESHWATER fish I had ever seen.....""and I have been around a while"" They are a little understaffed so come in when you can take your time and view the selection. The crew is always happy to answer any question you may have and are great at reccomendations. I live in Beaverton and usually shop at World of wet Pets but found this was worth my commute. more

Re: Best fish at the best prices 11/3/2011

They have the best healthy fish at the best prices. We always shop there and have never been steered wrong. I can't believe someone actually recommended Wal-Mart to get fish at! Have you been in there lately?? True hobbyists know where to go and it is not Wal-Mart. And not to mention the supporting of small local businesses. more

PURPOSELY GIVEN WRONG INFORMATION! 4/22/2011

We recently set up a 55 gal tank since my husband has had over 5 years professional experience with fish, he decided it was time to have a new tank at our new house. We went to the Wet Spot since it was our local neighborhood fish store and started stocking our community tank. I am writing this to let everyone know not only do they have terrible service but they will out right lie to you regarding problems with your tank. We have bought alot of fish from them and have had more than a few die, keep in mind this is only in a 6 week period, so we had our water tested by them to get them to get them to replace one of the fish. Well forget that, they told us our tank was alkaline and then proceeded to have us buy crushed coral to fix it. My husband bought the coral and went home and was just about to put it in our tank when he had second thoughts because did not make sense to his fish experience, so he called kayes and guess what he was exactly right!!!! If we would have put the coral in our tank it would have killed everything we had already purchased, which at this point exceeds $200.00 in fish alone. We were informed our tank was exactly right. So I warn everyone please have the information given to you by the Wet Spot staff checked, it is probably wrong. We were almost victims of the oldest pet store scam, causing us to have problems where there isnt any and having to spend alot of money on products from them trying to fix a problem they intentionally caused. So watch out for the so-called knowledgeable staff at the Wet Spot. more

Great selection doesn't make up for TERRIBLE service. 1/25/2011

The advantage of patronizing your local fish store is that they often give you with the knowledge and service that the big box retailers and online shippers don't provide. Don't expect that at The Wet Spot. I visited there my third time tonight and it will be my last. While their selection of Freshwater species is impressive, their prices are near the high end for a boutique store and you will find better service at a Wal-Mart fish aisle. more

Twice there, not great. 11/9/2010

First time there (new tank, first timer) I purchased 6 Tiger Barbs. I got 6 because the deal on the tank said 6 for $9.00. I looked at my reciept when I got home and realized I paid full price for each ($12), but didn't make a fuss over $3.00. more

A very cool place for fish lovers. This place is amazing. It has the widest variety of aquarium fish and a very helpful staff on hand. My husband drags me in there whenever we're in the area...it's like he's a kid in a candy store. I am always very impressed with the selection of fish. I recommend you go there if you too are particular about your aquarium. more

THE go to guys for help with your fishy stuff... 9/1/2010

Can anyone ever say anything bad about this place??? Ok here it is: they?re NOT 24 hours ? that sucks. :( I?d LOVE to be able to call on these guys at all hours of the day when I need something! They know EVERYTHING! more

One Stop Fish Shopping! 8/20/2010

This place seems to have everything for your at home aquarium needs. My husband and I went to check it out to see if we could find fish other than the pet store norm and were pleasantly suprised at their selection and knowledgable staff. We'll definitely keep going here for our supplies and fish needs. more

Knowledgeable Staff Decent Prices 5/10/2010

Excellent store. The staff was very knowledgeable about the subjects I was asking about. I had done some pre-research on the internet and all the facts being told to me by the staff were dead on with what I was reading earlier in the day. This store is also THE place to go for Cichlids - the selection is unmatched compared to all the fish stores I have been to in various states. This is also an Excellent store if you are looking into going with a Live Plant tank. Great selection of plants, lights, fertilizers and CO2 systems. I highly recommend this aquarium shop to anyone that currently has one or is thinking about getting one!! Pros: great selection, pricing and service Cons: I spent 2 hours oogling fish tanks :) more

Horrible Customer Service!!!! 1/24/2010

The prices are outrageous and the employees lie about their return policy and misinform customers. I was told it was ok to keep an African Dwarf Frog in a 1/2 gallon tank with no heater or filtration AND an open top. Of course, my frog hated it and went into shock because of the temperature change. Then he quit eating. Upon doing some research, I found that ADF's can NOT survive in that amount of water. Especially if the temperature is too low. Plus, they can jump out of an uncovered tank. I hate this place. I've had horrible experience after horrible experience here, and they aren't willing to take responsibility for anything. They'll advise you to buy products you don't need and then refuse to take them back and refund your money. THIS PLACE SUCKS. I would check out Pets on Broadway instead. They have a great staff and great prices. Pros: None. Cons: Overpriced. Rude and misinformative employees. more

Pretty but dangerous 1/2/2010

I used to love Wet Spot. As I have had fish for 50 years, I love a good fish store. However now I can not buy anything for the Wet Spot. why? Because the tanks are infested with Black Brush Algae. This is stuff will overtake your tank and make it look like it belongs in the black lagoon. It is beyond my comprehension why they don't do something to get rid of it. It can be done with a lot of work and It seems to me if they care for the customers they wouldn't want to spread the algae problem to the customers tanks. This stuff can be spread due to the slightest amount in the water or even travel in to your tank in your fishes stomach. It's too bad that the owner cares more about his bank account than his customers care. Pros: Large Selection Cons: Service and Killer Algae more

Why I will never shop The Wet Spot again. 12/23/2009

I have kept fish for several years ,and never had the problems that I had until I brought home fish from here. Two times now I have had to spend more than I would at once to restart a community due to a manky fish bought from there. The last straw and why I'm writing this is due to the 3 loaches that wiped out my Platy tank. Four years and 3 tank upgrades I've had them, all gone. I went back and talked to the cashier, and when she and a co-worker where done talking about an upcoming show (seriously?) I was told that it was something I done and was given a ""Too bad that sucks"". On other visits I have had bad times as well. Bri @ Pets on Broadway is an Aquatic Goddess and is super friendly to boot. Just like after sex I will avoid The Wet Spot. Pros: big selection Cons: Sick fish, the staff more

My favorite fish place 11/19/2009

I've fairly new to keeping fish (1 year now) but Wet Spot is my go-to-place. They have a pretty wide range of fish and accessories. The staff are knowledgable.....but lets just say that there's some that are even more knowledgable than others. Both combined to ensure that the fish you're buying are nice and healthy (they have a return policy too). About the only downside is that the place is incredibly busy. If you're looking for advice/fish it's now unknown to wait 20-30 minutes to get help. Otherwise it's a great store. Pros: Experienced staff, great selection, decent prices Cons: On a weekend it gets busy and is hard to get served more

best f'ing store in the world 3/3/2009

Oh where do i start, with the best selection of freshwater fish in the northwest, possibly in the world, having awesome pieces of wood and rocks to put in your tanks, great prices on captive and wild caught fish also tanks and stands. the place has everything. the customer service is great, but if you want to go in on the weekends, try being a little patient. from what ive seen, they get to everyone as quickly as possible, but some times they can be a little understaffed. so put on that smile and wait patiently, let me tell you its worth the wait. i love andrea, abby, amanda, garrett, and pretty much everyone from there staff. if i have a question, they have the answer, if not they'll find it for me. compared to world of wet pets, kays and the place around the corner, the wet spot is the OG of the fish industry. so keep it real and try out the wet spot. ASK QUESTIONS AND IF YOU BUY FISH, FOR GOD'S SAKE, GIVE THEM A GOOD HOME. fish have feelings, their not just decorations, their living creatures. go vegan. Pros: everything Cons: its hot more

Don't wear your coat 2/20/2009

Whew it's warm inside. They do have a great rock and wood and nice looking plant selection. Their fish can be a bit pricey to other fish stores. They have like 2 helpful employess that actually seem like they want to help you. Every other employee seems to avoid you like the plague. They do test your water and help with stuff you need. All around pretty good store. More expensive than others. more

great customer service, best possible fish store 9/22/2008

Wet Spot Tropical Fish is the best place to go for fish in Portland. the customer service is great and everything is a great deal! if I could go anywhere for fish it would be the Wet Spot. Pros: nice employes Cons: expensive fish more

AWESOME fish, not so awesome employees 6/5/2008

I've been coming to the wetspot for many years. I LOVE the selection. The fish are always healthy and reasonably priced. The tanks are well kept too. I'm disappointed in the decreasing selection of plants here. I'm also HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED with the lack of customer service. A few years ago, the staff would at least sort of engage customers. Now, the staff seems apathetic. They are not friendly. They do not greet you. They rarely smile. If the fish weren't so great, I would go somewhere else. more

Excelent Fish! Excelent Plants! Excelent Enviornment! So why only 4/5 ????? 2/19/2008

here are three places, (and the only ones might I add) that are local to me.) they are my only opportunity to buy fish. mind you, i have 4 aquariums, a 4 foot long cornsnake (who thinks hes a dog) a 24-26"" bearded dragon, and a racoon. (i own the racoon legally if your wondering) i also have two dogs and 3 parakeets. Pros: Awesome Selection, Great Quality, Wonderous Enviornment!! Cons: A little spendy pricing, but not bad. snobby and unappealing customer service more

Great Fish Selection 12/12/2007

Back when I first got started on fish they helped me big time. They took the time to explain everything to me and helped me through it all. And when I did have a problem it didn't feel like I made a huge mistake and the world was going to end because something was wrong with my tank. (I had a few sales people at different pet store make me feel like I was purposfully doing things wrong and that I was going to murder all my fish.) They have a HUGE selection of fish!! I felt like a kid in a candy store. The people are real nice and helpfull. Pros: Wide Selection, Know what they're doing Cons: a little pricey at times more
